On Thursday, United States President Joe Biden embarked on a journey to India, where he is set to participate in the 18th G20 Summit, scheduled for September 9 and 10 at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi. This event marks the beginning of a busy three-day schedule for President Biden, which includes a brief stopover in Ramstein, Germany, before arriving in New Delhi on the same day.
During his visit, President Biden is scheduled to engage in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to a statement from the White House. The following day, Saturday, will commence with an official arrival and handshake with Prime Minister Modi, followed by participation in the G20 Leaders’ Summit Session 1: “One Earth.” Later that day, he will join the G20 Leaders’ Summit Session 2: “One Family” and take part in a Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment event. The day will conclude with a dinner and cultural program attended by G20 Leaders.
On Sunday, President Biden’s itinerary includes a visit to the Raj Ghat Memorial along with fellow G20 Leaders. Subsequently, he will depart from New Delhi for Hanoi, Vietnam, where a welcome ceremony hosted by General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng of the Communist Party of Vietnam awaits him. The President will engage in a meeting and deliver remarks alongside General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, followed by a press conference, as stated by the White House.
The relationship between India and the United States has strengthened notably in recent times, particularly following Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to Washington, during which he addressed the joint Congress and signed multiple agreements to bolster defense, IT, and aerospace ties. With India chairing the G20, the United States has shown its commitment to ensuring the success of India’s presidency.
In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre commended Prime Minister Modi’s leadership of the G20 this year and emphasized the United States’ dedication to supporting India’s successful hosting of the event.
