India’s Operation Sindoor has sent ripples through the region’s strategic landscape, according to John Spencer, Chair of Urban Warfare Studies at the Modern War Institute in New York. In a recent video interview, Spencer, who is also a military scholar, combat veteran, and noted security analyst, emphasized that India’s actions during the operation reflect a clear evolution in its military doctrine.

Launched on May 7, Operation Sindoor was India’s measured response to the Pahalgam terror attack, targeting terror infrastructure both in Pakistan Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) and deeper into Pakistan. The operation, according to Spencer, wasn’t just about military retaliation—it was about sending a message. India demonstrated not just the capability to strike with precision, but also the restraint to avoid unnecessary destruction, making this a display of strategic maturity.

Spencer pointed out that India’s approach has changed the rules of engagement in the region. He stressed that military doctrines are often defined not just by words but by actions, and Operation Sindoor showcased India’s proactive, precision-oriented strategy. By involving experts from military, media, and think tanks, India signaled a doctrinal shift that Spencer believes will reshape South Asia’s security landscape.

The operation also tested India’s joint defense architecture, highlighting coordination between services and a focus on strategic foresight. Despite escalating tensions, India maintained control over the situation, even as global powers, including the United States, urged for de-escalation. Spencer noted that the strikes on locations like Noor Khan and Muridke were carefully selected to demonstrate capability rather than cause widespread devastation.

According to Spencer, India showed the world that it possesses both the means and the will to act decisively when national security is at stake. However, the calibrated nature of the strikes made it clear that India’s goal was deterrence, not destruction. This balance between strength and restraint reflects a new era of strategic independence and leadership for India in the global defense arena.

The post John Spencer: Operation Sindoor Alters India’s Doctrine first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

During a military technology event hosted by FICCI, India’s Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Capability Development & Sustenance), Lt Gen Rahul R Singh, revealed that China actively supported Pakistan with real-time intelligence during Operation Sindoor. He said that while Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level discussions were underway, Pakistan had startlingly accurate knowledge of India’s deployments—insights they received from Chinese surveillance.

According to Lt Gen Singh, Pakistan specifically referred to India’s prepared military vectors and requested their withdrawal—clear proof of Chinese involvement. He stated that during Operation Sindoor, India was effectively up against three adversaries: Pakistan at the frontline, with China supplying intelligence and military hardware, and Turkey providing combat drones like Bayraktar.

Singh highlighted that a significant portion—about 81%—of Pakistan’s defense equipment is sourced from China. This dynamic, he noted, allows China to field-test its weapons in real combat conditions using Pakistan as a proxy, effectively turning the subcontinent into a live weapons testing ground.

Lt Gen Singh further warned that in any future conflict, Pakistan might directly target Indian population centers—something that did not occur in the last skirmish but remains a serious concern going forward.

He also detailed strategic aspects of Operation Sindoor, explaining how military decisions were made using advanced data analytics and human intelligence. Out of 21 potential targets, nine were selected just hours before the operation commenced, signaling precise and adaptive planning.

The operation involved a coordinated effort from all three branches of India’s armed forces, emphasizing India’s commitment to joint warfare. Lt Gen Singh praised the ceasefire that followed as a calculated move to halt hostilities after achieving key objectives. He underscored the importance of strategic control, stating, “It’s easy to start a war, but far harder to control its consequences.”

Concluding his remarks, Singh reaffirmed India’s current doctrine: any future provocations would be met with decisive, punitive measures. Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, claimed by The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has firmly rejected claims made by US President Donald Trump regarding Washington’s alleged role in brokering the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Speaking in Washington DC on Thursday, Jaishankar clarified that the ceasefire agreement, which came after intense cross-border military escalation in May, was entirely the result of direct communication between the two countries’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs).

Refuting Trump’s repeated assertions that US-led trade diplomacy helped ease tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad, Jaishankar said, “The record of what happened at that time was very clear and the ceasefire was something which was negotiated between the DGMOs of the two countries.” He refrained from further elaboration, stating, “I will leave it at that.”

The military escalation referred to began after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, striking multiple terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

During a recent fireside chat, Jaishankar recalled being present during a phone call on May 9 between US Vice President Vance and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said Vance warned that Pakistan was preparing for a large-scale attack unless India conceded to certain demands. However, PM Modi made it clear that India would not yield to pressure, indicating a swift and strong response if provoked.

Jaishankar noted that Pakistan did carry out a significant offensive that same night. India responded immediately, and by the next morning, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio contacted Jaishankar, saying that Pakistan was ready to negotiate. This rapid turnaround led to the mutual ceasefire agreement being finalized.

On May 10, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri publicly announced that the Pakistani DGMO had reached out to his Indian counterpart, leading both sides to halt all hostilities across land, air, and sea.

Despite Trump’s insistence that his administration’s trade tactics played a key role in diffusing the conflict, Indian officials have consistently maintained that the ceasefire was achieved solely through bilateral military channels, without third-party mediation.

The post Jaishankar Counters Trump’s India-Pak Ceasefire Talk first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Jaishankar praised India’s all-party delegation that traveled to 33 countries after Operation Sindoor as part of a global outreach campaign. Calling the experience “a great source of pride,” Jaishankar emphasized the unified stance all political parties took in defense of the nation’s interests and against terrorism.

He noted that representatives like Shashi Tharoor, Supriya Sule, Kanimozhi, Sanjay Jha, Jay Panda, Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Shrikant Shinde set aside political differences to speak with one voice. According to Jaishankar, the world was impressed that despite internal politics, India presented a united front. The delegation delivered a clear message: terrorism is intolerable, and India reserves the right to protect itself if such threats persist.

In a press interaction in New Delhi, Jaishankar contrasted this national unity with Congress’s history, specifically referencing the 1975 Emergency. He criticized it as a moment when one family’s interests were prioritized over the country’s. He also took aim at current opposition leaders who brandish the Constitution but fail, in his view, to respect it genuinely. “Holding the Constitution in your hand means nothing unless it’s honored in spirit,” he said.

Addressing Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Qingdao for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Jaishankar explained the bloc’s foundational purpose—to counter terrorism. He disclosed that during the discussion of the outcome document at the Defense Ministers’ Meeting, one country objected to referencing the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. India firmly opposed the exclusion.

Jaishankar commended Rajnath Singh’s decision not to sign the final declaration, reinforcing India’s firm position. He stated that since the SCO works through consensus, India’s refusal to endorse a statement that ignored terrorism was justified. “When an organization is created to fight terrorism, and one country refuses to acknowledge a major attack, how can you support that?” he added.

Jaishankar reaffirmed that India’s global diplomacy is currently guided by placing national interest above politics. The bipartisan outreach efforts and principled stances at international forums show the country’s commitment to fighting terrorism and defending its sovereignty.

The post Jaishankar Proudly Notes Global Reach of Operation Sindoor first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Referring to the success of Operation Sindoor, he stated that no terrorist who spills Indian blood would find a safe haven. According to Modi, the operation was a powerful example of India’s evolving defense strategy, where national interest drives decision-making.

The Prime Minister emphasized that India’s reliance on foreign defense imports is steadily declining. During Operation Sindoor, Indian armed forces reportedly compelled their adversaries to surrender within just 22 minutes—using entirely domestically made weapons. He expressed pride in India’s increasing defense capabilities and envisioned a future where Made-in-India weapons gain international prestige.

Modi was addressing a gathering commemorating the 100th anniversary of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru, which took place at Sivagiri Mutt in Kerala in 1925. Calling the meeting a beacon of inspiration for today’s India, Modi praised Guru’s teachings of social harmony, truth, and selfless service, values he said remain deeply embedded in India’s development philosophy.

He further said that Guru’s principles influenced the government’s “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” vision—promoting inclusive growth with a focus on those at society’s margins. Modi also noted his longstanding spiritual connection with the saints of Sivagiri Math and mentioned that Varkala, often referred to as the “Kashi of the South,” shares deep cultural ties with his own spiritual base in Kashi.

Sree Narayana Guru’s message of “One caste, one religion, one God for mankind” was highlighted as a guiding light for a discrimination-free society. Modi claimed his government is working to eliminate inequality through targeted welfare programs for marginalized communities including women, tribals, and Dalits.

The Prime Minister concluded by urging that Guru’s vision—centered on education, unity, and economic strength—should reach every citizen. He underscored that a truly empowered India must lead not just in economic and military terms, but also in social cohesion and moral clarity.

The post PM Modi Hails Operation Sindoor, Honors Guru’s Legacy first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Writing in The Hindu, Tharoor acknowledged Modi’s enthusiasm, assertive global engagement, and dynamic presence as assets that deserve broader support from within India.

He described the post-Operation Sindoor diplomatic campaign as a demonstration of national will and strategic communication, emphasizing that such outreach efforts helped strengthen India’s stance on international platforms. Tharoor, who led a multi-party delegation abroad to explain India’s position, highlighted how a unified national voice, despite political diversity, sent a powerful message to the world.

He stated that the delegation’s make-up—comprising MPs from multiple parties, regions, and religious backgrounds—reflected a shared national stand against terrorism. Their mission was to present India’s military response as an act of self-defense against continuous cross-border threats, and the feedback from global capitals showed clear support for India’s narrative.

Tharoor also revealed that while a Pakistani delegation was visiting the United States at the same time, American officials were noticeably receptive to India’s message. He said they echoed Indian concerns and urged Islamabad to take action against groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.

In his remarks, Tharoor emphasized that India seeks peace and progress, and that terrorism is a hindrance to national development. “We don’t want war; we want to focus on growth. But if attacked, we will respond forcefully,” he said.

Reflecting on the broader implications for foreign policy, Tharoor underlined the importance of India’s “three Ts”: technology, trade, and tradition. He urged that India’s global image should be that of a country offering innovative solutions, rooted in its cultural strengths, and committed to meaningful global contributions.

Despite his occasional disagreements with his party’s leadership, Tharoor reaffirmed his loyalty to the Congress while continuing to support national interests and bipartisan unity on matters of foreign policy and national security.

The post Tharoor Backs PM Modi’s Diplomatic Push on Terror first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Speaking from the Northern Command Headquarters in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, Singh said any future terror acts targeting Indian soil will bring grave repercussions for the aggressors.

While addressing soldiers on International Yoga Day, Singh emphasized that the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians lost their lives, wasn’t merely an act of terrorism — it was also an attempt to fracture India’s social and communal harmony. Operation Sindoor, India’s coordinated military response, was a clear retaliation aimed at dismantling terror networks in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during the night of May 6–7.

“We’ve shattered Pakistan’s misguided doctrine of ‘a thousand cuts’,” Singh stated, referring to Islamabad’s long-standing low-intensity warfare policy against India. “Through Operation Sindoor, we made it clear that India is more than ready to confront and eliminate terrorism in any form.”

He asserted that Operation Sindoor was not just retaliatory, but a strategic message: “Terrorism will not go unanswered, and consequences will escalate for each act against us.” According to Singh, India halted its strikes only after Pakistan pleaded and was forced to retreat, demonstrating the effectiveness of the campaign.

Singh also honored the bravery of soldiers like Major Somnath Sharma and Brigadier Mohammad Usman, noting their sacrifices as testaments to India’s commitment to unity and integrity. “Pakistan seeks to break us from within,” he said, “but the spirit of our martyrs reinforces our resolve.”

Flanked by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Singh shifted the focus to yoga — a symbol of unity — aligning it with India’s cultural strength and national security. “Yoga means connection — with our nation, with our values, and with each other,” he explained. “True security is built not only through defense but through unity in thought and society.”

Singh encouraged the public to embrace yoga not just as a wellness tool but as a cultural force that brings people together — a practice that strengthens the very fabric of the country. He concluded by reaffirming that India’s stance on terrorism remains uncompromising and future provocations will meet with resolute and proportionate force.

The post Rajnath: Sindoor Shows Pak’s ‘1,000 Cuts’ Will Fail first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Imtiaz Gul, a widely known security expert, has asserted that the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi—one of Pakistan’s most strategically sensitive military facilities—is effectively under the control of American forces.

This statement, made public through a video circulating across social platforms, comes on the heels of India’s Operation Sindoor, a precision military response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. India’s coordinated strike targeted several Pakistani air bases, including the Nur Khan facility, raising critical questions about regional security and sovereignty.

According to Gul, even top-ranking officers in the Pakistan Army are reportedly restricted from intervening in the operations conducted at the Nur Khan airbase. The implication is that Pakistan may have entered into an undisclosed agreement with the United States, allowing American forces to operate on their soil with minimal oversight. While these claims remain unverified by official sources, their impact on public sentiment and strategic dialogue has been significant.

Gul also noted the recurring presence of U.S. aircraft at the base. While sightings are frequent, there is little to no information regarding their cargo, missions, or operational mandates. This level of secrecy has sparked growing concerns over Pakistan’s transparency and control over its military infrastructure, especially given the airbase’s proximity to Islamabad and the Pakistan Army’s General Headquarters.

The Nur Khan base plays a vital role in Pakistan’s defense architecture. Not only does it serve as a command center for military air mobility and transport, but it also lies near facilities that supervise the country’s nuclear capabilities. With such high stakes, any suggestion of foreign dominance over the area carries deep implications for national security.

India’s attack on the Nur Khan airbase during Operation Sindoor further intensified scrutiny. The retaliatory strikes, aimed at eliminating terror networks and infrastructure, reportedly inflicted damage on the facility, although official details remain scarce.

Neither the Pakistani military nor the government has issued a formal response to Gul’s claims, leaving room for rampant speculation. The lack of denial only deepens the mystery around whether a bilateral understanding exists between Islamabad and Washington regarding control over this critical base.

As the debate grows, citizens and security analysts alike are left wondering: Who really governs one of Pakistan’s most vital air bases, and what does that mean for the nation’s sovereignty and strategic independence?

The post Nur Khan Airbase Under U.S. Control, Claims Expert first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

It wasn’t just a display of military precision or geopolitical resolve—it symbolized the operational maturity and rising self-confidence of India’s indigenous defense industry. For the first time in independent India’s history, domestically produced weapons and systems were at the forefront of both offensive and defensive operations, heralding a new era of self-reliance in national security.

During the four-day campaign, indigenously manufactured systems such as the BrahMos missile, Sky Striker drones, Akash surface-to-air missile systems, and the Drone-Detect, Deter, and Destroy (D4) counter-UAV platform demonstrated remarkable effectiveness. These systems worked in tandem with India’s Integrated Air Combat and Control System (IACCS) and the newly deployed Akashteer network, offering a robust shield against Pakistani missile and drone attacks. While imported systems like the French Rafale fighters, SCALP missiles, and the S-400 defense system certainly contributed, it was the performance of Indian-made systems that stole the spotlight—a feat acknowledged with pride by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his national address on May 12.

The achievements of Operation Sindoor are the result of long-term investments by successive governments in developing India’s domestic defense capabilities. However, the significant boost has come post-2014 under the Make in India initiative, which actively invited private sector participation and emphasized reducing dependence on foreign arms suppliers. The once heavily import-dependent sector is now making confident strides toward self-sufficiency, supported by reforms in procurement, R&D policies, and defense exports.

India’s defense production has seen an impressive jump from approximately $888.65 million in 2016–17 to nearly $1.75 billion in 2024–25. Of this, the private sector now contributes about $384 million, or 22%, a dramatic rise considering private firms were prohibited from manufacturing arms just a couple of decades ago. Moreover, India’s defense exports have grown sixteen-fold in the same period—from approximately $18.26 million in 2016–17 to approximately $283.46 million in 2024–25. Today, over 100 Indian companies export military equipment to more than 100 countries. Products such as the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher, Dornier aircraft, armored vehicles, artillery systems, and patrol vessels are now part of India’s rapidly expanding defense export basket.

However, despite these commendable achievements, India must continue to strive for more. The security landscape in South Asia remains volatile, and adversaries such as China and Pakistan continue to modernize their military capabilities aggressively. To sustain momentum, India must significantly ramp up its defense research and development (R&D), streamline procurement processes, and strengthen institutional frameworks.

Currently, India’s defense R&D—spearheaded primarily by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)—receives less than 4% of the Ministry of Defence’s budget. In turn, this defense allocation is itself less than 2% of India’s GDP. This dual constraint of a limited defense budget and a negligible R&D share has hampered India’s ability to execute large-scale indigenous projects in a timely and efficient manner.

To overcome this, experts and strategists have long advocated for increasing defense spending to at least 2.5% of GDP in the medium term, eventually rising to 3%. Furthermore, the defense R&D budget must be doubled, with a mandated 25% earmarked for the private sector—a policy announced in the Union Budget of 2022–23 that now needs to be implemented effectively. The proposal would not only boost innovation but also incentivize startups and SMEs working on next-generation defense technologies.

Institutional support must go hand-in-hand with political will. India’s previous successes—in space exploration and nuclear submarine development—have shown that when national projects receive direct attention and monitoring at the highest levels, outcomes tend to exceed expectations. Applying this model to defense, a select list of critical R&D programs—such as the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), hypersonic missile systems, a next-gen aero engine for stealth aircraft, long-range drones, and beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles—should be monitored under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister’s Office.

The approval of the AMCA execution model, the DRDO-BEL mobile air defense system project, and continuous refinement of the Defense Acquisition Manual are positive signs that institutional mechanisms are evolving. However, success will ultimately depend on timely execution, transparent oversight, and sustained funding. India must also continue to ease the path for private firms by ensuring predictable policy frameworks, faster clearances, and open access to testing and prototyping infrastructure.

Operation Sindoor was not merely a military operation—it was a statement of intent. It validated the readiness, precision, and effectiveness of Indian-made defense platforms under real-world battle conditions. It also conveyed a clear message to both adversaries and allies: India has transformed from a passive buyer in the global arms market to a rising power capable of both developing and deploying cutting-edge systems.

This coming-of-age moment should now be used as a springboard. With the right mix of strategic investment, bureaucratic reforms, and political leadership, India has the opportunity to transform itself into not just a self-reliant military power but also a trusted global defense exporter.

The path ahead is clear. Operation Sindoor has lit the spark—now it is time to turn that spark into a blaze of sustained progress and innovation.

The post The Rise of India’s Indigenous Military Power first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Held in the wake of Op Sindoor, this structured engagement aims to harness the collective wisdom of past leadership to guide the Army’s evolving strategy and modernization efforts.

General Dwivedi extended a warm welcome to the attending veterans, emphasizing the vital role their experience plays in refining the Army’s long-term vision. A central theme of the conclave was a detailed operational review of Op Sindoor, a recent high-stakes military operation that saw seamless collaboration between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The comprehensive briefing showcased the operation’s execution, strategic outcomes, and the exemplary coordination that characterized this tri-service success.

According to the official statement, the interaction aimed to offer former chiefs contextual insights into India’s current defense landscape. By sharing critical mission details and inviting feedback, the Army leadership sought to ensure that institutional knowledge continues to shape India’s defense preparedness.

Beyond the battlefield, discussions focused on the Army’s modernization drive. The agenda included updates on the introduction of niche defense technologies, improvements in force mobility, and ongoing efforts to enhance combat readiness in alignment with emerging threats. Technological innovation was underscored as a key enabler for future capabilities.

Another major theme of the conclave was the Indian Army’s alignment with the national development vision of Viksit Bharat, emphasizing its contribution not just to national defense but also to broader nation-building goals. Topics such as technology absorption, infrastructure support, and cross-sector collaboration with other government agencies were part of the dialogue.

Former Army chiefs actively participated in the session, offering valuable advice based on years of operational command and policy-making experience. Their contributions are expected to shape new frameworks for leadership development, operational restructuring, and integrated defense planning.

The Chiefs’ Chintan reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to maintaining operational excellence while preparing for the demands of future warfare. By bridging generations of leadership, the initiative strengthens institutional continuity and sets a forward-looking course for India’s defense strategy in a rapidly changing global environment.

The post Indian Army, Ex-Chiefs Unite to Review Op Sindoor first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
