External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss multiple aspects of the India-US bilateral relationship. The meeting underscored the two countries’ commitment to strengthening strategic, defence, and economic ties. Ambassador Gor highlighted the significance of the 10-year defence pact signed in 2025, calling it a milestone that will deepen military collaboration. Gor’s remarks came following his meeting with India’s Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, emphasizing continuity and growth in defence cooperation.
Earlier in the week, Ambassador Gor participated in India’s Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, marking the event as a tribute to India’s Constitution and democratic values. He specifically noted the appearance of US-made aircraft during the parade, symbolizing the strength of the US-India strategic partnership in defence and aerospace collaboration.
Additionally, EAM Jaishankar engaged with a US Congressional delegation, including Representatives Mike Rogers, Adam Smith, and Jimmy Patronis, alongside Ambassador Gor, on January 25. The discussions covered the broad spectrum of India-US relations, regional developments in the Indo-Pacific, and ongoing challenges posed by the Ukraine conflict. Jaishankar described the interaction as constructive, highlighting the importance of congressional engagement in reinforcing bilateral ties.
Overall, the series of high-level meetings in New Delhi demonstrates a shared commitment to advancing strategic, defence, and economic cooperation, while addressing regional and global challenges. The engagements reaffirm both nations’ intent to deepen collaboration and maintain a strong, forward-looking partnership.
