According to reports, Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, had a productive discussion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s thriving technology ecosystem and the potential benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) for the country. Altman expressed his enjoyment of the meetings he had with individuals in the Prime Minister’s Office.
During his visit to the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi, Altman shared the topics that he and PM Modi discussed. They explored the opportunities available to India, strategies for the country, and the importance of global regulations to mitigate potential negative consequences. Altman described the conversation as excellent and productive.
Altman, who is currently on a tour to various countries, including Israel, Jordan, Qatar, UAE, and South Korea, clarified that OpenAI is not currently training GPT-5. He emphasized that developing GPT-5 requires significant time and effort, and they are still in the early stages of the process.
Speaking at an event hosted by The Economic Times, Altman stressed the need for further safety audits before advancing to the next iteration of GPT. He expressed the inability to provide a specific timeline for the release of GPT-5 and acknowledged the importance of addressing safety concerns.
Earlier this year, Altman also voiced his concerns about the potential risks associated with generative AI, particularly if it were to gain sentience. He acknowledged that if generative AI goes wrong, there could be serious consequences.
