India will host the 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12-13, bringing together leaders of BRICS member countries, partner nations and outreach invitees.
India’s BRICS Chairship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” reflecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a people-centric approach rooted in the principle of “Humanity First.”
During the summit, leaders are expected to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation within BRICS on common priorities and exchange views on major global and regional developments.
Under India’s chairship, more than 350 meetings and high-level engagements have been organised across more than 25 cities. These engagements have focused on strengthening the BRICS strategic partnership across three key pillars: political and security cooperation, economic and financial cooperation, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
India’s chairship has also promoted business-to-business and people-to-people initiatives aimed at producing practical and development-oriented outcomes.
India assumed its fourth BRICS chairship on January 1, 2026, having previously chaired the grouping in 2012, 2016 and 2021. The year also marks two decades since the establishment of BRICS.
The BRICS logo for India’s chairship combines traditional Indian symbolism with the colours of member countries. The central “Namaste” gesture represents India’s message of warmth, respect and harmonious cooperation.
BRICS currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. Its partner countries include Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
The grouping’s cooperation extends across several areas, including counter-terrorism, climate change, food and energy security, international economic and financial issues, telecommunications, agriculture, employment, trade and the international financial architecture.
The upcoming New Delhi summit is expected to provide India with an important platform to advance its priorities and strengthen BRICS cooperation on issues affecting the Global South and the wider international community.
