This event occurred around 14:42 IST on Wednesday, according to ISRO’s statement. Chandrayaan 3, India’s third lunar mission, successfully launched on July 14, and its Vikram lander, along with the Pragyan Rover, achieved a controlled landing on the moon’s surface on August 23. Following ten days of lunar exploration, the lander and rover entered a sleep mode, while the propulsion module continued orbiting the moon.

ISRO confirmed that the rocket body, identified as NORAD id 57321, was part of the launch vehicle responsible for injecting the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into its intended orbit. This orbit had a range of 133 km x 35823 km with a 21.3-degree inclination, and the re-entry occurred within 124 days of the launch. Importantly, ISRO emphasized that this re-entry adhered to the “25-year rule” recommended by the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee for Low Earth Orbit objects.

After launching Chandrayaan-3, the upper stage underwent “passivation” to remove any remaining propellant and energy sources. This passivation process aims to minimize the risk of accidental explosions and aligns with space debris mitigation guidelines outlined by the United Nations and IADC (Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee). ISRO’s commitment to adhering to international guidelines for the passivation and post-mission disposal of the rocket body reaffirms India’s dedication to ensuring the long-term sustainability of outer space activities.

Chandrayaan 3’s upper stage re-entry confirmed.

ISRO ensures adherence to space debris guidelines.

Uncontrolled re-entry concludes in the North Pacific Ocean.

Success of India’s third lunar mission noted.

Lunar mission’s propulsion module continues orbiting the moon.

The venture is aimed at global customers and will build on Bansal’s success in Indian e-commerce. An article in Newsbreak describes how Bansal has hired 15 AI experts for the new startup, set to launch its services in the coming months from its base in Bangalore and HQ in Singapore. The main thrust of the business is the provision of AI talent, products and services to businesses, following the model of outsourcing providers such as Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys.

The operation will be based in Bengaluru but has plans to expand to the US. One article source notes a growing trend in which corporations are looking for ways to use AI for improved operations. Bansal’s startup looks set to capitalize on this trend, especially in courses of data analytics and emerging tools, such as DeepAI’s ChatGPT chatbot. The company plans to focus on training up new AI talent in India’s smaller, less expensive cities, and will target legal and e-commerce industries first before branching out to finance and data analytics.

There is no official comment on whether Bansal has plans to offer any additional services, but the aim is to have products and services available to the public by the second half of 2024. Bansal has not shared any specifics on the new business but is looking at India’s vast English-speaking, youthful population as a source of untapped AI expertise. Ever since selling Flipkart to Walmart, he has been investing in tech startups. Both he and co-founder Sachin Bansal worked at Amazon.com before founding Flipkart.

The company, known for assembling iPhones, plans to establish a smartphone component manufacturing unit, contributing $350 million. A second plant, with an additional $250 million investment, will focus on chipmaking tools in partnership with Applied Materials.

Karnataka’s Minster for Large & Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development, M B Patil, confirmed the developments, revealing they followed discussions between Foxconn chairman Young Liu and Karnataka’s IT Minister Priyank Kharge.

The Indian blind women’s football team has officially qualified for the World Championship to be held in Birmingham in August, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the country.

Eight visually impaired women were the ones who accomplished this remarkable feat. The Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF), the sole authorized organization for official blind football activities in India, dedicated ten years of relentless effort to reach this point. Over the years, IBFF successfully conducted seven national championships for men and three for women.

This achievement is groundbreaking as it will be the first time India participates with both a football team and a para women’s team in the World Championship. This historic moment embodies the empowerment of women and the differently abled, showcasing their talents and determination on the global stage.

IBFF has been actively organizing orientation and training camps throughout the country to discover new talents and enhance the skills of existing players. With blind football being played in 24 states, India now has 15 NGOs and 13 state bodies affiliated with IBFF. In 2023, nearly 800 players were identified at the national level, out of which 661 players registered for various zonal and national level tournaments.

Sunil J Mathew, the national coach and sporting director, expressed his joy at this remarkable moment and acknowledged the challenges faced during the coaching period. Despite seeking financial aid from the sports ministry, the response has been lacking, leading them to reach out to individuals and corporate groups across the country for support. They hope for future government assistance and extend their gratitude to those who have supported them thus far.

The journey for women’s blind football in India began in 2019, with camps, demo games, and mini-tournaments held in different states. The IBFF conducted the First National Women’s Tournament in Chennai in 2021 and the second in Pune in 2022. They also organized four zonal tournaments for women, involving 17 state teams. The National Championship for Women took place in Jamshedpur in May 2023, and potential players for the National Team were selected based on their performances in these events.

A selection camp held in June finalized the group of 20 blind players, 5 goalkeepers, and 3 coaches who would form the final team. Currently, the team is undergoing training in Kochi, preparing for their departure to the UK on August 12 for the World Championship.

The IBFF and the players have high hopes that this achievement will serve as a wake-up call for the Sports Ministry, emphasizing the importance of their support for the further progress and development of blind women’s football in India.
