Pia Dandiya, a proud resident of District 21, daughter of Indian immigrants, a former high school principal and White House fellow who led public sector initiatives at Apple is a new Democratic challenger to the Republican U.S. Representative Brian Mast

Pia Dandiya is a first-generation Indian- American who has dedicated her career to strengthening communities as a high school principal, policy leader and technology innovator.

A Democrat who wants to write a new future, Pia is determined to make the American dream more accessible to her fellow Floridians.

Pia Dandiya has officially entered the race for Florida’s 21st Congressional District.

She said she’s running to “make the American dream accessible to every family across the country.”

“Now more than ever, we need leaders in Washington with a proven track record of putting the American people first,” she stated. “Elected leadership shouldn’t be about headlines or political fights — it should be about the American people.”

A graduate of Harvard University and Boston University, Dandiya brings an extensive background to the race. During her undergraduate years, she taught English to children in New Delhi’s slums during the summers and worked in former U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s office, advocating for public education through the “I Have a Dream” Foundation.

Her teaching career began as a Teach for America corps member in under-resourced schools. She later founded a high-performing high school in Harlem, where every student gained college admission, despite 86% of them living below the poverty line. At just 28 years old, she became one of the youngest principals in the country.

Her work in education led to her appointment as a White House Fellow, where she served under both Presidents Joe Biden and Donald Trump. During her tenure on the White House Domestic Policy Council and at the U.S. Department of Education, Dandiya contributed to policies related to child development, school nutrition, and access to quality education.

Since January 2022, she has worked at Apple, leading public sector partnerships aimed at improving education, health care, and government services through technology. She was also appointed by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to the state’s P-20 Council, where she co-chairs the K-12 Computer Science working group focused on expanding digital learning opportunities throughout the state.

In launching her campaign on Monday, Dandiya unveiled a legislative platform centered on universal pre-K, workforce development for the 21st century, lowering health care costs, and safeguarding entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare.

She also pledged to champion abortion rights and make robust investments in public education if elected, contrasting her vision with that of Rep. Mast — a combat veteran who has held the seat since 2017 and is known for supporting former President Trump’s “America First” agenda.

“Floridians deserve better,” Dandiya declared. “Congressman Mast has stood by as tariffs hurt small businesses, health care costs soar, and veterans are left behind — all while critical programs like Social Security and Medicare face threats. We need bold, effective leadership that meets this moment with clarity and courage.”

Florida’s 21st Congressional District encompasses all of Martin and St. Lucie counties and parts of northern Palm Beach County. While it leans Republican — with a Cook Political Report rating of R+7 — it includes suburban areas where Democratic issues like education and health care resonate strongly.

Here are Five Major Commitments of Pia Dandiya

Economic Opportunity For Every American

Starting as a middle and high school teacher, she went on to found a high-performing high school in Harlem at just 28, where 100% of students—most living below the poverty line—were admitted to college. Her leadership as principal made her one of the youngest in the country and shaped her commitment to economic freedom through education.

Her dedication led her to serve as a White House Fellow at the Domestic Policy Council and Department of Education, where she deepened her belief in the importance of economic independence, childcare access, and affordable healthcare. She now leads public sector initiatives at Apple, helping states use technology to modernize education, healthcare, and governance. Appointed to the Illinois P-20 Council, she co-chaired the K-12 Computer Science group to improve collaboration across education systems.

Pia holds degrees from Harvard and Boston University and has worked in education-focused roles since her college years. Her experience in classrooms, policy circles, and the tech sector equips her to be a people-first leader in Congress. She champions universal pre-K, reproductive rights, job training, and stronger social programs like Social Security and Medicaid.

Living in Palm Beach Gardens with her husband and 2.5 year old sonSahib Sing Alag—who attends the Montessori school her mother founded—Pia is driven to make the government more responsive and ensure that all Americans have the tools not just to survive, but to thrive.

The episode focuses on US President Donald Trump’s controversial claims that he brokered a ceasefire between the two countries—assertions that have been firmly contradicted by the Indian government. To unpack the implications, Subramanian interviews Lisa Curtis, a former Deputy Assistant to President Trump and senior director for South and Central Asia on the US National Security Council.

Curtis, now a senior fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), provides critical insight into the reality behind the headlines. She clarifies that while the US may have played a quiet diplomatic role in urging restraint and facilitating de-escalation, it is misleading to say the US “mediated” the ceasefire. The term “mediation” implies third-party involvement in conflict resolution, especially on sensitive issues like Kashmir—something India categorically opposes. India’s long-standing position is that any dispute with Pakistan must be resolved bilaterally, without foreign intervention.

Trump’s use of words like “brokered” and “mediated” not only contradicts India’s policy but has caused considerable diplomatic discomfort. Curtis suggests this might be a matter of imprecise language rather than a deliberate misrepresentation. However, she acknowledges that Trump’s repeated remarks—even after Indian rebuttals—have deepened mistrust in New Delhi and complicated the India-US strategic dynamic.

There is a strong perception in India that Trump’s statements equated India and Pakistan, ignoring the root cause of the conflict: terrorism originating from Pakistani soil. The April 22 terrorist attack, reportedly carried out by an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, was the immediate trigger for India’s military retaliation under Operation Sindoor. Yet, President Trump has conspicuously avoided condemning the terror attack in his public remarks. This omission has frustrated Indian policymakers and observers, who feel it whitewashes Pakistan’s role in sponsoring cross-border terrorism.

Curtis underscores the danger of such neutrality. By failing to clearly name and shame Pakistan’s involvement in terrorism, the US risks emboldening terrorist groups. Worse still, any suggestion of international involvement in Kashmir provides false hope to such groups and their patrons in Pakistan that violence can achieve diplomatic leverage. This dynamic, Curtis warns, is dangerous and could incentivize future attacks.

While trade negotiations between India and the US are progressing independently, Curtis points out that Trump’s remarks may cast a shadow over the strategic and defense partnership. India may become more hesitant to deepen security ties with the US, fearing a lack of alignment on core national interests. This could particularly affect cooperation within the Quad—the strategic alliance between India, the US, Japan, and Australia aimed at maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.

Curtis also touches on nuclear signaling, which some Western media claimed played a role in escalating the crisis. She notes that one source of alarm may have been India’s strike on an airbase near Pakistan’s nuclear command headquarters, possibly interpreted as a threat to Pakistan’s second-strike capability. This proximity to Pakistan’s nuclear infrastructure reportedly caused concern in Washington and triggered urgent diplomatic outreach, including a call from US Vice President Vance to Prime Minister Modi.

India, however, has officially denied that any nuclear signaling occurred, and Curtis agrees that the panic was more about the fog of war than verified intelligence. Nevertheless, such scenarios highlight how rapidly tensions can escalate in a region where both nations are nuclear-armed. Even vague statements from Pakistani officials, such as conditional references to nuclear use, raise international alarm.

Internally, the political landscape in Pakistan has also shifted. The promotion of General Asim Munir to Field Marshal reflects growing military dominance over the civilian government. Curtis sees this as a concerning development, noting that Pakistan has never had a truly stable democracy, but the current alignment between the military and civilian leadership under Shehbaz Sharif is particularly stark. With opposition leader Imran Khan sidelined, the balance of power has tilted entirely in favor of the military. This, she fears, bodes ill for both Pakistan’s democratic future and its relations with India.

The perception of “victory” in Pakistan, as evidenced by celebrations and Munir’s promotion, could further entrench the military’s influence. Unlike the Kargil conflict in 1999, where Pakistan was forced into a humiliating retreat, the current scenario has seemingly enhanced the military’s domestic reputation. Curtis warns this may increase the likelihood of future provocations against India and reduce incentives for internal reform, especially in curbing terror groups.

Rao raises the question of whether the lack of overt support from the international community for India’s military response was retaliation for India’s neutral stance on the Russia-Ukraine war. Curtis rejects this theory outright, asserting that global powers are more concerned about nuclear escalation than strategic balancing. She emphasizes that in Washington, the driving concern was preventing a catastrophic war between two nuclear-capable nations—not punishing India for its geopolitical choices.

Curtis reaffirms that US-India ties remain strong, rooted in shared democratic values and a mutual interest in countering China’s growing influence. Despite the current turbulence, she recalls that Trump had a robust record on India during his first term, including support during the Galwan Valley standoff with China, strengthening the Quad, and conducting a successful state visit to India in 2020. She expresses hope that the strategic partnership will recover once Trump stops speaking about Kashmir mediation.

As for future US-Pakistan relations, Curtis highlights growing concerns about the lack of democratic checks in Pakistan and its continued harboring of terrorist networks. Any suggestion that Pakistan may have bought influence with Trump—through alleged crypto business ties with his family—would be deeply troubling, if proven true. She emphasizes that US national security interests demand realism about the threats emanating from Pakistan, particularly from groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Curtis also casts doubt on expectations that Trump might pressure Pakistan for Imran Khan’s release or return to politics. Given General Munir’s strengthened position and the sidelining of civilian opposition, she sees little hope for political reform in the near term.

Finally, she analyzes Prime Minister Modi’s statements that the ceasefire is merely a “pause” and that India’s forceful response represents a “new normal.” This, she says, signals India’s intent to retaliate forcefully to any future terror attacks, potentially at a higher level of escalation. US observers are concerned that the region remains a tinderbox. The risk of renewed conflict is real, especially if Pakistan fails to curb terrorism.

Curtis concludes by urging the US to reconsider its focus on the India-US bilateral relationship, avoid making statements about Kashmir, and quietly pressure Pakistan to crack down on terrorism. Only through measured diplomacy and strategic clarity, she argues, can peace and regional stability be maintained.

The post Trump’s Mediation Claim on Kashmir Sparks India-US Tension first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

On March 16, 2025 Lex Fridman, a Russian-American computer scientist, professor, AI researcher based at MIT and podcast host interviewed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Here is a Brief Summary of Lex Fridman Podcast with Narendra Modi.

Lex Fridman introduces his conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most profound discussions of his life. Mr. Fridman acknowledges Modi’s incredible journey from poverty to leading India, the world’s largest democracy, and highlights his global impact as a leader and peacemaker.

The in-depth interview with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi covered a wide range of topics, from India’s economic reforms to global diplomacy, personal leadership philosophy, and the role of technology in shaping the future. Throughout the discussion, Modi shared personal anecdotes, historical perspectives, and his vision for India’s progress. He emphasized the values of public service, dedication to the nation, and his deeply ingrained philosophy of leadership.

Modi, in his opening remarks, emphasizes that his strength does not lie in his individual identity, but in the backing of 1.4 billion Indians and India’s thousands of years of cultural heritage. He presents himself as a representative of India’s values, citing Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, and India’s ancient Vedic traditions. He also underscores India’s historical role as a land of peace, referencing Gautama Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi’s legacies.

Modi’s Humble Beginnings

Modi described his childhood in Vadnagar, Gujarat, growing up in a small house without electricity or shoes. His father was a tea vendor, and young Modi helped him while pursuing his education. Despite economic hardships, he never felt poor because he did not compare his life to luxury. His mother instilled values of cleanliness, self-reliance, and service—qualities that continue to shape his leadership today.

Spiritual Journey in the Himalayas

At age 17, Modi left home to explore the Himalayas, living a nomadic life among monks and spiritual seekers. He read extensively about Swami Vivekananda, which deepened his desire to seek higher truths. He recounts his experiments with physical endurance, such as sleeping without blankets in the cold, to test his body’s limits.

During his journey, he met Swami Atmasthanandji of the Ramakrishna Mission, who steered him toward a life of service rather than renunciation. Modi explains that, though he could have chosen the path of a monk, his spiritual foundation remains at the core of his leadership.

Early Life, Political Journey, and Governance Philosophy

Modi began by sharing his early experiences in politics, emphasizing his deep-rooted connection with the people of India. Before assuming public office, he extensively traveled across India, spending nights in nearly 90% of the country’s districts to understand the needs of ordinary citizens. His leadership is built on firsthand knowledge of India’s grassroots realities.

When he assumed the role of Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, the state had just experienced a devastating earthquake. His immediate priority was rehabilitation and reconstruction, ensuring that those affected received government support efficiently. He stressed that governance, in his view, is about action rather than rhetoric. His approach to leadership is one of service, and he sees himself not as a ruler but as a “prime servant” of India. His guiding principle is “Nation First,” ensuring that every policy decision prioritizes the interests of the people of India.

Fasting, Discipline, and a Life of Service

Lex Fridman, noting that he was fasting before the interview, inquires about Modi’s long-standing practice of fasting. Modi explains that fasting in India is not just about abstaining from food, but a spiritual and scientific process that sharpens the mind, senses, and discipline. He shares that he fasts for nine days during Navratri, drinking only hot water. Additionally, during the monsoon season (Chaturmas), he follows a four-month-long one-meal-a-day discipline.

Modi describes how fasting enhances his thinking, keeps him energetic, and aligns his body and mind. He recounts a moment when he attended a White House dinner while fasting and humorously told President Obama that his “dinner has arrived” while pointing to a glass of hot water. Modi views fasting as a tool for self-discipline and service.

Joining the RSS and Hindu Nationalism

Fridman asks about Modi’s involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which he joined at age 8. Modi describes the RSS as an organization focused on discipline, service, and nation-building. He highlights its contributions to education and social work, citing projects like 125,000 social service initiatives, 70,000 tribal schools, and large labor unions.

He refutes the idea that RSS promotes divisiveness and instead presents it as a volunteer-driven movement fostering national unity. Modi emphasizes that his political philosophy is rooted in service, discipline, and the pursuit of social change.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Influence

Fridman drew parallels between Modi and Mahatma Gandhi, recognizing their ability to mobilize people. Modi praised Gandhi for transforming India’s freedom struggle into a mass movement. He recounted how Gandhi used simplicity, humor, and mass engagement to bring people together, such as his famous quip at Buckingham Palace: “Your King is wearing enough clothes for both of us.”

While Modi acknowledges that his leadership style differs from Gandhi’s, he remains committed to the ideals of social change, unity, and national development.

The 2002 Gujarat Riots and Media Criticism

Fridman asked about the 2002 Gujarat riots. Modi provided historical context, explaining that Gujarat had experienced over 250 riots before 2002. He stated that he was just three days into his office when the Godhra train burning incident occurred, triggering unrest. He highlighted that India’s Supreme Court twice cleared him of any wrongdoing.

He welcomed criticism but distinguished it from baseless allegations, emphasizing the need for fact-based journalism.

His tenure as Chief Minister was also marked by the 2002 Gujarat riots, a subject often revisited in political discourse. Modi reiterated that India’s Supreme Court twice upheld his innocence, and he emphasized how Gujarat has remained peaceful for the last 22 years under his leadership. Before 2002, riots were frequent in Gujarat, but since then, the state has not experienced a single major communal incident.

India’s Unity and Civilization

Fridman asked how India, with its vast diversity, remains united. Modi responded that India is not just a country but a civilization built on shared cultural and spiritual heritage. He cited the example of Lord Ram’s legacy across India and the tradition of chanting river names in prayers as symbols of unity. He stressed that India’s cultural and historical bonds transcend political differences.

Transformational Reforms and Economic Growth

Under Modi’s leadership, India has witnessed several groundbreaking reforms aimed at improving governance, boosting economic growth, and eliminating corruption. One of the most significant reforms was the removal of 100 million fake beneficiaries from government welfare programs, ensuring that only deserving citizens receive benefits. This action alone saved India nearly 3 trillion rupees by cutting out middlemen and preventing fraudulent claims.

To improve government efficiency, Modi’s administration removed 40,000 outdated compliances and scrapped nearly 1,500 obsolete laws. He spoke about India’s rapid adoption of technology, including the introduction of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), which ensures that government aid reaches citizens directly without corruption or inefficiency.

Another major governance initiative was the GeM portal, an online marketplace for government procurement that has streamlined processes, increased transparency, and saved significant public funds. Modi emphasized that these efforts reflect his goal of “freeing governance from unnecessary dominance and inefficiency.”

India’s Democratic Strength and Election Process

India, as the world’s largest democracy, conducts elections on an unprecedented scale. Modi highlighted the 2024 general elections, where 646 million people voted out of 980 million registered voters across more than one million polling booths. He explained how India ensures every citizen’s participation, even setting up polling booths in remote forests to accommodate a single voter.

The logistics of India’s elections are unparalleled, with over 2,500 political parties and more than 900 news channels covering the process. Modi asserted that India’s Election Commission sets a global benchmark in conducting free and fair elections, a model that should be studied by leading universities worldwide.

PM Modi stressed that democracy in India is deeply rooted, robust, and a case study for the world.

Global Politics: War, Peace, and Diplomacy

Relationship with Donald Trump and U.S. Ties

Modi recalled his strong friendship with Donald Trump, including the 2019 ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston. He recounted how Trump broke protocol by taking a lap around the stadium with him, demonstrating trust and boldness. Modi praised Trump’s America First policy, comparing it to his India First approach. He also noted Trump’s resilience after surviving an assassination attempt.

Modi also met with Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard, JD Vance, and Vivek Ramaswamy, discussing topics ranging from AI to democracy.

When asked whether a leader should be loved or feared, Modi replied that India must be respected, not feared. He emphasized India’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (One Earth, One Family) and cited initiatives like:

One sun, one world, and one grid (renewable energy).

One Earth, One Health (global health initiatives)

International Solar Alliance (sustainability efforts)

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Fridman asked about Modi’s role in mediating the Russia-Ukraine war. Modi revealed that he has a good relationship with both Putin and Zelensky and has urged both leaders to seek peace. He reaffirmed India’s stance as a peacemaker, advocating diplomacy over war.

India-Pakistan Relations

Discussing India-Pakistan tensions, Modi recalled his attempts at peace, including inviting Pakistan’s leader to his swearing-in. However, he condemned Pakistan’s history of terrorism and warned that “a nation built on exporting terror cannot prosper.” He stressed that Pakistan’s citizens also want peace, but political instability has been a barrier.

China and Border Disputes

Fridman asked about India-China relations, especially after the 2020 border clashes. Modi emphasized historical cultural ties, recalling that India and China once accounted for over 50% of the world’s GDP. While differences exist, he believes that competition should be healthy, not conflict-driven.

Cricket, Football, and Sports Diplomacy

Modi recounted a remarkable tale about “Mini Brazil,” a tribal village in Madhya Pradesh where generations of people have played football. The village has produced 80 national-level players, and their annual tournament attracts over 25,000 spectators from nearby regions. Modi believes India’s growing enthusiasm for football is a positive sign for national sports culture, fostering discipline, teamwork, and community spirit.

On a lighter note, Fridman asks about the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry. Modi diplomatically avoids ranking teams but acknowledges India’s recent victories. Discussing football, he recalls Maradona as the greatest player of the past and Messi as the standout player of today. He emphasizes that sports unite people across borders and should be celebrated as a force for good.

Technology, AI, and Digital Transformation

Modi declared that AI development is incomplete without India. India is rapidly emerging as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital innovation. Modi argued that without India’s involvement, global AI development would remain incomplete. He cited the country’s vast talent pool, which has produced leaders at top tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

He compared AI’s Western bias to how AI models default to right-handed writing unless specifically trained otherwise.

He also highlighted India’s rapid 5G rollout, which exceeded global expectations. He shared a conversation with an American executive, who noted that while the U.S. struggles to find enough AI engineers, India has such an abundance of talent that even a football field wouldn’t be large enough to hold all qualified applicants.

Education, Youth Development, and Learning Philosophy

Modi has championed education reform, shifting focus from rote memorization to practical skill development. He conducts an annual event, Pariksha Pe Charcha, where he interacts with students to help them manage exam stress. His advice to young people is to embrace continuous learning and not be discouraged by setbacks.

He shared a personal childhood story about a teacher who used chickpeas and grains to teach numbers and quantities, emphasizing that education should be experiential rather than rigidly theoretical.

Advice to Young People

Modi advises young people to develop patience, perseverance, and a mindset of contribution rather than self-interest. He warns against the dangers of taking “shortcuts” in life, saying that the path to success requires consistent effort. His motto for youth is to focus on “doing” rather than just “becoming.” He encourages lifelong learning and emphasizes that real fulfillment comes from giving, not receiving.

Leadership, Hard Work, and Personal Resilience

Fridman asked Modi about the immense power he holds as India’s leader. Modi responded that he does not seek power but rather sees himself as a servant of the people. His leadership is based on hard work, discipline, and ethical governance.

Regarding decision-making, he emphasized that he consults multiple perspectives, critically analyzes every issue, and prioritizes India’s national interest. He recalled his COVID-19 pandemic response, where he resisted international pressure to print excess currency, ensuring India’s economy remained stable post-pandemic.

Spirituality, Meditation, and Mortality

Fridman asked Modi if he contemplates mortality. Modi responded that death is inevitable and should not be feared. Instead, one should focus on enriching life and serving others. He recounted his time in the Himalayas, where a sage taught him concentration through listening to the rhythm of water droplets. This experience shaped his lifelong meditation practice and ability to maintain focus.

He also discussed Hindu mantras, particularly the Gayatri Mantra, which he considers a tool for spiritual enlightenment. He noted that all Hindu prayers end with “Shanti, Shanti, Shanti” (peace, peace, peace), reflecting India’s core philosophy of harmony.

Final Thoughts and India’s Future

As the conversation concluded, Modi expressed strong optimism for India’s future. He believes India’s youth will drive the country’s next phase of growth, and humanity as a whole will continue to adapt and innovate.

Fridman, deeply moved by the discussion, described his time in India as a profoundly eye-opening experience. He was particularly struck by India’s chaotic yet highly functional society, its democratic spirit, and the warmth of its people.

Fridman ends by praising Modi’s philosophy of leadership, discipline, and national unity. Modi reiterates that his identity is tied to India’s legacy and that his mission is to serve, not rule. He envisions India as a leader in global peace and development.

The post “He rose from poverty to lead a nation of 1.4 billion people”: Lex Fridman during his conversation with PM Modi. first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

On March 4, 2025, former President Donald Trump delivered a speech focusing on illegal immigration and his administration’s efforts to curb border crossings. During the address, Trump highlighted what he called “the most sweeping border and immigration crackdown in American history.” He claimed that illegal border crossings had dropped to historic lows, a statement that is supported by recent data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Trump stated, “As a result of our strong actions, illegal border crossings last month were by far the lowest ever recorded.” According to BBC and NBC fact-checks, this claim is accurate. Data from February 2025 showed only 8,326 encounters at the southwest border with Mexico by U.S. Border Patrol. This figure represents the lowest level of recorded crossings since monthly records began in 2000.

Comparing these numbers to the previous year under the Biden administration, the difference is striking. In February 2024, there were approximately 140,000 encounters at the southern border. While the numbers declined toward the end of Biden’s term—dropping to 96,000 in December 2024—the sharp reduction under Trump’s administration is significant.

Trump also claimed, “Since taking office, my administration has launched the most aggressive immigration enforcement effort in U.S. history.” CBP reported that border enforcement has intensified from January 21 through January 31, 2025. U.S. Border Patrol apprehensions dropped by 85% compared to the same period in 2024.

NBC’s fact-check confirmed that previous records showed the lowest month for border crossings was April 2017, when apprehensions stood at 11,677. However, Trump’s cited number—8,326 in February 2025—would indeed set a new record for the lowest monthly total.

The figures President Trump cited in his speech, including crossings, encounters, or apprehensions, appear to be factually correct, as per fact-checks by several media outlets. This suggests that, at least in terms of numbers, Trump’s immigration policies have led to a dramatic decrease in illegal border crossings since his return to office.

Speaking at the Women in Services Sector CII Dialogue 2025, Dawra highlighted the progress made by women across various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and services, marking their growing influence in India’s economic landscape.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to the target set in the Union Budget 2025-26, which aims for 70% of women to be engaged in economic activities by 2047. This vision aligns with the goal of a developed India, ensuring greater female participation in economic growth.

Dawra emphasized the significance of mentorship programs to prepare women for leadership roles and stressed the need for creating safe and inclusive workplaces. She highlighted the potential of fields such as STEM, entrepreneurship, and startups as critical avenues for increasing women’s participation in the workforce.

Royal Recognition for Women’s Role in Society

Maharani Shailja Katoch, of the royal family of Kangra-Lambagraon (Himachal Pradesh), also addressed the gathering, emphasizing the integral role of women in society. She referred to them as the backbone of change, nurturing communities while managing multiple responsibilities.

Discussing education, she expressed confidence in India’s progressive policies and noted that determined women can achieve remarkable success. She cited examples of girls from Himachal Pradesh excelling in diverse fields, including civil services and corporate leadership roles.

On the topic of cultural preservation in the digital era, she highlighted the importance of making heritage appealing to younger generations by integrating modern elements such as audiovisual storytelling, social media, and contemporary product adaptations.

Women’s Role in Art and Cultural Progress

Tarana Sawhney, Advisor to the CII Task Force on Art & Culture, spoke about the significant role women have played in shaping India’s cultural landscape. She pointed out that historically, women have been the unseen architects of India’s cultural fabric—working as storytellers, artisans, performers, designers, and curators—whose contributions are now receiving due recognition.

She highlighted the impact of renowned artists such as Amrita Sher-Gil, whose works continue to achieve record sales, and contemporary artists like Mrinalini Mukherjee, Zarina Hashmi, and Nalini Malani, who have earned international recognition with exhibitions at prestigious venues such as the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the National Gallery in London.

Sawhney further acknowledged the role of women in leading India’s top contemporary art galleries and their active participation in global institutions. However, she also noted persisting challenges such as unequal pay, limited institutional support, and sociocultural biases. She advocated for equipping women with technological tools and resources to advance their artistic and entrepreneurial pursuits, envisioning a future where gender equality is a given and opportunities are accessible to all.

Women in Fashion Industry and Skill Development

Fashion designer Rina Dhaka underscored the crucial role women play in the fashion industry, contributing across areas such as design, production, retail, and entrepreneurship.

She stressed the need for skill-building initiatives and training programs targeted at female tailors, machine operators, and CAD designers to enhance employment opportunities and promote fair compensation. She urged the government and industry leaders to collaborate on mentorship programs, tailored policies, and financial support—especially for small-scale, women-led businesses.

Dhaka also highlighted the rapid transformation of India’s fashion industry, which has grown exponentially from a handful of designers to thousands of thriving businesses, even reaching small towns and rural areas.

The discussion at the CII Dialogue 2025 underscored the progress made by Indian women in various sectors while also emphasizing the need for continued efforts to achieve greater workforce participation and gender equality.

The post Participation of Indian Women in Workforce Rises from 23% to 42% in Six Years first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

India booked their spot in the Champions Trophy 2025 final with a thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on March 4. They will now face the winner of the South Africa vs New Zealand semifinal, scheduled for tomorrow in Pakistan.

Chasing a target of 265, India became the first team in this tournament to surpass 250 runs in Dubai. Historically, the venue has witnessed only three successful chases above 250, with Sri Lanka’s 285-run pursuit against Pakistan in 2013 remaining the highest.

Australia, after choosing to bat first, put up a total of 264 before being bowled out in 49.3 overs. Their innings started on a shaky note as Mohammad Shami dismissed Cooper Connolly for a duck. Travis Head provided a steady start with 39 runs before falling to Varun Chakravarthy. Skipper Steve Smith anchored the innings with a crucial 73, while Alex Carey contributed 61 off 57 balls before an unfortunate run-out.

India’s bowlers maintained their grip on the game, restricting Australia from reaching a massive total. Shami led the attack with three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two each. Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel also chipped in with a wicket apiece.

In response, India’s chase was powered by Virat Kohli, who played a composed 82-run knock, keeping the innings stable despite early setbacks. Hardik Pandya provided a much-needed boost in the middle order, smashing 47 off just 32 balls, including three sixes, ensuring India stayed ahead in the game. With valuable contributions from Shubman Gill (38) and KL Rahul (29), India successfully reached the target with eight balls to spare.

With this victory, India moves into the final with momentum on their side, one step closer to lifting the Champions Trophy.

The post India Beats Australia, Advances to Champions Trophy Final first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Kash Patel’s swearing-in as the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) marked a significant moment for the Indian American community, particularly for those supporting the Republican Party and former President Donald Trump. His decision to take the oath of office on the Bhagavad Gita underscored the growing acceptance of diverse religious traditions in American governance.

Political analysts see Patel’s appointment as a step forward for Indian Americans within the Republican Party, which has historically had fewer representatives from the community. Robinder Sachdev, president of the Delhi-based Imagindia Institute and co-founder of the US India Political Action Committee, noted that Patel’s rise reflects increasing opportunities for Indian Americans in Republican politics.

For Karthik Rangarajan, a Virginia-based technology and business consultant, Patel’s elevation is a landmark event, making him the first Indian American and person of color to lead the FBI. He pointed out that Trump’s administration has been one of the most diverse, bringing individuals from different political backgrounds into key roles. Patel’s vocal stance on issues such as government transparency has positioned him as an influential figure within conservative circles.

Patel’s appointment is particularly significant for younger Indian Americans, many of whom have been drawn to Trump’s direct and aggressive social media strategy. According to Sachdev, Patel’s leadership style resonates with Trump’s image as a strong leader, making him a rising figure among young Republican supporters.

Community leaders, such as Jiten Agarwal from Houston, Texas, view Patel’s appointment as a sign of growing Indian American representation in high-level government positions. He noted that while Trump’s administration may be perceived as predominantly White, the proportion of Asian and Pacific Islander members aligns with the general U.S. population.

The appointment also marks a shift in political engagement, as Indian Americans have traditionally been more involved with the Democratic Party. However, Patel’s rise signals a growing presence in conservative politics, potentially inspiring more Indian Americans to explore opportunities within the Republican Party.

Over the past decade, the number of Indian Americans in senior U.S. government roles has surged by 150%. While the Biden administration had around 150 Indian Americans in leadership positions, experts believe the number will be smaller under Trump. However, with over 1,200 senior positions to be filled, Patel’s appointment may pave the way for more Indian Americans to enter high-ranking roles in law enforcement and governance.

Sanjeev Joshipura, executive director of Indiaspora, sees Patel’s appointment as a positive sign for the continued engagement of the Indian diaspora in American politics. With more opportunities opening up under the Trump administration, Indian Americans may increasingly find representation in senior government roles, strengthening their influence across the political spectrum.

The post Kash Patel’s Historic FBI Appointment Signals Shift in Indian American Politics first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

The events surrounding the ouster of Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, and the subsequent installation of Muhammad Yunus as the head of an interim government have stirred considerable controversy and raised critical questions about the extent of foreign influence in Bangladesh’s domestic affairs. As we dissect these occurrences, it becomes increasingly clear that the United States has played a significant role in shaping the political trajectory of Bangladesh, a role that bears the hallmarks of a carefully orchestrated coup rather than a natural political transition.

The Prelude to a Regime Change
Sheikh Hasina’s warning to her allies on May 24, 2024, about an imminent conspiracy against her government was more than a mere political statement; it was a reflection of the geopolitical pressures she had been under for years. Her prediction of a plot by a foreign power to remove her from office, which tragically came true, highlights the precarious nature of leadership in nations where external powers hold significant sway. The specific allegations of Hasina facing threats from U.S. representatives demanding the creation of a “Christian state” and the establishment of a U.S. military base on Saint Martin Island serve as chilling reminders of the coercive methods used to subjugate sovereign nations.

Hasina’s swift departure to India amid violent protests, which bore the markings of a well-coordinated effort to destabilize her government, signals the gravity of the situation. In reality, a coalition of actors, possibly incentivized or even orchestrated by foreign entities, backed the protests ostensibly led by students. The fact that these protests escalated so quickly and with such intensity suggests a level of organization and support that could only come from a well-resourced and determined entity—likely the U.S. State Department.

Muhammad Yunus: A Pawn or a Player?
The appointment of Muhammad Yunus as the interim leader of Bangladesh is not just a coincidence; it is a strategic move that aligns with the interests of the United States. Yunus, a Nobel Laureate and a figure with deep connections to influential American figures like Hillary Clinton and George Soros, has long been a favored candidate of the United States for leadership in Bangladesh. His history with the Clinton Foundation and his financial contributions to it position him as deeply embedded within the power networks that extend beyond Bangladesh’s borders.

The relationship between Yunus and the Clintons is emblematic of the broader issue of how personal and financial ties can influence international politics. The 2017 letter from Charles E. Grassley, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary, to then-Secretary of State Rex Tillerson sheds light on the extent to which the Clintons were willing to leverage their power to protect Yunus. The letter’s allegations that Hillary Clinton used her position as Secretary of State to pressure the Bangladeshi government into halting a corruption investigation into Yunus underscore the intersection of personal relationships and political power.

The United States State Department’s Unseen Hand
The involvement of the U.S. State Department in Bangladesh’s political affairs, particularly in relation to the Grameen Bank investigation, reveals the lengths to which the United States will go to protect its interests and those of its allies. The pressure exerted on Sheikh Hasina’s government to drop the investigation into Yunus, as well as the subsequent threats made to her son, Sajeeb Wazed, of an IRS audit if he did not comply, are indicative of a strategy that combines diplomatic pressure with personal intimidation.

These actions are not isolated incidents but part of a broader pattern of U.S. intervention in the political processes of sovereign nations. Similar accusations of U.S. meddling in domestic affairs to install leaders more amenable to American interests recur in the case of Bangladesh. The fact that the U.S. State Department, under multiple administrations, has consistently supported Yunus, even when faced with credible allegations of financial misconduct, suggests a calculated effort to maintain influence in Bangladesh.

The Grameen Bank controversy
The Grameen Bank Commission’s findings against Yunus and his associated entities are damning. The commission’s report, which revealed significant irregularities and a lack of transparency within the Grameen Bank’s operations, stands as a stark reminder of the complexities involved in microfinance institutions that operate on a global scale. The involvement of international figures like George Soros, who provided financial backing for Yunus’ ventures, adds another layer of complexity to the situation.

The commission’s investigation into the creation of Grameen Telecom and the illegalities surrounding it further complicates Yunus’ image as a benevolent social entrepreneur. The transfer of funds between various entities associated with Yunus raises serious questions about these organizations’ governance and accountability. The commission’s recommendation to suspend Grameenphone Ltd.’s telecommunication license, though ultimately not implemented, was a clear indication of the severity of the issues at hand.

The role of George Soros
In the context of Bangladesh, we cannot overlook George Soros’ involvement, a figure often associated with using his wealth to influence political outcomes. Soros’ financial support for Yunus and his organizations, coupled with the strategic objectives of the U.S. in the region, point to a concerted effort to mold Bangladesh’s political landscape in a way that serves specific interests. Soros’ history of funding political movements, as well as his role in the creation of Grameenphone Ltd. through the Soros Economic Development Fund, are examples of how financial power can translate into political influence.

The Broader Implications
This coup has far-reaching implications. For Bangladesh, the removal of Sheikh Hasina and the installation of a U.S.-backed leader could mean a reversal of the progress that the nation has made under her leadership. Despite its flaws, Hasina’s government has achieved significant economic and social advancements. The potential rollback of these achievements under Yunus’ interim government could lead to instability and unrest, particularly among the segments of the population that have benefited from Hasina’s policies.

The situation in Bangladesh serves as a cautionary tale for the region about the dangers of foreign intervention in domestic politics. The precedent set by the U.S. in Bangladesh could embolden other nations to exert similar pressures on smaller, less powerful countries. This could lead to a destabilization of the geopolitical order in South Asia, with far-reaching consequences for regional security and economic stability.

A Call for Sovereignty
The story of Bangladesh’s recent political upheaval is a stark reminder of the fragility of sovereignty in a world where powerful nations wield their influence with little regard for the autonomy of others. The United States’ involvement in the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and the installation of Muhammad Yunus is a clear example of how foreign powers can shape nations’ destinies in pursuit of their own interests.

As we reflect on these events, it is critical that we advocate for the protection of national sovereignty and the right of nations to determine their own political futures without external interference. The Bangladesh case should serve as a wake-up call to the international community to scrutinize powerful nations’ actions and hold them accountable for their interventions in the affairs of other sovereign states.

The people of Bangladesh must choose their leaders and future. Any attempt to impose leadership from outside, no matter how well-intentioned, undermines the democratic principles that should be the foundation of any nation’s political system. The world must support Bangladesh in its quest for true sovereignty, free from the shadows of foreign power.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his commitment to the people of India for an unprecedented third term, is not just targeting another electoral win but envisioning a transformative leap towards making India a developed nation by 2047. This ambition, articulated through the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, promises a future where the previous terms serve merely as a prelude to an era of “unprecedented development.”

The BJP’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ emerges not as a mere political document but as a blueprint for India’s journey over the next two decades. Modi’s confident rhetoric in a recent interview with the Hindustan Times underlines this vision. He attributes his past terms’ achievements to correcting historical oversights and initiating a rapid growth trajectory. Now, with a sure win for the third term, Modi plans to accelerate this momentum across various sectors, emphasizing the upliftment of the poor, youth, farmers, women, and the middle class through the GYANM model.

The strategy to project a long-term vision reflects an astute political acumen. By anchoring his campaign in India’s future development, Modi effectively shifts the electorate’s focus from the immediate past and present challenges to a hopeful and prosperous future. Furthermore, his emphasis on the routine nature of the delimitation exercise seeks to normalize and depoliticize what could be a contentious issue, thereby reinforcing his leadership as stable and forward-thinking.

As India prepares for the 2024 elections, Modi’s narrative portrays the BJP not only as a party vying for power, but also as a steward steering the country towards a significant milestone in national development. We remain to see whether this vision will resonate with the electorate, given the grand promise and high stakes involved.

Let me now talk about cricket, the Indian people’s second religion.

As the drumbeat of cricket’s fervent following echoes louder in the suburbs of New York, the upcoming T20 World Cup in Eisenhower Park symbolizes a pivotal moment in U.S. sports culture. This June, cricket enthusiasts and novices alike will converge on a newly constructed stadium in suburban New York, which holds the promise of cricket’s expansion in America.

The venue choice of New York is strategic, tapping into the area’s rich cricketing veins nourished by South Asian and Caribbean communities. Local leagues have long thrived here, and with the World Cup, the sport stands on the precipice of mainstream recognition—much like soccer in 1994, after its FIFA World Cup stint in the U.S.

This historic event is not just about sports; it’s a testament to the evolving American cultural tapestry. Cricket, traditionally seen as an outsider in the mainstream American sports lineup, is now setting the stage for a grand showcase. The anticipation is palpable among the players and fans, and the involvement of figures like Usain Bolt underscores the event’s significance.

Local cricket bodies and international organizers see this tournament as a gateway to elevating cricket to a major U.S. sport. Initiatives such as Major League Cricket are gaining momentum, and cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics is laying the groundwork for sustained growth.

Furthermore, the T20 format, known for its fast-paced and viewer-friendly matches, is perfectly suited to capture the American audience’s imagination. We expect the Pakistan vs. India match, in particular, to draw significant viewership, highlighting the sport’s global appeal.

In summary, the T20 World Cup in New York is more than just a series of cricket matches; it represents a transformative moment for the sport in the U.S. As cricket pitches its tent on American soil, it brings with it a legacy of diversity and competition, promising a thrilling experience for all.

Let me finally discuss Bollywood news, which is combined with news about Indian politics..

Kangana Ranaut’s journey from the quaint hills of Himachal Pradesh to the limelight of Bollywood and now onto the political stage epitomizes a saga of relentless determination and influential change. Known for her fierce independence and refusal to conform to the entrenched norms of the film industry, Kangana has not only won acclaim for her acting prowess but has also become a polarizing figure in the public domain.

Her entry into politics marks a significant pivot in her career, intertwining her cinematic persona with her real-life role as a spokeswoman for cultural and nationalistic values. This transition seems like a natural progression for someone who has consistently used her platform to voice her opinions on a range of social and national issues, often inviting both admiration and controversy.

Kangana’s advocacy for a meritocratic approach in Bollywood has sparked crucial conversations around nepotism and the barriers faced by outsiders. She now seeks to extend her influence beyond cinema by stepping into the political arena, aiming to directly impact governance and public policy. Whether as an actor or a politician, Kangana continues to be a figure of empowerment and change, challenging societal norms and advocating for a more inclusive and fair landscape.

As Kangana Ranaut charts this new course, her journey will undoubtedly be one to watch as it unfolds against the backdrop of India’s dynamic socio-political canvas. The intertwining of her film and political careers showcases not just a personal evolution but also reflects the changing contours of celebrity influence in India.
