India and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defence cooperation and advancing regional security in the Indo-Pacific during a series of high-level military engagements. Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander of the United States Pacific Command (USPACOM), met Vice Admiral Vineet McCarty, Commander-in-Chief of India’s Andaman and Nicobar Command, to discuss continued cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries.
The US Embassy in India welcomed the meeting, describing it as another step towards deepening the India-US Major Defence Partnership. In a statement shared on social media, the embassy highlighted the importance of bilateral collaboration in promoting a safer and more secure Indo-Pacific region.
The engagement comes amid continued efforts by New Delhi and Washington to expand defence and strategic cooperation, strengthen military ties and exchange perspectives on regional and global security developments.
During his visit to India, Admiral Paparo also met Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. According to the Ministry of Defence, the discussions focused on strengthening bilateral defence and strategic cooperation, alongside an exchange of views on regional and international issues.
The visit included interactions with several senior Indian military leaders, reflecting the growing scope of engagement between the two countries’ defence establishments.
The US Embassy also hosted a high-level gathering of American and Indian military officials at Roosevelt House in New Delhi. The event brought together Admiral Paparo, Montana Governor Greg Gianforte, Chief of Defence Staff General N. S. Raja Subramani, Chief of the Army Staff General Dhiraj Seth and other senior Indian defence officials.
US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said Admiral Paparo’s visit underscored the importance of the bilateral defence partnership. He also highlighted the scale of the US Pacific Command, which oversees American military operations across a vast region encompassing much of the Indo-Pacific.
India’s strategic location in the Indian Ocean and its growing engagement with regional partners make defence cooperation with the United States an important component of its wider Indo-Pacific outlook. The Andaman and Nicobar Command, positioned near key maritime routes, also has strategic significance for regional maritime security.
The latest engagements reflect continued dialogue between Indian and American defence leaders on military cooperation and shared regional concerns. As both countries pursue closer strategic coordination, high-level exchanges are expected to remain an important channel for discussing security priorities and strengthening bilateral defence ties.
