New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani has introduced a first-of-its-kind online child care map and resource center designed to help families easily locate and evaluate child care programs across the city. The platform, available at nyc.gov/childcare, centralizes information on 10,000 providers from all five boroughs, allowing users to filter results by location, age group, and cost. Key details about each provider, including services, eligibility, and contact information, are included to assist families in making informed decisions.
The initiative reflects the Mamdani administration’s ongoing commitment to universal, accessible child care. It complements recent expansions, such as over 1,000 new 3-K seats in high-demand neighborhoods and the rollout of 2,000 free 2-K seats in four communities. Mayor Mamdani emphasized that parents already face a heavy load, and navigating child care should not add to their stress. The new tool aims to make government services simple, clear, and accessible for all families.
Chief Technology Officer and Office of Technology and Innovation Commissioner Lisa Gelobter highlighted the platform’s role in leveraging technology to enhance access to essential services. The site’s interactive map provides an intuitive, mobile-friendly layout and is available in multiple languages, enabling families to quickly identify suitable programs without navigating multiple websites.
In addition to the map, the website features clear guides on different program types, a short questionnaire to match families with providers that fit their schedules, and transparent information on health and safety inspections. Live support is offered through multilingual community organizations, ensuring families receive personal assistance when needed.
The platform was developed with extensive input from parents and child care advocates, including focus groups and usability testing, to guarantee accessibility and clarity. Community leaders, such as Kellan Calder of New Yorkers United for Child Care, emphasized the tool’s transformative impact in helping families navigate previously fragmented information. The NYC Child Care Resource & Referral Consortium also noted that this single-entry platform reduces barriers and makes securing child care significantly easier.
With this new resource, New York City families gain a reliable, centralized system to explore, compare, and secure free and affordable child care, marking a significant step in enhancing early education accessibility and family support across the city.
