According to inside sources, Apple is planning to release the India-made iPhone 15 on the first day of global sales in India and other areas, marking a significant shift in their manufacturing and sales strategy. While most of the iPhone 15s are still made in China, this is the first time a gadget from the latest generation will be produced in India and sold on the first day of sales. The move highlights India’s growing industrial power and demonstrates Apple’s commitment to narrowing the gap between its India operations and its main manufacturing bases in China.
Apple started producing the iPhone 15 last month at supplier Foxconn Technology Group’s factory in southern Tamil Nadu state. The plan to release the phone on the first day of sales in India, expected to be followed by other areas in a few days or weeks, is a significant pivot from Apple’s previous strategy of marketing primarily newly released products made in China. The timing of the release is in line with Apple’s usual practice of unveiling new products at a gala event in the United States before sales start about ten days later.
Before the iPhone 14, less than a quarter of Apple’s total output was produced in India, and its production lagged behind China’s by six to nine months. However, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s financial incentives to increase domestic manufacturing and Apple’s desire to move outside of China amid the US-China trade war, India has become a crucial component of Apple’s effort to diversify.
The iPhone 15 is expected to feature major improvements in camera technology across the board and a better 3-nanometer processor in the Pro models. The new lineup is crucial to revive sagging sales, primarily in important markets such as the US, China, and Europe. Apple’s third consecutive quarter of falling sales in August signaled the need for new, innovative products in order to attract customers.
Finally, Apple has established its first stores in India this year and considers the rapidly expanding market as both a retail opportunity and, in the long run, a significant production base for its gadgets. In June, iPhone sales in India reached a new high, according to undisclosed figures released by Apple.
