Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, marking a major infrastructure milestone aimed at significantly improving regional connectivity. The newly developed corridor reduces travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from more than six hours to nearly 2.5 hours, offering a faster and more efficient route for commuters and transport movement.
The 213-kilometre, six-lane access-controlled expressway has been constructed at a cost exceeding $145 million (over ₹12,000 crore). The project passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, strengthening connectivity between key regions in North India. Officials expect the corridor to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and enhance overall travel efficiency.
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister also conducted a roadshow in Saharanpur while traveling toward Dehradun. Large crowds gathered along the route, welcoming him enthusiastically as his convoy passed through the city. Supporters lined the streets, creating a vibrant atmosphere during the visit.
As part of the event, PM Modi also reviewed the wildlife corridor developed on an elevated section of the expressway. This feature has been designed to ensure safe animal movement while maintaining ecological balance in the region. Later, he visited the Jai Maa Daat Kali Temple near Dehradun and offered prayers.
Beyond improving travel time, the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor is expected to play a key role in driving economic development across the region. Enhanced connectivity between tourism hubs and commercial centers is likely to support trade expansion, encourage investment, and create new employment opportunities. The corridor is also anticipated to strengthen regional integration by linking important urban and rural areas more effectively.
Overall, the project represents a significant step in India’s infrastructure expansion efforts, combining faster mobility with long-term economic and environmental planning to support sustainable regional growth.
