On the 11th day of the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, India secured gold in the compound archery mixed team final. Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravis Ojas Deotale’s outstanding performance not only earned India the gold but also surpassed their previous best Asiad medal tally. Their current tally stands at 81, a significant improvement from their 2018 Jakarta record of 70 medals. Additionally, India clinched bronze in the 35km race walk mixed team final. In boxing, Lovlina Borgohain secured silver in the women’s 75 kg category, while Parveen settled for bronze in the women’s 57kg boxing semifinal. Sunil Kumar also secured a bronze in men’s Greco-Roman 87Kg wrestling by defeating Kyrgyzstan’s Atabek Azisbekov with a score of 2-1.
Harmilan Bains secured her second silver medal at the event, clocking 2:03.75 to finish second in the women’s 800m finals. She had secured a silver in the women’s 1500m race earlier in the week. Avinash Sable contributed another silver to India’s medal tally by securing second place in the men’s 5000m final, following his victory in the men’s 3000m steeplechase event.
The Indian women’s 4x400m relay team clinched silver in a closely contested race against Bahrain, while the men’s team secured gold in the 4x400m relay. In the men’s javelin throw final, Neeraj Chopra won the gold, with Kishore Kumar Jena earning the silver.
In squash, Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu secured at least a silver by defeating Hong Kong’s Ka Yi Lee and Chi Him Wong in the mixed doubles semifinal. However, an all-Indian squash mixed doubles final was prevented as Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh lost to Malaysia’s Aifa Binti and Mohammad Syafiq in the other semifinal, settling for bronze. Saurav Ghosal delivered an impressive performance in the men’s singles squash semifinals, winning in straight games against Hong Kong’s Leung C.H.H.
