Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia has hailed India’s remarkable victory in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, describing it as clear evidence of the country’s growing dominance in international cricket. Speaking after India’s emphatic win in the tournament final, Saikia said the achievement was a proud moment for the entire nation.
India secured the championship after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The triumph was historic as it made India the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles and also the first to successfully defend the championship in the tournament’s history.
Reacting to the milestone, Saikia praised the team’s fearless approach and relentless determination throughout the competition. According to him, the players demonstrated remarkable confidence and resilience, qualities that helped them outperform their opponents on the global stage.
Saikia congratulated captain Suryakumar Yadav, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and every member of the Indian squad for their contribution to the victory. He emphasized that the team’s aggressive brand of cricket and their refusal to give up in challenging situations were key reasons behind the successful campaign.
India’s victory was built on a commanding performance in the final match. Batting first, the hosts posted a massive total of 255 runs for five wickets in their 20 overs. The score became the highest ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final, placing immense pressure on New Zealand’s bowling attack.
Sanju Samson led the batting charge with an explosive innings of 89 runs from just 46 deliveries. His performance was supported by Abhishek Sharma, who struck a quick 52, and Ishan Kishan, who added 54 runs to strengthen the team’s total. Their combined efforts ensured India posted a formidable target.
With such a challenging total to chase, New Zealand struggled to keep up with the required scoring rate and eventually fell short, allowing India to celebrate a dominant victory.
Saikia noted that winning consecutive T20 World Cup titles reflects the consistency and strength of Indian cricket. According to him, the achievement highlights the team’s ability to perform at the highest level in global tournaments.
He added that the back-to-back championships represent an extraordinary milestone for the country’s cricketing history and serve as proof that India remains one of the most powerful forces in the sport worldwide.
