Indian diplomatic missions across the globe observed International Gita Mahotsav with a series of cultural events that emphasized the timeless guidance of the Bhagavad Gita and its lasting influence in today’s world. The celebrations reaffirmed how the ancient scripture continues to offer clarity, balance, and moral direction even in modern, fast-paced societies.
In Kenya, the Indian High Commission in Nairobi collaborated with the Hindu Council of Kenya to host a special gathering marking the 10th edition of the festival. The event featured a recorded message from External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who reflected on the spiritual and philosophical depth of the Gita and its relevance in contemporary times. Indian High Commissioner to Kenya Adarsh Swaika expressed gratitude to the Hindu Council and acknowledged various local organizations dedicated to promoting the Gita’s teachings.
The program highlighted the universal values embedded in the Gita, underscoring its role as a guide for ethical conduct and purposeful living. Students and representatives from ISKCON, Chinmaya Mission, Bhakti Marga, and the Hindu Council of Kenya presented discourses and recitations of sacred shlokas, further enriching the spiritual atmosphere of the event.
Meanwhile, in India, the main International Gita Mahotsav is underway in Kurukshetra, Haryana, running from November 15 to December 5. This annual celebration honors the day when Lord Krishna imparted the Gita’s eternal message to Arjun on the battlefield. The festival aims to spread the scripture’s core principles—duty, knowledge, and righteousness—across communities worldwide.
In the United States, the Consulate General of India in Houston joined Geeta Pariwar to commemorate Geeta Jayanti at the Vitthal Rukmini Mandir. Speaking at the gathering, Consul Prashant Sona highlighted how the Gita serves not only as a spiritual text but also as a cultural treasure shaping values of compassion, responsibility, and resilience.
The Houston consulate noted on X that collective recitations and reflections during the event brought renewed attention to the Gita’s guidance, including its lessons on balanced decision-making, emotional steadiness during success and adversity, and thoughtful action rooted in empathy.
Across continents, these celebrations underscored the global resonance of the Gita—an ancient scripture that continues to shape lives, communities, and conversations in meaningful ways.
