Vivek Chilukuri, a distinguished Indian American policy expert, has assumed the role of Senior Fellow and Director of the Technology and National Security Program at the Center for New American Security (CNAS). With over six years of experience on Capitol Hill and prior service in the State Department, Chilukuri brings a wealth of expertise to this position.
During his tenure on Capitol Hill, Chilukuri served in various key roles for Senator Michael Bennet, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. His positions included Senior Policy Advisor for Technology and Democracy, Deputy Chief of Staff, Legislative Director, and Chief Speechwriter. Notably, Chilukuri played an instrumental role in crafting legislative measures aimed at bolstering America’s technology competitiveness, fostering responsible governance for digital platforms, and expanding access to high-speed broadband through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
In addition to his time on Capitol Hill, Chilukuri’s background includes service at the Department of State, where he worked as a Policy Advisor to the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights. His experience also extends to the National Democratic Institute, where he served as a Program Officer on the Middle East and North Africa team.
CNAS’s Technology and National Security program, led by Chilukuri, is dedicated to addressing policy challenges associated with emerging technologies. This program conducts cutting-edge research on topics such as artificial intelligence, technology strategy, biotechnology, defense technology, critical digital technology, and digital freedom. It emphasizes the importance of bringing together technology and policy communities to collaboratively develop solutions for the challenges posed by these emerging technologies. Under Chilukuri’s leadership, CNAS aims to play a crucial role in sustaining U.S. technology leadership and advancing bipartisan policies in this field.
