Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday presented a Russian edition of the Bhagavad Gita to visiting President Vladimir Putin, calling the sacred text a source of inspiration for millions across the world.
Sharing a photograph on X, PM Modi wrote, “Presented a copy of the Gita in Russian to President Putin. The teachings of the Gita give inspiration to millions across the world.” The image shows both leaders holding the book as Modi hands it over during their meeting.
The gesture highlights the cultural and spiritual resonance of the Gita, which has been translated into various global languages and continues to find readership in academic, cultural and spiritual circles worldwide.
President Putin arrived in New Delhi earlier in the evening for a two-day State Visit. PM Modi personally received him at the airport, where the two leaders warmly hugged and shared a moment of camaraderie before departing together in the same car.
The Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, was adorned with India–Russia flags and special lighting as PM Modi hosted President Putin for a private dinner. The two leaders briefly stopped to watch a cultural performance staged as part of the welcome ceremony.
PM Modi said he looked forward to extensive discussions with the Russian President, underscoring the deep and time-tested partnership between the two nations. “Delighted to welcome my friend, President Putin, to India… India-Russia friendship is a time-tested one that has greatly benefitted our people,” he posted on X.
Putin’s visit forms part of a broader diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening strategic, economic and cultural ties at a time of shifting global geopolitical dynamics.
