Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked on Saturday that the achievement of Chandrayaan-3’s success extends beyond India’s borders and encompasses all of humanity. Speaking at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) command center in Bengaluru, immediately after his return from a busy tour of South Africa and Greece, PM Modi commended the dedicated efforts of the ISRO scientists behind the Chandrayaan-3 mission. He also declared August 23 as “National Space Day” to commemorate the Moon landing of Chandrayaan-3.
During his visit to the ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC), the Prime Minister engaged with the scientists involved in the Chandrayaan-3 project and was briefed on the mission’s progress and findings. Expressing his sentiments, he acknowledged that his unplanned visit might have caused some disruption but reiterated his eagerness to personally acknowledge and honor the scientists for their commitment, determination, valor, devotion, and enthusiasm.
Prime Minister Modi underscored that this accomplishment reflects India’s scientific prowess in the boundless expanse of space. He celebrated the fact that India’s flag has now been planted on the Moon, symbolizing the nation’s bold and relentless spirit. He stressed that this modern India dares to think differently, ventures into unexplored territories, and brings illumination to the world’s challenges. He expressed confidence that India will contribute innovative solutions to global issues in the 21st century.
The Prime Minister described the moment of Chandrayaan-3’s touchdown as a historic and inspiring instance that has left an indelible mark on the nation’s consciousness. He highlighted that this achievement united every Indian in a shared victory.
He likened the lunar lander’s achievement to the mythical figure Angad’s steadfastness, combining the courage of Vikram and Pragyan. These accomplishments, capturing uncharted lunar terrains, stand as a testament to India’s scientific ingenuity and determination, acknowledged by the global community.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the mission’s explorations would not only unlock lunar mysteries but also contribute to addressing earthly challenges. He designated the lunar landing site of Chandrayaan-3 as “Shiv Shakti,” symbolizing resolution and strength for the betterment of humanity, connecting it to the expanse from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari. Additionally, he named the location where Chandrayaan 2 left its mark as “Tiranga,” a reminder that failures are stepping stones to success.
Highlighting India’s ascension to being the fourth nation to successfully land on the Moon and the fifth-largest global economy, the Prime Minister attributed a significant role to institutions like ISRO in propelling India’s rise. He placed a responsibility on the young generation, urging them to delve into the scientific wisdom of India’s ancient scriptures and contribute to the intersection of heritage and knowledge. He called for the exploration, study, and dissemination of this scientific wealth to the world, reiterating its importance for both heritage and scientific progress.
