Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a State visit, greeting India with a traditional “Namaste” and outlining an agenda centered on strengthening bilateral relations and advancing global discussions on artificial intelligence.
In a message shared after his arrival, Lula emphasized his commitment to deepening partnerships, enhancing cooperation, and exploring the future of AI on the global stage. He noted that the visit aims to expand opportunities for innovation and collaboration between India and Brazil, reflecting the growing alignment between the two emerging economies.
The Brazilian leader is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reviewing the entire spectrum of India-Brazil ties. His visit coincides with the ongoing India AI Impact Summit 2026, where he will participate in deliberations on responsible AI development and digital transformation. The summit has become a major platform for emerging economies to exchange perspectives on shaping inclusive and ethical technological growth.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Lula was received at the airport by Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, marking the beginning of his official engagements. The ministry highlighted that India and Brazil share a multifaceted relationship elevated to the level of a Strategic Partnership. The two nations are connected through shared democratic values, a common global outlook, and a mutual commitment to inclusive development.
The visit is expected to focus on expanding cooperation across technology, innovation, trade, and global governance. Discussions may also explore new avenues for collaboration in digital infrastructure, economic exchange, and multilateral engagement. Lula has stated that he is in India at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi and intends to discuss fresh opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Accompanied by a delegation of Brazilian business leaders, the President’s visit from February 18 to 22 underscores the growing economic and strategic engagement between the two countries. As India and Brazil continue to strengthen ties, the high-level engagement signals renewed momentum in their partnership, particularly in emerging technologies and global policy coordination.
