He emphasized a breakthrough in tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis through an innovative handheld X-ray device aimed at enhancing early detection and treatment. This new technology, developed collaboratively with IIT Kanpur, will be available at a significantly lower price, making it more accessible for screenings in communities, especially for vulnerable populations.

In addition to the TB advancements, Dr. Bahl announced the creation of three testing kits for Mpox, with local companies now producing these essential tools. The ICMR’s commitment to improving public health is evident, especially considering that more than a million individuals in India are impacted by sickle cell disease, which ranks as the second largest prevalence globally. To address this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission, which aims to eradicate this public health challenge by 2047.

The ICMR has been proactive in its efforts, recently organizing a collaborative session with medical professionals and scientists across the nation. Dr. Bahl reported a significant achievement with the development of 18 low-cost tests for sickle cell anemia, reducing the price per test from $5 to just $0.36.

Addressing the issue of dengue fever, which has claimed numerous lives in India, Dr. Bahl mentioned that a vaccine could be on the horizon. Currently, the ICMR is conducting phase three clinical trials for a dengue vaccine, with results expected in about a year. If proven safe and effective, this vaccine will be a pivotal addition to India’s public health arsenal. Through these initiatives, the ICMR demonstrates its dedication to improving health outcomes and enhancing the country’s overall public health infrastructure.

The post India Innovates: Handheld X-ray for TB Screening Unveiled first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

For the first time, an Indian American was in the spotlight to potentially become the spouse of the Vice President.

With Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee for President, this election presents a remarkable opportunity: regardless of the outcome, a woman of Indian descent will either take office as President or assume the role of Second Lady of the United States.

This development is significant, emphasizing the growing political influence of the Indian American community. Over the past ten years, this small but impactful group has emerged as a vital force in U.S. politics.

Despite making up only 1.5 percent of the population, Indian Americans constitute the largest and most politically engaged subgroup among Asian Americans. They have gained substantial representation within the U.S. administration, occupying over 4.4 percent of senior government roles.

While the Indian American community is well-known for its contributions to the tech sector, its political influence is also expanding. A key emerging voter demographic is Indian American farmers, who, although a smaller group, play an essential role in the economy. Their presence adds values of diversity and tolerance to the American social fabric.

A prominent community of Indian American farmers resides in Yuba City, California. For over a century, these farmers have cultivated peaches and prunes, significantly enriching the U.S. agricultural scene.

The origins of this community trace back to the early 1900s when Punjabi immigrants settled in Yuba City as farm workers. Over the years, they have developed into a prosperous community comprising successful farmers, business owners, and professionals.

Tejinder Singh Dosanjh, a Yuba City farmer, noted, “Most farmers here cultivate almonds, walnuts, and peaches, with prunes being a significant crop.”

Sarabjeet Singh Thiara highlighted that many early Indian immigrants traveled to Mexico, married local women, and eventually obtained U.S. citizenship before migrating to California. “They’ve made a substantial impact since their arrival,” Thiara remarked, underscoring the essential role Indian American farmers have played in the area’s agricultural advancement.

As generations have progressed, these immigrants have successfully blended into American society. American farmer Jeffery Flinn shared, “I have two Sikh neighbors. We coexist, support each other, and get along like good neighbors.”

Though many descendants have pursued careers in medicine, engineering, and business, an increasing number are returning to the family tradition of farming.

The post Indian Americans’ growing political sway in U.S. elections. first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

The discussions also aimed at pinpointing new avenues of collaboration in fields such as defense, renewable energy, and railways.

Both nations exchanged insights on regional, multilateral, and international issues of shared interest during this session, as outlined by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in a recent announcement. The Indian delegation was led by Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East), while the Colombian delegation was represented by Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jorge Enrique Rojas Rodriguez.

Throughout the FOC, both parties conducted a detailed assessment of their current bilateral relations, including sectors like trade and investment, energy infrastructure, health, traditional medicines, digital technology, space exploration, consular matters, and educational and cultural exchanges. The MEA noted the importance of enhancing people-to-people relations.

Following the consultations, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal shared on X that the discussions concentrated on evaluating the current state of relations and recognizing new opportunities for cooperation, particularly in defense and railway infrastructure.

Both countries expressed satisfaction with the advancements made in various areas and committed to deepening their existing collaborations while exploring fresh prospects. India and Colombia have maintained a long-standing diplomatic relationship since it was officially established on January 19, 1959. The two nations celebrated their 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2019, with Colombia opening its Embassy in New Delhi in 1972, followed by India’s embassy establishment in Colombia in 1973.

Over time, the partnership between India and Colombia has strengthened, leading to expanded cooperation in political, commercial, and cultural domains. The mechanism of Foreign Office Consultations, which began in 1995, serves as a platform for ongoing dialogue, with the previous meeting held virtually on May 7, 2021. The recent meeting in New Delhi marks a notable advancement in solidifying their dynamic and friendly relations.

The post Strengthening Ties: India and Colombia’s Strategic Dialogue first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

During the third quarter of 2024, the Indian tech sector witnessed deals amounting to US$ 635 million, representing a 31% year-on-year increase, according to the latest Dealtracker report by Grant Thornton Bharat. Despite this rise, deal volumes were the highest since Q2 2023 but marked the lowest for 2024, reflecting a trend towards more strategic investments rather than large acquisitions. Raja Lahiri, a Partner at Grant Thornton Bharat, attributed this growth to the recent interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve and India’s stable post-election environment, driving both deal value and volume upward. The third quarter saw 79 deals, with a 5% increase in volumes and a notable 31% rise in value compared to the prior quarter. Notably, 12 of these deals were valued at over US$ 20 million.

Merger and acquisition (M&A) activities made a strong recovery, with 26 deals in Q3 2024, marking a 44% sequential rise. Despite the significant rise in M&A volumes, values jumped by 205% to US$ 116 million, compared to US$ 38 million in the previous quarter, even as larger deals were fewer in number. Lahiri also noted that 65% of transactions did not disclose deal values, contributing to the lower overall valuation figures. Investor confidence in India remains robust, with several upcoming IPOs expected to offer strong exit opportunities. Additionally, the startup ecosystem saw a resurgence in funding, with a 62% increase in deal numbers and a 40% rise in funding value year-on-year.

The post Indian Tech Sector Witnesses US$ 635 Million in Q3 2024 Deals first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Speaking at the 3rd edition of the Kautilya Economic Conclave, Modi reaffirmed his commitment to implementing structural reforms that will help India achieve developed nation status by 2047.

He stated, “In the face of a global emergency, we come together to talk about the ‘Indian Era,’ symbolizing the increasing trust the world has in India. We are currently the fastest-growing economy in the world and hold the position of the fifth largest. Additionally, we lead the world in fintech adoption.”

Modi highlighted India’s position as the largest manufacturer of two-wheelers and tractors and the second largest manufacturer of mobile phones. He emphasized that “Reform, perform, and transform” is the guiding principle of his administration, noting that when people’s lives are improved, they develop faith in their nation, which is reflected in their electoral choices. He added, “The confidence of 1.4 billion Indians is our strength, and we are dedicated to instituting further structural reforms for India’s advancement.”

He also pointed to the importance of inclusivity in India’s growth narrative, mentioning that 250 million people have risen out of poverty over the past decade.

Modi outlined several achievements of his government, including enhancing the banking system, implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST), introducing the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, allowing private investment in the mining and defense sectors, liberalizing foreign direct investment (FDI), and reducing compliance burdens for businesses.

The post PM Modi: India is transforming to maintain high growth. first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Modi emphasized that terrorism has no place in the world and stressed the importance of preventing further escalation in the region. He also called for the safe release of all hostages, reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting efforts for an early restoration of peace and stability. His remarks were shared through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The conflict in West Asia has been intensifying since the abduction of Israeli citizens by Hamas in October last year. In response to attacks, Israel has expanded its retaliatory airstrikes, not only targeting Gaza but also Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon and Yemen’s Houthi rebels, who have also attacked Israel.

Israel has informed the United States about plans for a limited ground operation, according to reports from the Washington Post. Additionally, on Saturday, the Israeli army announced the elimination of Hezbollah’s leader, Nasrallah, during a strike on the group’s command headquarters in Beirut. This has prompted a strong reaction from hardliners in Iran, with calls for drastic actions against Israel, including the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the development of nuclear weapons.

In response, Netanyahu asserted that no place in the Middle East is beyond Israel’s reach. Meanwhile, Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati has appealed for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah during a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Beirut.

The post PM Modi to Netanyahu: “Terrorism Has No Place Here.” first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
