On the occasion of Republic Day 2026, the Government of India announced a total of 131 Padma awards, including five Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan, and 113 Padma Shri recipients. These awards, presented annually on January 26, celebrate distinguished achievements across a variety of fields such as art, literature, education, medicine, science and engineering, trade and industry, sports, public affairs, social work, and civil service.
The Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honor after Bharat Ratna, recognized five exceptional individuals for their outstanding and unparalleled contributions. The Padma Bhushan, awarded for distinguished service of high order, honored thirteen luminaries, including notable figures in art, public affairs, medicine, sports, and trade. The Padma Shri, acknowledging distinguished service across disciplines, was conferred upon 113 individuals making significant impacts at both national and international levels.
Prominent awardees included legendary actor Dharmendra Singh Deol (posthumous) and violinist N. Rajam with the Padma Vibhushan. Renowned singer Alka Yagnik and veteran actor Mammootty received the Padma Bhushan, alongside global contributors like Dr. Nori Dattatreyudu in medicine and sports icon Vijay Amritraj from the United States. The Padma Shri list featured achievers spanning science, engineering, arts, social work, literature, and sports, reflecting the diversity and excellence of India’s talent pool.
These awards honor individuals whose dedication, innovation, and hard work have significantly advanced their respective fields, uplifted communities, and strengthened India’s global presence. Many recipients were recognized posthumously, reflecting the enduring impact of their contributions on society.
