India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that the upcoming India Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV) will play a defining role in shaping the next chapter of ties between India and African nations. He emphasized that the future partnership will be broader in scope, more inclusive in approach, and aligned with long-term global goals. His remarks came during the official unveiling of the summit’s logo, theme, and digital platform ahead of the event scheduled for May 31.
Addressing diplomats and stakeholders invested in India-Africa relations, Jaishankar highlighted that the summit will serve as a platform to exchange knowledge, share successful development models, and collectively address global challenges. He noted that the partnership is built on mutual priorities, ensuring that African nations retain ownership of development initiatives while benefiting from India’s expertise and collaboration.
Over the years, engagement between India and Africa has expanded significantly, particularly in sectors such as digital technology, financial innovation, and entrepreneurship. These collaborations have contributed to economic transformation across multiple African economies. Jaishankar also pointed out that both sides have strengthened cooperation in major international initiatives, including renewable energy, sustainable fuels, disaster-resilient infrastructure, and wildlife conservation.
India’s support for Africa’s role in global governance was underscored by the African Union’s inclusion in the G20 during India’s presidency in 2023. This move reflected India’s consistent backing of Africa’s representation in global decision-making platforms.
The minister further emphasized that India’s growing diplomatic presence across Africa reflects a deeper commitment that goes beyond development assistance. According to him, the relationship now focuses on jointly shaping global progress and addressing shared concerns.
The summit will bring together leaders from African countries, the African Union Commission, and regional organizations to outline a roadmap for enhanced cooperation. The theme, centered on innovation, resilience, and inclusive transformation, reflects the comprehensive nature of this partnership.
Ahead of the main event, preparatory meetings will take place, including discussions among senior officials and foreign ministers to finalize key agendas. These sessions will focus on strengthening cooperation across sectors and identifying new opportunities for collaboration.
