Mindy Kaling, the Indian American actor, writer, and comedian, returns to Hulu with a fresh single-camera comedy titled ‘Murray Hill,’ marking her comeback six and a half years post the conclusion of ‘The Mindy Project’ on the platform. Under an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV, Kaling’s latest project gained traction at the beginning of the year, attracting multiple buyers amidst a competitive landscape. Ultimately, Hulu secured the series with a script-to-series commitment, highlighting the high demand for Kaling’s creative endeavors.
Scripted by Kaling herself, ‘Murray Hill’ delves into the lives of five ambitious twenty-somethings consumed by their professional aspirations, as they navigate the pursuit of success and, if time permits, personal fulfillment in the upscale Manhattan neighborhood of Murray Hill. Kaling serves as an executive producer through her production company, Kaling International, in collaboration with Warner Bros. TV and Howard Klein’s 3 Arts Entertainment, with Jessica Kumai Scott co-executive producing.
Expressing her enthusiasm on Facebook, Kaling shared her excitement about crafting a narrative centered on young individuals in one of the world’s most glamorous locales. The series marks a reunion between Kaling and Hulu, which previously rescued ‘The Mindy Project’ after its cancellation by Fox, propelling it into three additional seasons as a Hulu original. ‘The Mindy Project’ had established itself as a staple on Hulu, contributing to the platform’s burgeoning original content slate under the stewardship of Craig Erwich, now President of Disney Television Group.
Erwich expressed Hulu’s enduring admiration for Kaling’s work, emphasizing the organic continuation of their partnership with the pickup of ‘Murray Hill.’ Following the success of ‘The Mindy Project,’ Kaling ventured into co-creating and co-developing acclaimed series like ‘Never Have I Ever’ for Netflix and ‘The Sex Lives of College Girls’ and ‘Velma’ for HBO Max. ‘Murray Hill’ represents a significant milestone as Kaling’s maiden solo creation since her breakout series, ‘The Mindy Project.’
