During his meetings, Gor highlighted the importance of expanding strategic partnerships between the two nations. He met executives from Rolls-Royce to discuss the company’s efforts in supporting India-US collaboration in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, and technological innovation.

Sharing details of the interaction, Gor said the partnership between both countries is helping build a more secure and prosperous future through cooperation in areas such as aerospace engineering and industrial development. He emphasized the importance of joint efforts in strengthening innovation and creating new opportunities for both economies.

The US envoy also held discussions focused on critical minerals, a sector that has become increasingly important for global supply chains and emerging technologies. Both India and the US are exploring ways to improve supply chain resilience and develop stronger cooperation in sourcing, processing, and recycling essential minerals.

In another meeting, Gor discussed expanding collaboration in space, critical minerals, and environmental initiatives with Wesley R. Brooks, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs. The discussions also included progress made through the US-India Civil Space Joint Working Group and future opportunities for cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.

Meanwhile, the US-India Business Council (USIBC) organized a business roundtable focused on critical minerals recycling and recovery. The discussion brought together industry experts and policymakers to explore ways both countries can work together to develop sustainable solutions for securing important mineral resources.

USIBC Managing Director Rahul Sharma highlighted that while discussions around critical minerals often focus on mining, there are significant opportunities in recovering valuable materials from used batteries, magnets, and electronic products. He noted that improving recycling capabilities and expanding processing infrastructure could create new avenues for collaboration.

Assistant Secretary Brooks stressed the importance of developing alternative sources of critical minerals through recycling and recovery methods. He said these approaches could provide faster solutions while helping address supply chain challenges.

The roundtable explored several areas of potential India-US cooperation, including access to raw materials, advanced recovery technologies, common standards, supply chain transparency, and strategies to overcome barriers in scaling recycling efforts.

The latest engagements reflect the growing partnership between India and the United States in strategic sectors that support economic growth, technological advancement, and long-term sustainability.

The post US Envoy Advances India-US Tech Partnerships first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

In a new Instagram Reel shared ahead of the occasion on August 7, Modi encouraged people to create “Get Ready With Me” (GRWM) videos featuring handloom outfits and share them with audiences worldwide.

The Prime Minister highlighted the historical importance of National Handloom Day, recalling that August 7, 1905, marked the beginning of the Swadeshi Movement, when Indians united to promote indigenous products and oppose British rule. He urged citizens to celebrate the day with the same enthusiasm shown during other popular occasions and recognize the value of locally made products.

Modi emphasized the significant role played by India’s weaving communities in preserving traditional craftsmanship. He said the day provides an opportunity to appreciate and support families who create handmade fabrics using skills passed down through generations.

India is home to a wide range of handloom traditions, with different regions producing unique textiles, designs, and weaving techniques. The Prime Minister highlighted this diversity and encouraged people to explore and embrace the variety of handloom products available across the country.

Connecting traditional crafts with modern digital platforms, Modi suggested that young people use the popular GRWM video format to showcase handloom clothing. He said such content could inspire more people to purchase handmade products and increase awareness about the efforts of artisans.

The Prime Minister stated that supporting handloom workers is an important part of building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat, or self-reliant India. He stressed that economic empowerment of small and vulnerable weaving families can help preserve India’s cultural heritage while creating sustainable livelihoods.

Modi urged citizens to purchase at least one handloom product, create content around it, and share it online so that the skills and creativity of Indian artisans can reach wider audiences both within the country and globally.

The initiative reflects an effort to combine India’s traditional industries with digital engagement, encouraging younger generations to participate in preserving cultural craftsmanship. Through social media campaigns and increased consumer support, the government aims to provide greater recognition and opportunities for the country’s handloom sector and the millions of artisans connected to it.

The post PM Modi Urges Youth to Promote Indian Handlooms first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

India and the United States have taken another step toward strengthening their partnership in combating illegal drug activities and preventing the misuse of chemical substances. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) hosted the India-US Counter Narcotics Working Group (CNWG) Pillar I Working Group Meeting on August 6, 2026, in a hybrid format to improve cooperation between both countries in tackling narcotics trafficking and the unlawful diversion of precursor chemicals.

The meeting brought together senior officials from multiple Indian and American agencies involved in drug control and enforcement. Representatives from India included officials from the NCB, Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN), Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), Ministry of External Affairs, Department of Revenue, and Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals. The US delegation featured members from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), LEGAT, and the US Department of State.

During the discussions, both sides focused on improving operational coordination, strengthening regulatory frameworks, preventing the illegal movement of precursor chemicals, and enhancing institutional capabilities. India highlighted its existing systems for monitoring precursor substances and shared updates on ongoing measures designed to improve enforcement and oversight.

The latest discussions build on previous engagements held during the 69th Session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs in Vienna in March 2026. At that meeting, officials from both nations explored ways to exchange actionable intelligence and develop faster information-sharing mechanisms. These efforts are aimed at supporting joint investigations and disrupting international drug networks operating across borders.

India has continued expanding its global partnerships in narcotics control. The government recently informed Parliament that the NCB has established bilateral agreements with 27 countries and signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 19 nations to strengthen international cooperation against drug-related crimes.

India also conducts regular high-level discussions on narcotics issues with several countries, including Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore, and the United States. These dialogues help improve coordination among law enforcement agencies and address evolving challenges linked to drug trafficking.

As part of its long-term strategy, the government introduced the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-2029), which outlines a three-year roadmap with specific targets and priorities. The initiative follows a “Whole-of-Government” and “Whole-of-Society” approach to reduce drug abuse and strengthen prevention efforts.

The NCB has also established a four-level Narco-Coordination Center (NCORD) framework to improve collaboration between central and state agencies. The mechanism aims to create stronger coordination among stakeholders involved in preventing drug trafficking and protecting communities from narcotics-related threats.

The post India, US Strengthen Anti-Drug Cooperation Efforts first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding defence cooperation as both countries continue to strengthen their strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific region. The latest discussions took place during a meeting between India’s Ambassador to Japan Nagma Mallick and Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi in Tokyo on August 7, 2026.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on new opportunities to further advance defence collaboration between India and Japan. Japanese officials emphasized that the partnership plays an important role not only for the security interests of both countries but also for maintaining peace and stability across the wider region and globally.

Japan’s Ministry of Defence highlighted that defence cooperation with India, built around shared interests in the Indo-Pacific, remains a key priority. Both nations expressed their intention to continue strengthening ties through greater coordination between defence institutions and armed forces.

The meeting followed a series of recent engagements aimed at deepening bilateral security relations. In July 2026, Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi attended a reception hosted at the Indian Ambassador’s residence, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing defence ties.

Earlier on July 13, India and Japan conducted the 8th Defence Policy Dialogue in Tokyo, where officials discussed ways to expand cooperation in emerging sectors. The discussions covered defence industry partnerships, technological innovation, cybersecurity, space-related cooperation, and other areas of strategic importance.

The dialogue reflected growing alignment between the two countries on regional and international security challenges. Both governments reiterated their support for a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific region based on respect for international law.

The Indian delegation at the Defence Policy Dialogue was led by Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, while Japan was represented by Vice Minister of Defence for International Affairs Kano Koji. Officials reviewed several aspects of bilateral defence engagement, including military exchanges, cooperation between joint headquarters, maritime security initiatives, defence exercises, capability development, and equipment and technology partnerships.

During his visit to Japan, Rajesh Kumar Singh also met Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and conveyed greetings from India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The discussions highlighted the continued momentum behind the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

With both nations facing evolving security challenges in the region, India and Japan are expected to further enhance collaboration across defence, technology, and maritime domains. Their growing partnership reflects a shared vision of promoting stability, security, and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

The post India, Japan Deepen Defence Partnership Talks first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Indian American Representative Suhas Subramanyam has joined fellow lawmaker Dave Min in introducing the Pardon Transparency and Accountability Act of 2026, a bill designed to bring greater oversight and openness to the US presidential clemency process.

The proposed legislation seeks to establish stronger safeguards around presidential pardons and commutations by requiring more detailed explanations and increased public accountability. The bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives and serves as a companion measure to Senate Bill S.256, introduced by Senator Richard Blumenthal.

Subramanyam, who represents Virginia, said the presidential pardon system needs additional protections to prevent potential misuse. He emphasized that clemency decisions should be based on principles of justice rather than political connections or personal influence.

Representative Dave Min of California also supported the legislation, arguing that Americans deserve more transparency about the factors behind presidential pardon decisions. He said the bill would help ensure that executive clemency serves the interests of fairness and justice.

Under the proposed law, the president would be required to provide a written explanation whenever granting executive clemency. The legislation would also direct the Justice Department’s Office of the Pardon Attorney to prepare a Justice Impact Statement for each clemency decision. The statement would evaluate how a pardon or commutation could affect ongoing investigations, prosecutions, or broader law enforcement efforts.

The bill includes additional measures aimed at protecting crime victims by ensuring they are informed before a clemency decision is finalized and are given an opportunity to share their views. It would also require the Pardon Attorney to receive information about potential pardons and sentence reductions at an earlier stage.

Another major provision focuses on increasing disclosure requirements related to lobbying efforts connected with presidential clemency. Supporters believe these changes would reduce the possibility of hidden influence and create a more transparent decision-making process.

The introduction of the legislation highlights ongoing discussions in the United States over presidential authority and the need for accountability in the use of executive powers. For Indian American communities, Subramanyam’s involvement reflects the growing participation of Indian American leaders in shaping national policy debates.

If passed, the bill could bring significant changes to how presidential pardons are reviewed, documented, and communicated to the public. The proposal now moves forward through the legislative process, where lawmakers will debate its potential impact on the country’s clemency system.

The post Indian American Lawmaker Leads Pardon Reform Push first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

India’s commercial coal mining reforms have brought significant changes to the country’s coal sector by improving competition, increasing private sector involvement, and creating a more efficient mining environment. Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy highlighted the progress made through these reforms during a meeting of the Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament associated with the Ministry of Coal.

The minister stated that policy changes introduced over the past 12 years have transformed the coal industry by establishing a transparent auction-based system. These measures have encouraged greater participation from private companies, increased investment opportunities, and helped create a more competitive mining ecosystem.

The Ministry of Coal has successfully completed 14 rounds of commercial coal mine auctions, while the 15th round is currently in progress. To attract more participants, the ministry has been conducting consultations with industry groups and private companies through meetings, outreach programs, and roadshows aimed at addressing concerns and promoting investment.

Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt emphasized the growing contribution of captive and commercial coal mines in strengthening India’s coal production capacity. These mines played an important role in helping the country achieve 1 billion tonnes of coal production in each of the last two financial years. During the previous financial year, captive and commercial mines accounted for nearly 20% of India’s total coal output.

The government has also focused on reducing the time required to begin operations at coal blocks. Fully explored coal blocks can now be operationalized within 40 months, compared with the earlier timeline of 51 months. Similarly, the process for partially explored coal blocks has been shortened from 66 months to 52 months.

These improvements are expected to accelerate domestic coal production and reduce delays in mining operations. The reforms are also aimed at improving ease of doing business, supporting industrial growth, and ensuring a stable supply of energy resources to meet India’s increasing demand.

With continued private sector participation and streamlined processes, India’s coal sector is moving toward greater efficiency and productivity. The government believes these initiatives will strengthen energy security while creating new opportunities for investment and technological advancement in the mining industry.

The post Coal Mining Reforms Drive Private Sector Growth first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
