Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys, remains optimistic about the growth of India’s Information Technology (IT) industry, projecting it to reach US$ 350 billion by 2030 despite global economic challenges. Speaking at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, he highlighted the industry’s consistent 9% growth last year, emphasizing its resilience as a high-growth sector.
In the face of a slowing global economy, Gopalakrishnan anticipates sustained growth for the Indian IT industry in the medium to long term. He underscored the transformative impact of emerging technologies like ChatGPT and generative Artificial Intelligence (AI), citing ChatGPT’s rapid ascent since its introduction in November 2022.
Acknowledging the need for proactive interventions with the introduction of widely applicable technologies, Gopalakrishnan emphasized the dynamic changes across sectors, industries, and applications. Notably, the unique aspect of conversing with AI systems through a chat interface was highlighted.
Advocating for ongoing dialogues between the government and industries to explore opportunities and strategize for future innovations, Gopalakrishnan stressed the significance of Karnataka, contributing 40% to the country’s IT services industry. He urged the state to engage in discussions, debates, and strategic planning to maintain its leadership position in the long run.
