Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged a rapid resolution to the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia, emphasizing that armed confrontation alone cannot solve international disputes. His remarks came during a joint press interaction following bilateral discussions with Finnish President Alexander Stubb at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
President Stubb is currently on a four-day visit to India aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries across multiple sectors. During the press statement, Modi highlighted the shared values between India and Finland, noting that both nations strongly support dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law as the foundation for resolving global disputes.
The Prime Minister stressed that peaceful negotiation must remain the priority in addressing global tensions. He noted that conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and instability in West Asia require sustained diplomatic engagement and cooperative efforts by the international community. India, he said, will continue to support initiatives that encourage peaceful dialogue and bring about a swift end to these crises.
In addition to discussions on global peace, the leaders also explored ways to expand bilateral cooperation in advanced technology and sustainable development. Both countries agreed to elevate collaboration in areas such as digital innovation and environmental sustainability to the level of a strategic partnership. According to Modi, the partnership will open opportunities in emerging fields including artificial intelligence, 6G telecommunications, clean energy solutions, and quantum computing.
These high-tech sectors are expected to play a key role in strengthening economic and technological ties between India and Finland in the coming years. The two leaders also discussed increasing cooperation in trade and investment to encourage innovation and shared growth.
Prime Minister Modi further highlighted the importance of the proposed free trade agreement between India and the European Union. He stated that once finalized, the agreement would significantly improve economic relations between India and Finland by encouraging trade expansion, boosting investments, and facilitating greater collaboration in technology-driven industries.
President Stubb arrived in India on Wednesday as part of an official visit designed to deepen economic and strategic partnerships. His visit focuses on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, and critical technology sectors. The discussions between the two leaders reflect a shared commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties while promoting innovation, sustainable growth, and peaceful international cooperation.
