Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his greetings to devotees embarking on the Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, describing the sacred pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine as a deeply privileged spiritual experience. In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized that the journey to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani holds immense religious significance and remains one of the most revered traditions for millions of Shiva devotees.
In a letter addressed to pilgrims, PM Modi described the annual Yatra as a profound expression of India’s spiritual heritage and cultural unity. He noted that devotees from across the country and the world come together in Jammu and Kashmir to participate in the pilgrimage, reflecting a shared devotion that transcends language, region, and background. He also extended his best wishes for a safe and peaceful journey for all participants.
As part of his message, the Prime Minister urged pilgrims to follow five key “Sankalps” or resolutions during the Yatra. The first focused on maintaining cleanliness throughout the pilgrimage, while the second emphasized strict adherence to administrative guidelines, safety protocols, and travel regulations, especially given the challenging mountainous terrain and weather conditions.
He also encouraged devotees to actively support local communities by adopting the “Vocal for Local” initiative, suggesting that at least 10% of travel-related spending should be directed toward local products and businesses in Jammu and Kashmir. According to him, this would help strengthen livelihoods and support regional economic growth.
Another key resolution included participation in the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, encouraging pilgrims to plant a sapling as a symbolic gesture of environmental responsibility after completing the journey. The final resolution urged citizens to carry the spirit of “Nation First” into daily life and contribute toward building a developed India.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the extensive efforts of security forces, administrative officials, healthcare workers, sanitation staff, and volunteers who ensure the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. Agencies including the Indian Army, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, and NDRF have been deployed to maintain safety and support infrastructure along the route.
Meanwhile, the second batch of pilgrims has already begun its journey from Jammu under tight security arrangements. Authorities have strengthened surveillance and deployed advanced technology systems, including drone detection and interception mechanisms, radar systems, and aerial monitoring, to ensure the safety of devotees throughout the Yatra.
The Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 will continue until August 28, with pilgrims traveling through both the traditional Pahalgam route and the shorter Baltal route under one of the most comprehensive security deployments in recent years.
