External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with St Kitts and Nevis Minister of Foreign Affairs Denzil L Douglas in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation. The talks focused on key areas including development projects, health collaboration, digital capacity building, and disaster management. Both leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern.
Douglas, who also holds portfolios in International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development, and Investment, emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the Caribbean nation and India. Jaishankar, sharing updates on the discussions, described the meeting as a constructive platform to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
The St Kitts and Nevis minister arrived in New Delhi on Sunday following his engagements in Chandigarh. According to Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, Douglas’ visit marks an important milestone in reinforcing historical ties and broadening the framework for bilateral cooperation. The visit also coincided with the inauguration of the High Commission of St Kitts and Nevis in India, further cementing diplomatic presence and engagement.
India and St Kitts and Nevis share a long-standing relationship marked by mutual trust and support. In July 2007, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen the mechanism of Foreign Office Consultations at the bureaucratic level. As a Commonwealth member, India allows its nationals visa-free access to St Kitts and Nevis. The Caribbean nation has consistently supported India’s positions in international forums, reflecting a cordial and cooperative bilateral partnership.
The high-level visit demonstrates India’s commitment to deepening relations with Caribbean countries, focusing on sustainable development, digital innovation, health collaboration, and disaster resilience. This engagement also reinforces shared interests in regional stability and global cooperation, signaling a new chapter in India-St Kitts and Nevis diplomatic relations.
