India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, delivered the opening address at the India-US Drug Policy Framework Executive Group meeting, reinforcing the importance of sustained collaboration between the two nations in countering drug trafficking. The high-level engagement focused on reviewing ongoing initiatives aimed at tackling narcotics smuggling and the illegal movement of precursor chemicals.
The meeting brought together senior officials from both countries, including Sara Carter, Director of the US Office of National Drug Control Policy. Discussions centered on strengthening operational coordination and enhancing enforcement mechanisms to disrupt illicit drug supply chains. According to the Indian Embassy in Washington, the dialogue underscored the need for precise, outcome-driven action supported by close bilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Kwatra later shared details of the engagement on social media, noting that both sides reviewed progress made so far and reaffirmed their shared commitment to addressing evolving drug-related threats. He emphasized that sustained coordination and focused enforcement remain critical to preventing illegal narcotics flows that pose risks to public health and national security.
Earlier this month, Ambassador Kwatra also hosted a delegation of members from the US House of Representatives at India House. The interaction covered a broad spectrum of issues, including trade, economic cooperation, emerging technologies, innovation, defense collaboration, and counterterrorism efforts. He highlighted that India’s positive economic outlook supports the shared vision of long-term prosperity and strategic stability between the two democracies.
In another key engagement, Ambassador Kwatra met with US House Speaker Mike Johnson at Capitol Hill. The discussions reflected the expanding depth of India-US relations and the growing alignment on strategic priorities. Kwatra expressed appreciation for continued bipartisan support in the US Congress for strengthening bilateral ties.
During the meeting, the Ambassador thanked Speaker Johnson for expressing solidarity with India following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025. Both leaders reiterated their firm stance against terrorism and emphasized the importance of close cooperation to address security challenges. Kwatra also briefed the Speaker on critical areas of partnership, including defense collaboration, energy trade, and advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, highlighting the evolving and multifaceted nature of India-US engagement.
