Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Walmart CEO Doug McMillon and several top Walmart executives, including Judith McKenna, President and CEO of Walmart International.
“The meeting with Mr. Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, was a fruitful one,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted. We had enlightening conversations about various topics. I’m happy to see India become a desirable investment location.
“The visit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi reinforces the shared value we bring to working alongside India,” Walmart CEO McMillon said following the meeting. Together, we’ll keep fostering opportunities for the nation’s manufacturing sector to expand.
The CEO of Walmart complimented India’s unique network of suppliers, saying it will help the company reach its goal of exporting items from India worth USD 10 billion annually by 2027.
Mr. McMillon thanked PM Modi and added, “We are working toward exporting $10 billion per year from India by 2027 and are committed to strengthening logistics, skill development, and supply chains to make India a global export leader in toys, seafood, and other goods.”
Walmart makes its expansive Make in India strategy known while there. Walmart’s leadership, including McMillon and Judith McKenna, President and CEO of Walmart International, engaged with a variety of suppliers, merchants, grantees, artisans, and MSMEs across important India programs and initiatives prior to the meeting with PM Modi.
Walmart’s CEO stressed the country of India’s continued commitment as well as the growth of a network of suppliers and partners. He reaffirmed Walmart’s intention to fortify its alliances with Indian communities, increase business prospects for Indian companies, and support Indian retailers in developing cutting-edge retail products for the international market.
The retail behemoth also said that it aims to export $10 billion from India every year by 2027, with the help of its Indian subsidiary.
“Walmart is devoted to India, and we plan to stay for the foreseeable future. We are thrilled about the Indian partners and suppliers who provide high-quality, reasonably priced, and environmentally friendly goods for our consumers and members all around the world. Speaking of India’s potential to become the world’s fastest-growing economy, he continued, “We are happy that our firm can support India’s growth by generating jobs, enhancing communities, and driving India’s rise as a manufacturing destination.
By 2030, McKenna predicted that India’s economy would rank among the greatest in the world. She added that Walmart is delighted to work with India to advance its economy in line with its ambitions.
The business had previously declared that it was giving Indian traders and manufacturers access to a booming market of more than 120 million US consumers each month.
