In her presentation of the interim budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a significant positive transformation in the Indian economy over the past decade, with an emphasis on comprehensive progress guided by the vision of “Together for All, Development for All, and Trust for All”.
Despite challenges posed by the once-in-a-century pandemic, Sitharaman noted the country’s successful stride towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). She addressed concerns about food security by announcing free ration provision for 800 million people, alleviating worries.
Sitharaman highlighted the impact of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), emphasizing increased funds for the PM Garib Kalyan Yojana due to savings through DBT channels. She underscored the importance of focusing on four major pillars: the poor, women, youth, and farmers.
In the realm of skill development, Sitharaman celebrated the success of the Skill India Mission, which has empowered and employed 140 million youth. The Finance Minister depicted the government’s administration under Prime Minister Modi as “secularism in action” and highlighted achievements in providing housing, water, and cooking gas for all households.
Financial inclusion and empowerment were emphasized with the extension of 340 million Mudra Yojana loans to women entrepreneurs. Sitharaman concluded her budget presentation on a positive note, signaling the government’s determination to foster inclusive growth and development.
As the nation navigates uncertainties and builds towards the future, the budget reflects a commitment to the welfare and progress of all citizens. Budget 2024 is expected to undergo thorough scrutiny and debates in Parliament as stakeholders assess its potential impact on the nation’s economic trajectory.
