India’s participation in the High-Level Conference on ‘Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza’ in Amman, Jordan, was represented by Muktesh Pardeshi, the Secretary of the Consular Passport and Visa Division and Overseas Indian Affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs. Pardeshi emphasized India’s continuous humanitarian, capacity building, and developmental efforts at the conference, co-hosted by King Abdullah of Jordan. India’s support for Palestine has amounted to nearly USD 120 million, with an additional USD 2.5 million pledged for relief efforts through UNRWA.
The conflict in Gaza escalated following a terror attack by Hamas on Israel, resulting in significant casualties and civilian deaths. Israel responded with military operations aimed at Hamas in Gaza, leading to widespread humanitarian concerns, with organizations like the United Nations and WHO terming the situation a “humanitarian catastrophe.”
Additionally, India participated in the Quad Maritime Security Working Group meeting in Sydney, represented by MEA Secretary (ER) Dammu Ravi. The Quad, comprising Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, focuses on maintaining an open, stable, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, addressing various challenges including health security, climate change, and maritime security.
