The strategic and multifaceted relationship between India and Saudi Arabia is set to receive a substantial boost during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to the Kingdom next week.

Scheduled for April 22–23, the visit comes at the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. This marks PM Modi’s third official visit to Saudi Arabia, following his previous trips in 2016 and 2019. It also follows the Crown Prince’s State Visit to New Delhi in September 2023, during which he co-chaired the inaugural meeting of the India-Saudi Arabia Strategic Partnership Council (SPC) alongside attending the G20 Summit.

“India and Saudi Arabia share close and friendly ties, rooted in a long history of socio-cultural and trade connections. As strategic partners, the two countries maintain strong bilateral relations spanning various sectors including political, defence, security, trade, investment, energy, technology, health, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges,” stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

The MEA further emphasized that bilateral ties have significantly matured over the past decade, developing into a robust partnership that now encompasses a broad range of strategic domains. This includes increased investment flows, deeper defence cooperation, and consistent high-level engagements.

According to the ministry, Prime Minister Modi’s upcoming visit underscores the importance India places on its relationship with Saudi Arabia. The visit is expected to offer an opportunity to deepen the comprehensive partnership and facilitate dialogue on regional and global matters of mutual concern.

Guided by the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, Prime Minister Modi has consistently acknowledged Saudi Arabia as one of India’s most critical partners in its extended neighbourhood.

Diplomatic relations between India and Saudi Arabia were established in 1947. In 2010, the relationship was officially elevated to a Strategic Partnership. The past decade, especially following PM Modi’s landmark visit to Riyadh in April 2016, has witnessed a significant expansion of this partnership. That visit notably led to enhanced cooperation in political, economic, security, and defence sectors, and PM Modi was honored with the Kingdom’s highest civilian award, the ‘King Abdulaziz Sash’, by King Salman.

The two nations agreed to establish the Strategic Partnership Council (SPC) during PM Modi’s October 2019 State Visit to Riyadh. The SPC operates through two main pillars — the Political-Security-Socio-Cultural (PSSC) and the Economic and Investment pillar. The PSSC is co-chaired by India’s External Affairs Minister and the Saudi Foreign Minister, while the economic component is jointly led by India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry and Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister.

The SPC structure includes eight Joint Working Groups (JWGs) and several sub-committees under both pillars, which convene regular official-level discussions to monitor and enhance cooperation.

The first SPC Summit was held in New Delhi in September 2023, co-chaired by PM Modi and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during the latter’s visit.

Since the beginning of 2024, there have been 11 ministerial-level visits exchanged between the two countries. Notably, the Saudi Foreign Minister and the Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources visited India in November 2024 and February 2025, respectively.

As Riyadh is also the headquarters of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), India has maintained a productive dialogue with the GCC Secretariat. In September 2024, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar co-chaired the first India-GCC Ministerial Meeting in Riyadh.

On the economic front, Saudi Arabia stands as India’s fifth-largest trading partner, while India is the Kingdom’s second-largest trade partner. During the Financial Year 2023–24, India imported goods worth USD 31.42 billion from Saudi Arabia, while exports to the Kingdom totaled USD 11.56 billion.

India’s major exports to Saudi Arabia include engineering goods, rice, petroleum products, chemicals, textiles, food items, and ceramic tiles. Imports from Saudi Arabia are led by crude oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), fertilizers, chemicals, plastics, and related products.

Saudi investments in India, including those by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi companies, and the Saudi-backed Vision Fund, have reached approximately USD 10 billion. These investments span across sectors and include PIF stakes in Reliance Jio Platforms, Reliance Retail Ventures Limited, Oyo Hotels, and health tech startup Healthifyme. In addition, the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) has invested in Daawat Foods Limited, and SABIC has invested over USD 100 million in its technology and innovation center in Bengaluru.

Prominent Saudi investors in India include ARAMCO, Zamil Group, Al Fanar, and Petromin. Meanwhile, Indian investments in Saudi Arabia have also seen an upward trajectory, reaching approximately USD 3 billion as of August 2023. These span diverse sectors such as management consultancy, construction, telecom, IT, financial services, software development, and pharmaceuticals. Several leading Indian companies — including L&T, Tata Group, Wipro, TCS, TCIL, Shapoorji Pallonji, Air India, Go Air, Indigo, and SpiceJet — have a well-established presence in the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia was India’s third-largest source of crude oil and petroleum products in FY 2023–24, with imports totaling 33.35 million metric tons (MMT), which accounted for 14.3% of India’s total crude oil imports. During the same period, it was also India’s third-largest LPG supplier, contributing 18.2% of the country’s total LPG imports. Additionally, Saudi Arabia is a key supplier of fertilizers to India and is the second-largest source of Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP).

The Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia is approximately 2.7 million strong and plays a vital role as a bridge between the two nations. Their contributions to the Kingdom’s economic development are well acknowledged. Over the past year alone, around 100,000 Indians migrated to Saudi Arabia for employment.

Religious pilgrimages are also a crucial element of the bilateral relationship. India’s annual Haj quota currently stands at 175,025 pilgrims, reflecting the deep people-to-people ties between the two countries.

The post PM Modi’s Upcoming Riyadh Visit Set to Elevate India-Saudi Arabia Ties first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

A recent revelation by former RAW chief A.S. Dulat in his book “The Chief Minister and the Spy” has stirred significant controversy for Jammu and Kashmir’s ruling National Conference (NC). The book claims that former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah was secretly in agreement when Article 370 was abrogated.

The National Conference has strongly denied Dulat’s claim, dismissing it as “a figment of fiction.” However, the assertion has reignited political debate across J&K, with many leaders questioning the stance allegedly taken by Dr. Farooq Abdullah as presented in the book.

Dulat recalls the meeting between Farooq Abdullah and his son, Omar Abdullah, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi just days before Article 370 was revoked. “What transpired during the meeting, nobody will ever know. Farooq has certainly never mentioned it,” writes Dulat.

Reflecting on the political developments of 2019, Dulat describes Farooq Abdullah’s house arrest as “the saddest story in Kashmir.” He shares an emotional conversation in which the NC patron questioned his detention.

“When he spoke to me about the abrogation later, he was forthright. ‘Kar lo agar karna hai (do it if you want to),’ he said, somewhat bitterly. ‘Par yeh arrest kyu karna tha? (but why arrest us?)’,” Dulat writes.

The book also contrasts the political styles of father and son. While both Farooq and Omar Abdullah have served as Chief Ministers, Dulat suggests that Farooq has always aimed to align with Delhi, but on his own terms. In contrast, Omar is portrayed as someone who actively tries to please Delhi.

“He (Farooq) always looked for a level playing field and, in the end, did it his way, which Delhi could never comprehend,” writes Dulat. He cites an example from March 2020, after Farooq’s release from detention, when Delhi expected him to meet the Prime Minister. Instead, Farooq delayed the meeting, citing the need for cataract surgeries. He eventually visited Delhi in July 2020.

“That is the difference between Farooq and Omar. When Omar says he wants a good relationship with Delhi, he goes out of his way to please Delhi. Farooq does what he thinks will go down best with his people,” Dulat observes.

The former intelligence chief also recounts an incident from 2014 when he was vacationing in Goa and received a call from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) headquarters in Delhi. They asked if he had Farooq Abdullah’s London phone number.

“I do,” Dulat replied, “but I hardly have it here on the beach! Baat kya hai? Ab aap phone karna chah rahe ho, but it’s too late now. (What’s the matter? If you want to call him now, it’s too late.)”

The response from the IB was vague: “We just wanted to enquire about his health.” To this, Dulat notes, “Well, even there you’re too late.” He describes the moment as another indication of how significant a figure Farooq Abdullah is—and how, despite Delhi’s attempts to sideline him, he remains impossible to ignore.

“He is the face not just of his party but of the Valley in modern India,” writes Dulat.

Reacting to the book’s contents, Sajad Gani Lone, leader of the Peoples Conference, said he was not surprised by the revelations. He pointed out that the Abdullahs had met the Prime Minister on August 4, 2019, just before the abrogation.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Lone stated: “Dulat sahib has revealed in his upcoming book that Farooq Sahib privately supported the abrogation of Article 370. Coming from Dulat sahib makes this revelation very credible. Dulat sahib is the closest ally and friend of Farooq sahib—virtually his alter ego. Incidentally, Dulat sahib is the famed uncle of the infamous Uncles and Aunties Brigade of Delhi.”

Lone added that the NC would likely deny the claim and portray it as yet another conspiracy.

“They have perfected playing the victim card,” he wrote. “Uncles and Aunties will take cognisance of my tweet and other such tweets and implore the BJP to teach such tweeters a lesson. Out here, their MLAs will privately visit LOP Sunil Sharma and tell him they are brothers separated at the Kumbh Mela. That the theatre they enact in and outside the Assembly is in national interest.”

He went on to say, “I personally am not surprised at this revelation. The August 4, 2019, meeting of CM sahib and Farooq sahib with the PM was never a mystery for me. I can visualise Farooq sahib saying — Humey roney deejiye—Aap apna kaam karein—hum aap kay saath hain (Let us cry—You go ahead with your work—we are with you). It now seems 2024 was a prize for services rendered in 2019. Of course, in national interest.”

Meanwhile, Iltija Mufti, leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also reacted sharply to Dulat’s revelations. She accused Farooq Abdullah of choosing to remain in Kashmir instead of attending Parliament sessions, thereby contributing to the normalization of what she termed the “gutting” of J&K’s constitution.

“Dulat sahab, an ardent Abdullah supporter, has shared how Farooq sahab agreed with Delhi’s illegal move of abrogating Article 370,” she wrote on X. “There were already doubts about what transpired between the Abdullahs and PM in the days before J&K’s special status was revoked. With this, it’s clear that Farooq sahab chose to stay in Kashmir instead of the Parliament to help normalise gutting of J&K’s constitution and subsequent betrayal.”

The post Article 370: Former RAW Chief Alleges Quiet Support from the Abdullahs first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Costing $66 million and spanning 2.08 kilometers over the Palk Strait, it is the country’s first vertical-lift railway sea bridge. This new structure links Rameswaram, a prominent pilgrimage destination, to the Indian mainland, replacing the 110-year-old bridge decommissioned in 2022 due to aging and high maintenance.

A trial run was successfully completed ahead of the bridge’s official inauguration. During the inauguration, PM Modi remotely activated the bridge’s vertical-lift mechanism, demonstrating the operation of its 72.5-meter central span. The span can rise up to 17 meters to allow larger marine vessels to pass beneath without disruption to rail traffic. Modi also flagged off the first train service over the bridge—the Rameswaram–Tambaram Express—and launched a Coast Guard vessel to mark the start of the bridge’s operational life.

Built to endure the tough coastal climate, the bridge boasts 99 spans and advanced anti-corrosion features, including stainless steel reinforcements and a durable polysiloxane coating. With fully welded joints and support from 333 piles and 101 pile caps, the structure ensures long-term stability. The dual-track design allows it to accommodate both heavy freight services and semi-high-speed trains, like the Vande Bharat Express, making it a future-ready asset for Indian Railways.

The initial bridge functioned as a vital route for trade and pilgrimage for more than 100 years. However, persistent corrosion and high repair costs led to the decision for a modern replacement. Construction began in 2019 after the foundation stone was laid, and the new structure now stands three meters taller than its predecessor—allowing smaller ships to pass without lifting the span.

Modi’s visit to Rameswaram also included prayers at the revered Ramanathaswamy Temple and the launch of road and rail development initiatives valued at over $1 billion, aimed at transforming regional connectivity across Tamil Nadu.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the new Pamban Bridge as a marvel of Indian engineering and a symbol of Tamil culture and pride. The inauguration has been met with enthusiasm for its potential to invigorate tourism, enhance trade routes, and modernize transport in southern India.

The post Modi Unveils Pamban Bridge: India’s First Sea Lift first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Indian diaspora in Thailand for their warm and enthusiastic welcome. He also described witnessing a performance of Ramakien, the Thai adaptation of the Ramayana, as an “enriching experience.”

Upon his arrival in Bangkok for the BIMSTEC Summit, PM Modi attended a performance of Ramakien, a cultural spectacle that underscores the deep historical and civilizational ties between India and Thailand. This traditional Thai retelling of the Ramayana has played a significant role in shaping Thailand’s cultural identity and its connection with India.

As he reached his hotel, he was greeted with a lively Garba performance, a folk dance from Gujarat, his home state. The hotel premises were filled with enthusiastic members of the Indian diaspora, dressed in vibrant traditional attire, representing various Indian communities, including Sikh, Garhwali, and Gujarati groups.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi shared his appreciation, stating, “Grateful for the warm welcome by the Indian community in Bangkok. India and Thailand share a deep-rooted cultural bond that continues to flourish through our people. Heartening to see this connection reflected so strongly here.”

He further praised the Ramakien performance, calling it “a cultural connect like no other!”

“Witnessed a captivating performance of the Thai Ramayana, Ramakien. It was a truly enriching experience that beautifully showcased the shared cultural and civilizational ties between India and Thailand,” PM Modi wrote on X.

“The Ramayana continues to connect hearts and traditions across so many parts of Asia,” he added.

PM Modi was received at Bangkok airport by Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit, along with senior Thai officials. As he stepped out, the Indian diaspora cheered his arrival with chants of “Modi Modi” and “Vande Mataram,” reflecting the strong people-to-people ties between the two nations.

The Prime Minister is in Thailand to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, where he will engage with regional leaders on crucial areas of cooperation among the Bay of Bengal countries. His schedule includes bilateral talks with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, aimed at further strengthening India-Thailand relations.

India plays a crucial role in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), acting as a key driver of regional integration. PM Modi’s presence at the summit is expected to bolster India’s leadership within the framework, reinforcing its commitment to regional progress.

BIMSTEC is a regional grouping comprising seven member states—five from South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka) and two from Southeast Asia (Myanmar and Thailand). The organization serves as a vital bridge between the two regions, with India as its most significant and influential member, actively shaping the group’s agenda and fostering greater collaboration.

Following his engagements in Thailand, PM Modi is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for the second leg of his official tour.

The post PM Modi Thanks Indian Diaspora in Thailand, Calls Thai Ramayana an ‘Enriching Experience’ first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

On March 16, 2025 Lex Fridman, a Russian-American computer scientist, professor, AI researcher based at MIT and podcast host interviewed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Here is a Brief Summary of Lex Fridman Podcast with Narendra Modi.

Lex Fridman introduces his conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most profound discussions of his life. Mr. Fridman acknowledges Modi’s incredible journey from poverty to leading India, the world’s largest democracy, and highlights his global impact as a leader and peacemaker.

The in-depth interview with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi covered a wide range of topics, from India’s economic reforms to global diplomacy, personal leadership philosophy, and the role of technology in shaping the future. Throughout the discussion, Modi shared personal anecdotes, historical perspectives, and his vision for India’s progress. He emphasized the values of public service, dedication to the nation, and his deeply ingrained philosophy of leadership.

Modi, in his opening remarks, emphasizes that his strength does not lie in his individual identity, but in the backing of 1.4 billion Indians and India’s thousands of years of cultural heritage. He presents himself as a representative of India’s values, citing Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, and India’s ancient Vedic traditions. He also underscores India’s historical role as a land of peace, referencing Gautama Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi’s legacies.

Modi’s Humble Beginnings

Modi described his childhood in Vadnagar, Gujarat, growing up in a small house without electricity or shoes. His father was a tea vendor, and young Modi helped him while pursuing his education. Despite economic hardships, he never felt poor because he did not compare his life to luxury. His mother instilled values of cleanliness, self-reliance, and service—qualities that continue to shape his leadership today.

Spiritual Journey in the Himalayas

At age 17, Modi left home to explore the Himalayas, living a nomadic life among monks and spiritual seekers. He read extensively about Swami Vivekananda, which deepened his desire to seek higher truths. He recounts his experiments with physical endurance, such as sleeping without blankets in the cold, to test his body’s limits.

During his journey, he met Swami Atmasthanandji of the Ramakrishna Mission, who steered him toward a life of service rather than renunciation. Modi explains that, though he could have chosen the path of a monk, his spiritual foundation remains at the core of his leadership.

Early Life, Political Journey, and Governance Philosophy

Modi began by sharing his early experiences in politics, emphasizing his deep-rooted connection with the people of India. Before assuming public office, he extensively traveled across India, spending nights in nearly 90% of the country’s districts to understand the needs of ordinary citizens. His leadership is built on firsthand knowledge of India’s grassroots realities.

When he assumed the role of Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, the state had just experienced a devastating earthquake. His immediate priority was rehabilitation and reconstruction, ensuring that those affected received government support efficiently. He stressed that governance, in his view, is about action rather than rhetoric. His approach to leadership is one of service, and he sees himself not as a ruler but as a “prime servant” of India. His guiding principle is “Nation First,” ensuring that every policy decision prioritizes the interests of the people of India.

Fasting, Discipline, and a Life of Service

Lex Fridman, noting that he was fasting before the interview, inquires about Modi’s long-standing practice of fasting. Modi explains that fasting in India is not just about abstaining from food, but a spiritual and scientific process that sharpens the mind, senses, and discipline. He shares that he fasts for nine days during Navratri, drinking only hot water. Additionally, during the monsoon season (Chaturmas), he follows a four-month-long one-meal-a-day discipline.

Modi describes how fasting enhances his thinking, keeps him energetic, and aligns his body and mind. He recounts a moment when he attended a White House dinner while fasting and humorously told President Obama that his “dinner has arrived” while pointing to a glass of hot water. Modi views fasting as a tool for self-discipline and service.

Joining the RSS and Hindu Nationalism

Fridman asks about Modi’s involvement with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which he joined at age 8. Modi describes the RSS as an organization focused on discipline, service, and nation-building. He highlights its contributions to education and social work, citing projects like 125,000 social service initiatives, 70,000 tribal schools, and large labor unions.

He refutes the idea that RSS promotes divisiveness and instead presents it as a volunteer-driven movement fostering national unity. Modi emphasizes that his political philosophy is rooted in service, discipline, and the pursuit of social change.

Mahatma Gandhi’s Influence

Fridman drew parallels between Modi and Mahatma Gandhi, recognizing their ability to mobilize people. Modi praised Gandhi for transforming India’s freedom struggle into a mass movement. He recounted how Gandhi used simplicity, humor, and mass engagement to bring people together, such as his famous quip at Buckingham Palace: “Your King is wearing enough clothes for both of us.”

While Modi acknowledges that his leadership style differs from Gandhi’s, he remains committed to the ideals of social change, unity, and national development.

The 2002 Gujarat Riots and Media Criticism

Fridman asked about the 2002 Gujarat riots. Modi provided historical context, explaining that Gujarat had experienced over 250 riots before 2002. He stated that he was just three days into his office when the Godhra train burning incident occurred, triggering unrest. He highlighted that India’s Supreme Court twice cleared him of any wrongdoing.

He welcomed criticism but distinguished it from baseless allegations, emphasizing the need for fact-based journalism.

His tenure as Chief Minister was also marked by the 2002 Gujarat riots, a subject often revisited in political discourse. Modi reiterated that India’s Supreme Court twice upheld his innocence, and he emphasized how Gujarat has remained peaceful for the last 22 years under his leadership. Before 2002, riots were frequent in Gujarat, but since then, the state has not experienced a single major communal incident.

India’s Unity and Civilization

Fridman asked how India, with its vast diversity, remains united. Modi responded that India is not just a country but a civilization built on shared cultural and spiritual heritage. He cited the example of Lord Ram’s legacy across India and the tradition of chanting river names in prayers as symbols of unity. He stressed that India’s cultural and historical bonds transcend political differences.

Transformational Reforms and Economic Growth

Under Modi’s leadership, India has witnessed several groundbreaking reforms aimed at improving governance, boosting economic growth, and eliminating corruption. One of the most significant reforms was the removal of 100 million fake beneficiaries from government welfare programs, ensuring that only deserving citizens receive benefits. This action alone saved India nearly 3 trillion rupees by cutting out middlemen and preventing fraudulent claims.

To improve government efficiency, Modi’s administration removed 40,000 outdated compliances and scrapped nearly 1,500 obsolete laws. He spoke about India’s rapid adoption of technology, including the introduction of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), which ensures that government aid reaches citizens directly without corruption or inefficiency.

Another major governance initiative was the GeM portal, an online marketplace for government procurement that has streamlined processes, increased transparency, and saved significant public funds. Modi emphasized that these efforts reflect his goal of “freeing governance from unnecessary dominance and inefficiency.”

India’s Democratic Strength and Election Process

India, as the world’s largest democracy, conducts elections on an unprecedented scale. Modi highlighted the 2024 general elections, where 646 million people voted out of 980 million registered voters across more than one million polling booths. He explained how India ensures every citizen’s participation, even setting up polling booths in remote forests to accommodate a single voter.

The logistics of India’s elections are unparalleled, with over 2,500 political parties and more than 900 news channels covering the process. Modi asserted that India’s Election Commission sets a global benchmark in conducting free and fair elections, a model that should be studied by leading universities worldwide.

PM Modi stressed that democracy in India is deeply rooted, robust, and a case study for the world.

Global Politics: War, Peace, and Diplomacy

Relationship with Donald Trump and U.S. Ties

Modi recalled his strong friendship with Donald Trump, including the 2019 ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston. He recounted how Trump broke protocol by taking a lap around the stadium with him, demonstrating trust and boldness. Modi praised Trump’s America First policy, comparing it to his India First approach. He also noted Trump’s resilience after surviving an assassination attempt.

Modi also met with Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard, JD Vance, and Vivek Ramaswamy, discussing topics ranging from AI to democracy.

When asked whether a leader should be loved or feared, Modi replied that India must be respected, not feared. He emphasized India’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (One Earth, One Family) and cited initiatives like:

One sun, one world, and one grid (renewable energy).

One Earth, One Health (global health initiatives)

International Solar Alliance (sustainability efforts)

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Fridman asked about Modi’s role in mediating the Russia-Ukraine war. Modi revealed that he has a good relationship with both Putin and Zelensky and has urged both leaders to seek peace. He reaffirmed India’s stance as a peacemaker, advocating diplomacy over war.

India-Pakistan Relations

Discussing India-Pakistan tensions, Modi recalled his attempts at peace, including inviting Pakistan’s leader to his swearing-in. However, he condemned Pakistan’s history of terrorism and warned that “a nation built on exporting terror cannot prosper.” He stressed that Pakistan’s citizens also want peace, but political instability has been a barrier.

China and Border Disputes

Fridman asked about India-China relations, especially after the 2020 border clashes. Modi emphasized historical cultural ties, recalling that India and China once accounted for over 50% of the world’s GDP. While differences exist, he believes that competition should be healthy, not conflict-driven.

Cricket, Football, and Sports Diplomacy

Modi recounted a remarkable tale about “Mini Brazil,” a tribal village in Madhya Pradesh where generations of people have played football. The village has produced 80 national-level players, and their annual tournament attracts over 25,000 spectators from nearby regions. Modi believes India’s growing enthusiasm for football is a positive sign for national sports culture, fostering discipline, teamwork, and community spirit.

On a lighter note, Fridman asks about the India-Pakistan cricket rivalry. Modi diplomatically avoids ranking teams but acknowledges India’s recent victories. Discussing football, he recalls Maradona as the greatest player of the past and Messi as the standout player of today. He emphasizes that sports unite people across borders and should be celebrated as a force for good.

Technology, AI, and Digital Transformation

Modi declared that AI development is incomplete without India. India is rapidly emerging as a leader in artificial intelligence and digital innovation. Modi argued that without India’s involvement, global AI development would remain incomplete. He cited the country’s vast talent pool, which has produced leaders at top tech companies like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

He compared AI’s Western bias to how AI models default to right-handed writing unless specifically trained otherwise.

He also highlighted India’s rapid 5G rollout, which exceeded global expectations. He shared a conversation with an American executive, who noted that while the U.S. struggles to find enough AI engineers, India has such an abundance of talent that even a football field wouldn’t be large enough to hold all qualified applicants.

Education, Youth Development, and Learning Philosophy

Modi has championed education reform, shifting focus from rote memorization to practical skill development. He conducts an annual event, Pariksha Pe Charcha, where he interacts with students to help them manage exam stress. His advice to young people is to embrace continuous learning and not be discouraged by setbacks.

He shared a personal childhood story about a teacher who used chickpeas and grains to teach numbers and quantities, emphasizing that education should be experiential rather than rigidly theoretical.

Advice to Young People

Modi advises young people to develop patience, perseverance, and a mindset of contribution rather than self-interest. He warns against the dangers of taking “shortcuts” in life, saying that the path to success requires consistent effort. His motto for youth is to focus on “doing” rather than just “becoming.” He encourages lifelong learning and emphasizes that real fulfillment comes from giving, not receiving.

Leadership, Hard Work, and Personal Resilience

Fridman asked Modi about the immense power he holds as India’s leader. Modi responded that he does not seek power but rather sees himself as a servant of the people. His leadership is based on hard work, discipline, and ethical governance.

Regarding decision-making, he emphasized that he consults multiple perspectives, critically analyzes every issue, and prioritizes India’s national interest. He recalled his COVID-19 pandemic response, where he resisted international pressure to print excess currency, ensuring India’s economy remained stable post-pandemic.

Spirituality, Meditation, and Mortality

Fridman asked Modi if he contemplates mortality. Modi responded that death is inevitable and should not be feared. Instead, one should focus on enriching life and serving others. He recounted his time in the Himalayas, where a sage taught him concentration through listening to the rhythm of water droplets. This experience shaped his lifelong meditation practice and ability to maintain focus.

He also discussed Hindu mantras, particularly the Gayatri Mantra, which he considers a tool for spiritual enlightenment. He noted that all Hindu prayers end with “Shanti, Shanti, Shanti” (peace, peace, peace), reflecting India’s core philosophy of harmony.

Final Thoughts and India’s Future

As the conversation concluded, Modi expressed strong optimism for India’s future. He believes India’s youth will drive the country’s next phase of growth, and humanity as a whole will continue to adapt and innovate.

Fridman, deeply moved by the discussion, described his time in India as a profoundly eye-opening experience. He was particularly struck by India’s chaotic yet highly functional society, its democratic spirit, and the warmth of its people.

In a renewed attack on Indian NGOs and Western media for allegedly pushing an anti-Prime Minister Narendra Modi narrative, Amit Malviya, BJP’s in-charge of the National Information & Technology Department, has hinted at the possible involvement of the deep state in certain Western nations in this campaign.

Taking to social media, Malviya pointed out what he described as a coordinated effort by several Western institutions to target India ever since the BJP came to power under Modi in 2014.

“A whole ecosystem in the West spanning governments, parliaments, media, think tanks, academia, journals, democracy and religious promotion organisations, and so on, have been targeting India ever since Modi and the BJP came to power in 2014,” Malviya wrote in his post.

He highlighted that this campaign has escalated significantly in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He accused leading global publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs, The Economist, Le Monde, and Deutsche Welle of uniformly pushing a negative narrative on issues like democracy and minority rights in India.

“Before the 2024 Lok Sabha election, the anti-Modi and anti-BJP campaign intensified. Established publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Affairs, The Economist, Le Monde, Deutsche Welle, etc. uniformly promoted a negative narrative about the state of democracy and minority issues in India, some even calling openly for voting against Modi for re-election,” he said.

He further claimed that this was not just a case of biased journalism but a deliberate and coordinated attempt to influence Indian politics. “Some observers in India felt that this was a concerted campaign that also involved the deep state in these countries,” he added.

Malviya argued that these external attacks were not coincidental but rather synchronized with the political strategies of the Indian opposition. “It is not a coincidence that these attacks on Modi and the BJP government in Western circles were closely aligned with the political attacks by India’s opposition,” he remarked.

Foreign Funding of NGOs and Its Impact

Elaborating on how PM Modi’s government had to impose restrictions on foreign funding of NGOs in India, Malviya reiterated that several of these organizations were allegedly involved in activities against national interests.

“The present government has in recent years greatly tightened up on foreign funding of Indian NGOs when evidence grew that they were engaging in political and social activities against the country’s interest, and also mobilising local populations against some development projects,” he stated.

He specifically targeted the Open Society Foundation (OSF), an organization founded by billionaire George Soros, accusing it of political interference in Indian democracy.

“The Open Society Foundation in particular, founded by magnate George Soros, has been blatantly active politically against Prime Minister Modi himself, and on the issue of democracy in India. Its link with USAID has now come out into the open,” Malviya asserted.

Criticism of US Government’s Alleged Interference in Indian Elections

Malviya also referred to a controversy from the previous month, where he criticized the now-cancelled US government funding meant to influence voter turnout in India. He claimed that such financial initiatives amounted to external interference in India’s democratic process.

“$21M for voter turnout? This definitely is external interference in India’s electoral process. Who gains from this? Not the ruling party for sure!” he said, hinting at a possible conspiracy involving the opposition to leverage American funds for electoral influence.

His comments came in response to a decision by the United States Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, which canceled a $21 million grant that was originally approved under former President Joe Biden’s administration. The fund, according to reports, was intended to boost voter turnout in India, a move Malviya strongly opposed.

Malviya’s remarks further fueled discussions around the role of foreign influence in India’s democratic processes and the broader geopolitical battle over narratives surrounding India’s governance.

The future of the nation is shaped by investments in innovation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Wednesday, underscoring that artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to significantly contribute to India’s economy and generate millions of jobs.

Speaking at a post-Budget webinar, PM Modi highlighted the allocation of Rs 500 crore in the Union Budget for AI-driven education and research. He stressed that AI could add several lakh crore rupees to the economy, making it a game-changer for India’s technological advancement.

He also elaborated on the government’s plans to establish a National Large Language Model to develop AI capabilities in India. He urged the private sector to take proactive steps in this field, ensuring that India remains ahead in the global AI landscape.

“The world is looking for a reliable, safe, and democratic nation that can offer cost-effective AI solutions,” he stated, emphasizing that investments made in AI and innovation today will yield immense benefits in the future.

The Prime Minister also pointed out India’s rapid emergence as a global startup hub, stating, “India has now become the third-largest startup ecosystem in the world.” He explained that several measures have been introduced in this year’s budget to further promote and support startups.

One of these measures is the approval of a Rs 1 lakh crore corpus fund dedicated to boosting research and innovation in emerging sectors. This fund will be utilized through the ‘Deep Tech Fund of Funds,’ ensuring greater investments in pioneering technological advancements.

PM Modi also emphasized the government’s initiative to provide 10,000 research fellowships at premier institutions such as the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). He noted that these fellowships will help drive research, foster innovation, and create new opportunities for the nation’s youth.

Additionally, the Prime Minister spoke about the National Geo-spatial Mission and the National Research Foundation, highlighting their role in accelerating research and development. He noted that these initiatives will play a crucial role in enhancing India’s research capabilities and fostering a culture of innovation.

Another key initiative discussed by PM Modi was the Gyan Bharatam Mission, which aims to preserve India’s rich manuscript heritage. He announced that over one crore manuscripts will be digitized under this mission, leading to the creation of a National Digital Repository.

“This repository will be an invaluable resource for scholars and researchers worldwide, granting access to India’s vast historical and traditional knowledge,” he added.

PM Modi also announced the establishment of a National Gene Bank, which will focus on preserving India’s plant genetic resources. He emphasized that this initiative is vital for ensuring long-term genetic diversity and food security for future generations.

Referring to observations made by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in February, PM Modi highlighted India’s strong economic progress. He noted that between 2015 and 2025, the Indian economy has experienced a 66 percent growth, making it a $3.8 trillion economy.

The Prime Minister stressed that this growth has outpaced several major global economies and expressed confidence that India is well on its way to becoming a $5 trillion economy in the near future.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted with students at Sunder Nursery, New Delhi, on the 8th episode of Pariksha Pe Charcha. During an informal discussion, he discussed a variety of topics that touched upon nutrition, wellness, time management, managing pressure, and leadership. He distributed sweets made from til (sesame), a traditional wintertime food that keeps the body warm. Nourish to Flourish: Importance of Nutrition.

The topics and the message are universal, and this will apply very well for the students living in the US as well as all over the world.

PM Modi talked on nutrition, highlighting the UN declaration of 2023 as the International Year of Millets at India’s suggestion. He emphasized healthy eating, urging students to consume seasonal fruits, avoid junk food, fried items, and processed flour (maida), and adopt mindful eating.
He advised students to chew food a minimum of 32 times and sip water in small amounts to facilitate digestion. Drawing the example of farmers, he recommended a heavy breakfast and an early dinner before sunset for sustained energy levels and excellent health overall.

Wellness & the Role of Sunlight
Speaking of health, PM Modi clarified that disease-free does not always imply health. He stressed the need for good sleep and encouraged children to bathe in the morning sunlight, as the sun is an essential source of vitamin D. He also recommended deep breathing beneath a tree in the morning to increase oxygen flow.

Mastering pressure and staying focused
PM Modi conceded that society has a tendency to impose undue pressure on students, especially in the context of board examinations. He dismissed the notion that scoring low marks is tantamount to failure in life and instead advised students to focus solely on their studies, just as a batsman would on the ball when playing cricket.
He urged students to continue to challenge themselves by establishing personal goals and competing with their own past performances rather than being influenced by extraneous factors. He emphasized mental discipline and clear decision-making.

The Art of Leadership
When asked about leadership qualities, PM Modi remarked that leadership is by example, not by issuing instructions. He underlined that leaders must practice what they preach and cited an example—unless someone who talks of cleanliness also keeps his or her surroundings clean, such a person can never be a leader.
PM Modi also emphasized the significance of teamwork and patience, stating that true leadership involves understanding team challenges and helping members overcome them. He compared leadership to a child holding a parent’s hand in a crowded fair, where the child feels secure. Similarly, a leader should instill trust and confidence in their team.

Beyond Books: 360° Growth
PM Modi dispelled the myth that success is measured by academics only. He asked students to get involved in extracurricular activities, as they assist in all-round development. He appealed to parents and teachers not to restrict kids to academics only, as it could stifle their creativity and development.
He clarified that exams are not the end of the world, and knowledge and learning have to be continuous. He made students do hobbies along with studies, which would make studying more enjoyable.

Finding positives and discovering uniqueness
PM Modi asked the students to develop a positive attitude by identifying and appreciating the good in others. He suggested that instead of searching for flaws, one should acknowledge strengths like a friend being a talented singer or nicely dressed.
He also narrated an inspirational tale of an Ahmedabad kid who was on the verge of being expelled from school due to poor academic performance but later became a robotics genius. He stressed that parents and teachers must identify and nurture each child’s strengths.

Mastering time and overcoming distractions
PM Modi emphasized time management since every individual receives the same 24 hours, yet successful people utilize their time wisely. He advised students to study difficult subjects first rather than procrastinating.
He also discussed distractions, particularly the constant stream of thoughts and mobile phone usage, that inhibit productivity. He advised students to have study goals and check their progress daily.

Living in the present and mental health
PM Modi emphasized staying in the present rather than worrying about the future or the past. He requested the students pause, reflect, and reboot, appreciating small joys in life, such as feeling a gentle breeze.
On mental health, he advised students to say what they feel rather than bottling up emotions. He acknowledged that communication in the family was once an emotional outlet but that modern lifestyles do not permit such communication. He urged students to talk to their family members and say what they feel to get rid of stress.

Following Interests Over Societal Expectations
PM Modi addressed the parental pressure on career choices. He requested parents to develop the innate talent of their wards rather than impose traditional career choices like medicine or engineering.
He cited the instance of Sachin Tendulkar’s success in cricket as a passion-driven achievement and requested parents to take a lesson from it and nurture their wards’ interests rather than comparing them to others.
Getting Self-Motivated
PM Modi stressed the importance of self-motivation, asking students to challenge themselves with small, achievable goals. As a tip, he suggested having goals like covering a distance on a cycle to gain confidence and develop a habit of crossing personal limits.
He claimed to be driven by the 140 crore Indians whom he was serving and asserted that motivation could be found in the simplest of things if one only observed them.

Overcoming Failure
In case of failure, PM Modi reassured students that failing an examination does not mean the end of life. He urged students to use failure as a learning experience, as cricketers use their failure and try to improve their game.
He also highlighted that differently abled individuals often possess exceptional strengths, reiterating that achievement in life is a function of holistic capabilities, not just academic marks.

Intelligent Use of Technology
PM Modi acknowledged that while technology is a powerful tool, it needs to be used productively. He asked students to use technology to explore their area of interest more deeply rather than wasting time on unnecessary things.

Handling exam stress and ecological responsibility.
In order to learn time management skills and how to write concise answers, PM Modi advised students to solve previous years’ exam papers.
He also addressed climate change, commending the younger generation for being so aware. He introduced Mission LIFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and highlighted India’s traditional nature-respecting practices, such as worshiping trees and rivers. He welcomed students to plant trees in memory of their mothers, encouraging responsibility toward nature.

PM Modi concluded by advising students to live in the present, believe in themselves, and always work on bettering themselves. He stated that exams are merely a phase of life, and success is achieved through the development of personal abilities, positive thinking, and being self-motivated.

The post Wisdom for the Youth: PM Modi’s Life-Learning Advice to Students first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

The image, shared by the popular X handle Modi Archive, shows a young Narendra Modi sitting on the floor with fellow NCC cadets, highlighting his early association with the esteemed youth organisation.

The post by Modi Archive stated, “A young NCC cadet, now India’s PM! Can you spot him in this picture?” It identified Modi as the cadet sitting on the floor, first from the left.

The resurfaced image gained additional significance as PM Modi, in his Mann ki Baat radio programme earlier in the day, urged India’s youth to join the NCC, emphasizing its role in fostering qualities essential for personal and professional success. The Prime Minister described his own experience in the NCC as invaluable, stating that it had profoundly influenced his development.

Highlighting the benefits of joining the NCC, PM Modi shared, “The organisation instils discipline, leadership, and a sense of service in the youth.” He noted that a campaign is actively encouraging youths living in border areas to become part of the NCC.

Sharing insights into the organisation’s growth, the Prime Minister revealed that membership numbers have surged. “In 2014, around 14 lakh youths were part of NCC. This year, more than two lakh youths joined,” he said.

PM Modi also celebrated the increasing participation of female cadets in the NCC. “Earlier, girl cadets constituted nearly 25 per cent of the total membership. Today, their representation has grown to around 40 per cent,” he noted.

He further stated that over 5,000 schools and colleges across the country are now affiliated with the NCC, reflecting its expanding reach and influence.

The NCC, which was established in 1948, observes its Raising Day on the fourth Sunday of November each year. It is the largest uniformed youth organisation in the world, operating under the motto “Unity and Discipline.”

The organisation has long been recognised for its role in shaping the character and skills of young Indians, equipping them to serve the nation with integrity and dedication.

The post PM Modi’s Old NCC Cadet Photo Resurfaces first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
