India and Armenia have taken another significant step toward strengthening bilateral defence relations through a series of high-level military discussions held in New Delhi. The meetings focused on enhancing strategic cooperation, increasing military engagement, and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in defence technology and security.
Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi met Lieutenant General Edvard Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, during the Armenian military leader’s official visit to India. The discussions centered on the evolving geostrategic environment, regional security concerns, and ways to further deepen defence cooperation between the two nations.
According to the Indian Army’s Additional Directorate General of Public Information, both sides reviewed avenues to strengthen military partnerships and expand engagement in areas of mutual strategic interest. The talks reflected the growing importance of India-Armenia defence relations amid changing regional dynamics.
Earlier during the visit, Lieutenant General Asryan also held discussions with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. The meeting focused on broader defence cooperation and explored opportunities to enhance institutional collaboration between the two countries. Armenia’s Ministry of Defence stated that the dialogue concentrated on advancing bilateral engagement in the defence sector.
The Armenian military official additionally met Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh earlier this week. Their discussions emphasized improving operational cooperation, enhancing interoperability between the armed forces, and reinforcing bilateral air power relations.
The Indian Air Force described the interaction as an important step toward strengthening defence coordination and operational understanding between the two countries. Armenia’s Ministry of Defence also acknowledged that the talks addressed future areas of cooperation in aviation and military preparedness.
In another key engagement, Lieutenant General Asryan met Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan to discuss the future direction of strategic defence collaboration. The discussions included the possibility of joint ventures in military hardware production and technology development.
Officials stated that both nations expressed interest in building a future-oriented defence partnership focused on long-term strategic cooperation and indigenous defence capabilities. The talks also highlighted shared commitments toward strengthening defence manufacturing and expanding collaboration in emerging military technologies.
During the visit, Lieutenant General Asryan was formally received with a Guard of Honour, underlining the importance India places on its growing relationship with Armenia.
The recent engagements indicate a steady expansion of defence ties between the two countries, with increasing focus on military coordination, technology sharing, defence production, and regional security cooperation. Analysts believe the strengthening partnership could open new avenues for strategic collaboration in the years ahead as both nations continue to diversify their defence relationships and enhance military preparedness.
