Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia in July, a significant breakthrough has been made in securing the release of Indian nationals from the Russian Army. According to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), 35 Indians have been freed following the Prime Minister’s diplomatic visit, bringing the total number of released individuals to 45, as 10 others were discharged prior to Modi’s visit.
Jaiswal highlighted that ongoing efforts are being made to secure the release of the remaining 50 Indian nationals who are still serving in the Russian military. He assured the public that diplomatic channels are actively being utilised to expedite the process, and the government is working tirelessly to ensure their safe return.
The situation of Indian nationals involved in foreign military services has been a matter of concern for some time. While recent progress has been encouraging, it is clear that the resolution of this issue remains a priority. Jaiswal did not disclose the specific measures being undertaken by the Indian government, but reiterated their commitment to bringing all the citizens home.
