Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to citizens across the country on the occasion of World Environment Day, while acknowledging the efforts of individuals and organizations committed to environmental conservation. He emphasized that the day serves as a reminder to strengthen global and national commitments toward protecting nature and promoting sustainable development.
In his message, the Prime Minister highlighted the progress India has made over the past decade in expanding green cover and improving wildlife populations. He noted that government-led initiatives, combined with public participation, have played a key role in advancing environmental protection efforts across the country.
Modi pointed out that India has demonstrated how collective action, science-driven policies, and innovation can contribute to meaningful environmental improvement. He stressed that the country’s ecological diversity is a major strength, supporting a wide range of species and sustaining millions of livelihoods through varied ecosystems.
The Prime Minister also referred to conservation successes involving several key species, including the Great Indian Bustard, snow leopards, sloth bears, and cheetahs. According to him, ongoing recovery efforts for these species illustrate how long-term commitment and structured conservation strategies can help restore fragile ecosystems and strengthen biodiversity.
He further highlighted initiatives such as “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” which has contributed significantly to afforestation efforts across the country. The program is reported to have supported the addition of approximately 1.1 lakh hectares of forest area annually, reflecting growing public participation in tree plantation and environmental restoration activities.
Modi reiterated India’s guiding philosophy of “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. He said that India remains committed to pursuing a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future through Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which encourages responsible consumption and environmentally conscious living.
In a series of messages shared on social media, the Prime Minister also expressed pride in India’s biodiversity and the country’s ongoing efforts to protect it. He underscored that environmental protection requires a combination of policy support, public awareness, and active participation from citizens.
He concluded by reaffirming that India will continue to strengthen its environmental initiatives, focusing on sustainability, ecological balance, and long-term conservation goals. The message reflected the government’s broader approach to integrating environmental responsibility into national development priorities while encouraging citizens to contribute to a greener future.
