A study conducted by Nielsen Media India on behalf of Amazon India reveals that consumers across India are feeling optimistic about online shopping for the upcoming festive season, with one in two planning to increase their spending compared to the previous year.
The report indicates that a significant 81% of consumers intend to shop online during the festive season, and more than 75% trust e-commerce platforms for genuine products and convenient shopping. The core expectations of consumers include a broad product selection, competitive pricing, easy returns, and exchanges.
Manish Tiwary, Country Manager India – Consumer Business at Amazon India, expressed enthusiasm about the festive period, emphasizing that the “Amazon Great India Festival 2023” will provide a seamless shopping experience, a wide range of domestic and international brands, competitive prices, and convenience for Indian consumers.
The report highlights that Amazon.in is the preferred online retailer for various categories, including large appliances, mobile phones, consumer electronics, groceries, home and kitchen, fashion, and beauty products. It also notes that 87% of consumers in metro areas and 86% in tier-II cities (with a population of 10-40 lakhs) prefer online shopping during the festive season. Faster delivery options make online festive shopping even more appealing to over 77% of customers.
Attractive offers and new brand launches are key drivers that prompt customers to wait for online festive shopping events, particularly for electronic goods. More than 75% of consumers appreciate the ease and affordability offered through bank offers and no-cost EMIs.
The report highlights that consumers eagerly await online festive shopping events to purchase significant appliances, where they can access new brands and product launches for items like refrigerators, washing machines, geysers, and air conditioners. Additionally, 76% of consumers prefer to buy smartphones during these events, with a significant interest in smartphones priced between Rs. 10,000-20,000 (US$ 120.11-240.22) and a growing demand for 5G features.
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) emerges as the preferred payment option for 42% of consumers during their festive online shopping. Furthermore, 57% of respondents choose UPI for receiving rewards and cashback, especially during the festive season.
