Krystle Kaul, a Virginia-based entrepreneur and former high-ranking government official at the Department of Defense (DoD), recently wrapped up the first quarter of her congressional campaign with an impressive fundraising total of $567,000. This financial achievement stands as the highest among all candidates in the race, according to a statement from her campaign.
Despite initial skepticism about a first-time candidate competing with career politicians, Kaul remains undeterred. She expressed determination, stating, “I’ve been told ‘you can’t do that’ many times in life – it didn’t stop me then – and it certainly won’t now. Most Virginians are tired of career politicians, and that’s why I’m running.”
Kaul’s congressional campaign revolves around key issues such as bolstering national and local safety, advocating for women’s reproductive rights, supporting senior citizens’ rights, and promoting economic growth in Virginia. Emphasizing her unique perspective from a career in public service and as a defense technology small business owner, she believes her skills will bring immediate results for the district.
In addition to her role as a small business owner, Kaul serves as a remote teacher at MIT. Her extensive government experience includes holding the highest civilian rank at the DoD as a Director (GS-15) at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency. She also served at US Central Command under Secretary Austin on the ISIS Crisis Cell during a time of war through Leidos.
Krystle Kaul holds a bachelor’s degree from American University, a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and pursued a Ph.D. in political science from Brown University.
