During his two-day visit to Oman, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Sultanate’s highest civilian honour, the First Class of the Order of Oman. This prestigious recognition places him among the world’s most decorated leaders and adds to his growing list of international accolades.
The Order of Oman is the Sultanate’s top national award, reserved for foreign heads of state and global leaders who have significantly contributed to bilateral ties. PM Modi’s latest honour follows other distinguished awards, including Ethiopia’s Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia and Kuwait’s Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, highlighting his global stature and diplomatic influence.
Expressing his gratitude, PM Modi described the award as a symbol of affection and trust between the peoples of India and Oman. He dedicated the recognition to the ancestors of both nations, who historically strengthened connections through trade and cultural exchange, particularly the journey from Mandvi to Muscat.
This marks PM Modi’s 29th international award since taking office in May 2014, reflecting the increasing global recognition of India’s leadership and diplomatic reach. Notably, he is now the first global leader to receive top civilian honours from five of the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries, with Qatar being the only exception.
Over the years, PM Modi has received multiple prestigious awards across the Gulf. In 2016, Saudi Arabia honoured him with the Order of King Abdulaziz. The UAE conferred its Order of Zayed in 2019, recognising his role in strengthening bilateral ties. Shortly after, Bahrain awarded him the King Hamad Order of the Renaissance, followed by Kuwait’s Mubarak Al-Kabeer Order in December 2024.
Oman’s conferment of the First Class of the Order of Oman, presented by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, further underscores the significance of India’s growing partnerships in the Gulf. This exclusive recognition aligns PM Modi with prominent global figures, including Queen Elizabeth II and Nelson Mandela, solidifying his position as a globally respected leader.
