Anthropic, the emerging AI startup, has appointed Microsoft veteran Irina Ghose as Managing Director for India, ahead of launching its first office in the country. Ghose brings over 30 years of experience in scaling global technology enterprises, making her a strategic choice for guiding Anthropic’s Indian expansion.
Prior to this appointment, Ghose served as Managing Director at Microsoft India, where she spearheaded enterprise AI adoption across multiple sectors, including banking, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and government. She has been instrumental in building high-performance teams, fostering ecosystem partnerships, and advancing future-ready capabilities, all while ensuring technology drives tangible business and societal benefits.
“India has a unique opportunity to influence how AI is developed and applied at scale,” Ghose said. She emphasized that organizations in India are moving beyond pilot projects to implementing AI in ways that balance innovation with trust, safety, and long-term impact.
Expressing enthusiasm about her new role, Ghose shared on LinkedIn that she is honored to lead Anthropic in India. She highlighted Claude.ai, the company’s enterprise-grade AI solution, designed for high-trust, mission-critical environments. Ghose noted that India has become the second-largest market for Claude.ai globally, with adoption rapidly growing across digital natives, software firms, large enterprises, and public-sector institutions.
Ghose also stressed the importance of AI tailored to local languages, describing it as a transformative tool across education, healthcare, workforce development, and skill-building initiatives. “I look forward to collaborating with innovators, leaders, and developers across India to unlock Claude’s full potential,” she said.
Chris Ciauri, Managing Director of International at Anthropic, welcomed Ghose’s appointment, citing her extensive experience in enterprise transformation as a perfect fit for leading Anthropic’s India operations. He added that her leadership would ensure the company’s growth strategy remains rooted in local insights and aligned with its global mission.
According to Anthropic’s latest Economic Index, nearly half of Claude.ai’s usage in India is concentrated in computer science and mathematical applications, reflecting the country’s strong focus on technical adoption and its growing significance as a key market for scalable AI solutions.
