Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called the incident a “barbaric attack” that claimed the lives of “newlyweds, children, and families simply seeking joy.” Taking to social media, he extended his solidarity, declaring, “Terror will never win. We grieve with India.”

The Peruvian Foreign Ministry also expressed strong condemnation and support, urging global efforts to eliminate terrorism, while Swedish MP Margareta Cederfelt, on behalf of the Swedish-Indian Parliamentary Friendship Group, stated there was “no justification” for such violence.

Reacting swiftly, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by PM Modi, initiated a range of historic measures targeting Pakistan’s links to the attack, believed to be orchestrated by a Pakistan-based group.

Key Diplomatic Measures Include:

Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty: India has put the 1960 water-sharing pact with Pakistan on hold until credible action is taken against terrorism.

Closure of Attari Border Crossing: The Integrated Check Post at Attari will be closed post-May 1, effectively halting land movement between the countries.

Cancellation of SAARC Visa Exemption: Pakistani nationals are barred from traveling to India under SVES; existing visas have been revoked.

Expulsion of Pakistani Diplomats: India has declared Pakistan’s military advisers in New Delhi as persona non grata, ordering them to leave within a week. Reciprocal withdrawals from Islamabad are also underway.

Reduction of Diplomatic Presence: Both countries’ high commissions will see their staff slashed nearly in half by May 1.

The CCS also acknowledged that the attack was likely an attempt to derail J&K’s electoral and developmental progress—developments seen as a threat by destabilizing forces.

PM Modi’s government has vowed justice for the victims and warned of continued actions until those responsible, and their sponsors, are held accountable. The move marks a hard shift in India’s diplomatic posture—toward isolating Pakistan globally until it ends its support for cross-border terror networks.

The post Terror Will Never Win: Rishi Sunak Condemns Pahalgam Attack first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

As detailed by the New York Times, Patel’s appearances at UFC matches, NHL games alongside Wayne Gretzky, and campaign rallies with former President Trump underscore his highly curated public image.

Contrasting the traditionally low-profile leadership of past directors, such as Louis Freeh, Robert Mueller, and Christopher Wray, Patel has leaned into media exposure. Former Director Freeh once wrote, “I had never sought publicity or the spotlight,” a sentiment far removed from Patel’s approach.

Patel has appeared in FBI recruitment videos in full camouflage gear amid hostage rescue training scenes, accompanied by rock music—a move that several current and former agents criticized as performative. He also maintains active social media profiles that both highlight the bureau’s achievements under his leadership and attack outlets like the Times for critical coverage.

One recurring concern involves Patel’s alleged use of government aircraft for personal reasons. Flight records indicate an FBI jet has made three trips to Nashville, home of his girlfriend, country singer Alexis Wilkins, 26. Though directors are required to use federal planes for security, ethical guidelines require them to repay the cost of personal travel at commercial rates. This echoes past scrutiny faced by Patel’s predecessor, when Senator Chuck Grassley condemned “jet-setting executive travel.”

The FBI declined to comment on Patel’s specific travel arrangements, citing security protocols, but insisted that ethical standards are strictly upheld.

Beyond image management, Patel has quickly altered the FBI’s structure, rolling back reforms implemented by Robert Mueller and suspending analyst Brian Auten—one of the names on Patel’s public list of supposed “deep state” figures. MSNBC reports that Patel has also explored opening a direct hotline between himself and President Trump, sparking concern about eroding the bureau’s traditional separation from political influence.

Patel’s confirmation stirred controversy from the start. Critics, including MSNBC’s Ja’han Jones, pointed to his history of amplifying conspiracy theories and his loyalty to Trump, claiming he had previously threatened to pursue Trump’s perceived opponents.

Despite strong support from allies like Deputy Director Dan Bongino, who emphasized rising recruitment and tangible results, concerns remain over the FBI’s autonomy, direction, and credibility both internally and externally.

With Patel continuing to lead in his own unconventional style, questions loom about how these changes will shape the FBI’s mission, internal culture, and public trust moving forward.

The post Kash Patel’s Bold Leadership Sparks Debate Within FBI first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

We often think of sustainability as a modern concept—a movement we’ve created in response to climate change and our fast-paced, disposable lifestyles. But the truth is, our older generation mastered sustainability long before it became a trend. They were experts at maximizing every resource, avoiding waste, and finding new life in old items.

Growing up, many of us watched our parents and grandparents save everything—from empty glass jars to plastic bags. They taught us to use items fully, hand them down, donate them, or creatively repurpose them. This practice is commendable, but it comes with a challenge: What happens when it’s time to downsize?

Our family experienced this dilemma firsthand when we realized it was no longer feasible for my father-in-law to manage his home in Gainesville, FL, by himself. My mother-in-law had passed away 15 years earlier, and my father-in-law was a retired professor. He had continued to stay involved in academics and frequently traveled internationally for work, so upkeep for his large home had fallen behind and became impractical. As a family, we agreed that a smaller home with social activities and freshly prepared meals would be a better fit.

Fortunately, through friends and family, we found a lovely Indian retirement community, ShantiNiketan, about 90 minutes away. He selected a brand-new sun-drenched corner unit that was being constructed and had the opportunity to select some of the finishes and make it his own.

Photo text: Downsizing – from a large custom home to a new retirement condo

The Move: More Than Just Logistics

The decision to move into a retirement community was made cautiously, as it was an unfamiliar path for our family. We visited the community, spoke with residents, and gradually grew confident that this new environment would offer the safe, social, and supportive setting he needed—and it did!

However, the logistics of the move were daunting. One challenge was that the condo unit was significantly smaller than the space he was used to. The retirement community’s 1,000 sq ft condo units are ground-level condos with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and an attached single-car garage. Perfect for a retiree, but not nearly enough space to hold 30+ years of memories and mementos from his 4,000 sq ft home.

In addition to the space constraints, we had time constraints. We were traveling down from Boston to Florida during summer vacation with our family of five, having just a week to clean out the large home and just under two days to set up the new space—it was overwhelming. Especially since I was determined to approach this task in an eco-friendly and respectful manner, honoring his legacy of resourcefulness.

The Art of Letting Go: Downsizing with Purpose

With a tight schedule, we had limited time to sort through decades of belongings. So, we took a triage approach, ensuring each item found a fitting new home.

Photo text: Cleaning out the home office – sometimes you have to start cleaning by making a mess

Here’s how we did it:

Photo text: Organizing – setting up designated staging areas to help with triaging

First, Set Aside What’s Essential: We identified which items would move with my father-in-law to his new condo. These belongings held immediate personal value or were necessary for his day-to-day life in the new space. We packed these items separately and set them aside for the local movers.

Second, Share with Family: Next, we considered which items he would not have space for but would have sentimental value within the family. We carefully boxed these family heirloom pieces and arranged for a national moving company to ship them out to each family member to whom he designated these pieces.

Third, Invite the Community: For the remaining items in good condition, we invited local friends, neighbors, contractors, and students to pick out any items they could use. This spontaneous ‘free yard sale’ was a way to give back to the community that had been a part of his life.

Fourth, Donate to Charity: The larger pieces and usable items that remained were donated. We found a local thrift store that worked with a moving company. Not only did they arrange for a truck for our furniture pick-up, they also agreed to come back again to collect the remaining mattresses on our last morning, so we could use them until our last night there. It felt good knowing these items would continue to serve others in need.

Finally, the Last Resort – Discard: Only the unusable or broken beyond-repair items were discarded. During this final step, we also tried to recycle as much as possible. For the rest of the items that remained, we rented a U-Haul truck and disposed of the remaining items at the county transfer station.

Photo text: Loading up the U-Haul – getting ready to take items to be disposed to the transfer station

While a large amount of trash disposal was inevitable, we did our best to use this 5 step process to minimize our footprint and prepare the house for the next owner.

Photo text: Cleaning out of the garage – take a deep breath and clean piece by piece

Balancing Sustainability and a New Perspective

Among seniors who are used to maximizing every resource, what may seem to be a positive sustainability practice may morph into hoarding, so it’s important to understand the difference. Hoarding stems from a fear of loss, while sustainability is valuing and using what we have wisely.

This downsizing experience taught us that while it’s okay to cherish memories, it’s also necessary to let go, especially when space, time, and practicality demand it. We must consciously choose what we hold on to and how we release the rest.

If you’re facing a similar journey with a loved one, remember that you can encourage an environmentally mindful approach to navigating and redefining what’s valuable, both in our homes and in our hearts.

This move signals a significant commitment to India’s burgeoning digital economy, which Miebach views as increasingly inclusive and beneficial for all players, including Mastercard.

In an exclusive interview with CNBC-TV18, Miebach underscored the robust startup ecosystem in India and the opportunities it presents for democratizing credit access. He highlighted Mastercard’s role in providing essential payment and data solutions, particularly emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape.

Key Highlights from the Interview:

Investment and Growth: Mastercard has invested $1 billion in India over the last five years and plans to expand its workforce significantly at the new Pune facility, which can accommodate 6,000 employees. This facility is a testament to India’s talent pool and the company’s long-standing presence in the country.

Startup Ecosystem: Miebach expressed excitement about India’s strong startup culture, especially in fintech, which thrives on government support, regulatory backing, and funding. He sees a vast opportunity to collaborate with Indian fintech firms to enhance payment solutions and credit accessibility.

Digital Economy Dynamics: Miebach remarked on the transformative impact of India’s digital economy, attributing part of its growth to initiatives like UPI (Unified Payments Interface), which he believes has expanded the market rather than posing a threat to traditional payment methods. He sees UPI and Mastercard’s offerings as complementary, each addressing different consumer needs.

Global Consumer Trends: Miebach noted that despite challenges such as elevated rates and prices, consumer spending remains resilient globally, particularly in the services sector. He observed a shift from goods to experiences, with strong growth in travel and leisure, indicating a robust service economy.

Miebach remains optimistic about Mastercard’s journey in India and the global fintech landscape. He views the partnership between public and private sectors as crucial for fostering innovation and ensuring cybersecurity in an increasingly digital world. As Mastercard continues to innovate and adapt, Miebach’s insights point to a promising future for both the company and the Indian fintech ecosystem.

The post Mastercard’s Global CEO Sees Bright Future in India’s Fintech Landscape first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

During a Reuters NEXT Newsmaker interview, Banga maintained an optimistic outlook regarding the implications for the World Bank should Trump secure victory in the upcoming presidential election on November 5.

Trump has often criticized multilateral organizations and their climate initiatives. At the same time, advocates of the conservative Project 2025 have proposed that the United States consider withdrawing from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. However, Trump has repeatedly distanced himself from the Project 2025 agenda.

“President Trump was the one who actually authorized a capital increase in the IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) during his tenure,” Banga noted, highlighting the World Bank’s primary lending entity.

Banga stated that Trump understands the value of framing discussions in terms that align with his administration’s goals. He emphasized that there are limited alternatives capable of leveraging $1 of government funding into $4 or $10 for development lending, which can cultivate new markets for both U.S. and global companies.

“He recognizes the leverage’s potential to yield greater returns on that investment,” Banga added. “Ultimately, if our development efforts abroad can bolster markets for American companies, that’s beneficial. Similarly, if European or Indian companies gain from this, it fosters the essential connections we desire.”

Banga also pointed out that the World Bank’s initiatives to create jobs in borrowing nations can help mitigate future migration and refugee issues. As an Indian-born American and former Mastercard CEO, Banga was nominated for the World Bank presidency by President Joe Biden. He concluded, “Finding ways to ensure our bank addresses developmental needs worldwide is vital and transcends any single administration.”

The post World Bank’s Ajay Banga on Trump’s Impact on International Lending first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

This marks the first time a designer has created a Diwali doll for Barbie Signature. Dongre’s creation seamlessly integrates modern design elements with traditional craftsmanship, highlighting Barbie’s influence in the global fashion scene.

The Barbie Diwali doll pays tribute to India’s rich cultural heritage by celebrating Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, which symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. The doll is dressed in a Moonlight Bloom ensemble featuring a choli top, a floral Koti vest, and a lehenga skirt adorned with dahlias, jasmine, and the Indian lotus—representing strength and beauty. The look is completed with golden bangles and shimmering earrings, reflecting the radiant lights associated with the festival.

Anita Dongre, through her esteemed fashion label, champions female empowerment and representation. Her brand has initiated programs to train tribal women in garment-making and has collaborated with government bodies and NGOs to create stable employment opportunities for skilled rural artisans. Dongre highlighted that in honor of Diwali, both she and Barbie are inviting fans globally to embrace the rich heritage of Indian fashion and culture. She mentioned that her brand has consistently aimed to empower individuals through fashion and that collaborating with Barbie to create the Barbie Diwali doll perfectly aligns with their shared values, as Barbie represents the ultimate symbol of women’s empowerment.

The post Barbie Launches First Diwali Doll in Collaboration with Anita Dongre first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the 21st century as the century of India and the ASEAN nations, emphasizing the significance of their friendship during a time of global conflicts and tensions. Speaking at the 21st India-ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos, he noted that the Act East Policy, announced a decade ago, has revitalized India’s historical relationships with ASEAN countries.

Modi described ASEAN nations as India’s neighbors and partners in the Global South, highlighting their shared commitment to peace, national integrity, and the future of the region’s youth. He referenced the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiatives launched in 2019, mentioning that maritime exercises aimed at ensuring regional security and stability had commenced last year. Modi also reported that trade between India and ASEAN has nearly doubled to over USD 130 billion in the past decade.

During the summit, he unveiled a 10-point action plan aimed at strengthening ties with ASEAN. This includes designating 2025 as the ‘ASEAN-India Year of Tourism,’ supported by a USD 5 million investment for collaborative activities. Modi announced plans to commemorate a decade of the Act East Policy through various initiatives, such as a Youth Summit, Start-up Festival, Hackathon, Music Festival, and the ASEAN-India Network of Think Tanks.

The action plan also features an ASEAN-India Women Scientists Conclave funded by the ASEAN-India Science and Technology Development Fund, a doubling of scholarships at Nalanda University, and new scholarships for ASEAN students in India’s agricultural universities. Additionally, Modi called for a review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement by 2025.

Other initiatives announced include enhancing disaster resilience with USD 5 million, establishing a new Health Ministers’ track for health resilience, and creating a regular ASEAN-India Cyber Policy Dialogue for bolstering digital and cyber resilience. He also proposed a workshop on Green Hydrogen and invited ASEAN leaders to participate in the ‘Plant a Tree for Mother’ campaign to promote climate resilience.

The post PM Modi: INDIA-ASEAN friendship vital amid global conflicts first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

This mission, unlike the earlier Chandrayaan missions, will be a joint effort between Isro and Japan, with the aim of exploring the Moon’s surface, particularly for water and other essential resources, while also advancing technology for human landings. The Union cabinet has already approved Chandrayaan-4, and the Lupex mission is awaiting final clearance, although Isro has the go-ahead to begin working on it.

According to Isro chairman S Somanath, the Lupex mission is crucial in progressing India’s long-term lunar goals, which include eventually sending humans to the Moon. Japan has committed to the mission by assigning a firm to develop the rover and allocating funds and a launcher. However, Lupex faced delays initially due to India’s inability to achieve a soft landing on the Moon with Chandrayaan-2. After the successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, Isro re-engineered the Lupex spacecraft, including developing a new lander engine capable of supporting future human landings.

The mission’s new lander will be heavier than previous designs and will carry a 350kg rover. Due to the rover’s size, Isro is exploring using a sky-crane mechanism to safely deploy the rover on the lunar surface. Looking ahead, Chandrayaan-5 is expected to follow soon after Lupex, with Isro exploring the technologies required to enable human landings on the Moon in future missions.

The post India clears 5th lunar mission Lupex, targeting moon landing! first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

On the other hand, Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transactions declined by 5% in volume, totaling 430 million, and decreased by 2% in value to Rs. 5.65 trillion (US$ 67.73 billion). Meanwhile, FASTag transactions also saw a 3% drop in volume, reaching 318 million, although their value slightly rose to Rs. 5,620 crore (US$ 673.70 million). The Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) maintained a steady volume of 100 million transactions, though its value dropped by 2% to Rs. 24,143 crore (US$ 2.89 billion). Collectively, these figures illustrate the dynamic nature of digital payments in India, with UPI standing out as the frontrunner.

The post UPI hits 500 million daily transactions; value stable in September. first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

These new slots will benefit tourists, skilled workers, and students, helping Indian applicants secure timely visa interviews, which play a vital role in strengthening US-India people-to-people ties.

Ajay Bhutoria, a member of the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian-Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, expressed his gratitude for the US Embassy’s efforts, particularly those of Ambassador Eric Garcetti, in addressing visa wait times. Bhutoria mentioned that this step reflects the success of his earlier recommendations submitted to the White House AANHPI commission. However, he noted that more work needs to be done to further streamline the visa process.

Bhutoria has been advocating for measures like increasing the number of appointments and exploring innovative solutions, including video interviews, to enhance accessibility and efficiency. He emphasized his ongoing commitment to improving the visa process to ensure smoother travel between the two countries.

The US Embassy in India reported a 35% rise in Indian travelers to the US in 2024, with over 1.2 million visits so far. Ambassador Garcetti highlighted that the promise made by Prime Minister Modi and President Biden to improve the visa process has been met. In 2023, the US also issued a record 140,000 student visas to Indians, marking the third consecutive year of setting new records.

The post US Expands 250,000 Visa Slots for Indian Travelers first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
