The year 2025 is poised to witness a significant rise in electric vehicle (EV) launches in India, with electric SUVs taking the spotlight across various price segments. Prominent automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra, Tata Motors, Mercedes, Audi, and BYD are gearing up for major EV rollouts. Reports also suggest that Tesla may explore the Indian market, potentially introducing imported models. This surge follows the government’s strong push towards clean mobility, aiming to tackle pollution and reduce fuel import costs. Stricter emission regulations and potential penalties are further driving the shift toward EV adoption.
While petrol, diesel, hybrid, and CNG vehicles will still be launched, electric vehicles are expected to dominate the automotive landscape in 2025. The Bharat Mobility Auto Show, set for mid-January, will mark the start of the year’s EV launches. Maruti Suzuki is set to unveil its first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV), the eVitara, offering a 500 km range and priced above Rs. 15 lakh (US$ 17,490.84). Hyundai will follow with the Creta EV, while Tata Motors plans to roll out electric versions of its popular models, including the Sierra, Harrier, and Safari, all priced above Rs. 20 lakh (US$ 23,321.12). High-end models like the Mercedes G580 Electric G and BYD Bao 3 will also be launched, showcasing the growing appeal of premium EVs.
Audi’s Q6 e-tron SUV, RS e-tron GT, and Skoda’s Enyaq are set to enhance the premium EV segment in India. In addition to these, petrol and hybrid models like Kia’s Syros SUV, Nissan’s Patrol, and BYD’s Denza N9 hybrid will also capture attention. Luxury car lovers can expect to see models like Mercedes’ CLE53 AMG and Audi’s RSQ8 SUV. With these varied offerings, 2025 promises a diverse and vibrant market for both traditional and electric vehicles in India.
