Virat Kohli continued his stellar form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as Delhi faced Gujarat in Round 2 of the tournament. Coming off a match-winning century against Andhra Pradesh in his first game, Kohli delivered another impressive innings, scoring 77 runs off 61 balls, featuring 13 fours and a six, before being dismissed by Vishal Jayswal.
This innings propelled Kohli past a historic milestone, bringing his career List A total to 16,207 runs at an extraordinary average of 57.87. This achievement makes him the highest batting average holder in the history of List A cricket, narrowly surpassing Australian great Michael Bevan, who amassed 15,103 runs at 57.86.
Kohli’s consistent performance places him at the top of the all-time List A batting charts, ahead of other prominent players like England’s Samuel Hain, India’s Cheteshwar Pujara, and Ruturaj Gaikwad. With his century in the opening game, Kohli had already joined the elite 16,000-run club, emulating Sachin Tendulkar and becoming only the ninth player—and fourth from Asia—to reach this milestone.
Notably, Kohli has set the record for the fastest accumulation of 16,000 List A runs, achieving the feat in just 330 innings, a remarkable margin ahead of Tendulkar, who reached the mark in 391 innings. The 37-year-old’s record-breaking performances underscore his extraordinary consistency, skill, and dominance in limited-overs cricket, reinforcing his place among the legends of the sport.
