India has emerged as the leading destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), now home to over 1,800 centers serving more than 1,400 global companies, according to a recent report by JLL India. Since 2022, the country has added more than 100 new GCCs, reinforcing its significance in the global operations of multinational firms.

The GCC sector now occupies over 240 million square feet of Grade A office space across the seven largest cities in India. Bengaluru, often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of India,” is at the forefront, accounting for 42% of the total office space used by GCCs. The city’s booming tech scene, prestigious educational institutions, and diverse work culture make it an attractive destination for global talent.

This expansion emphasizes India’s increasing clout in the global business ecosystem. In the past 18 months alone, between January 2023 and June 2024, GCCs have leased a massive 35.2 million square feet of office space. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai together accounted for 75% of this leasing activity, demonstrating the region’s appeal due to its advanced infrastructure, skilled workforce, and favorable business environment.

Three main industries dominate the GCC sector in India—Manufacturing, IT/ITES (Information Technology and Information Technology Enabled Services), and BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance)—which collectively hold 78% of the space occupied by GCCs.

Looking ahead, the outlook for India’s GCC sector remains bright, as GCCs represent roughly half of the active office space requirements in the country’s key cities. These centers are evolving from cost-effective back offices into innovation hubs, positioning India to play an even greater role in global digital transformation. With its vast talent base, robust infrastructure, and supportive government policies, India continues to strengthen its status as the world’s foremost destination for GCCs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan, Russia, during the upcoming BRICS Summit. The two leaders have not had an official meeting in five years. This interaction comes after India and China reached an agreement to resume regular patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, signaling a step towards resolving long-standing tensions.

The leaders’ previous meetings, including the Mahabalipuram Summit in 2019 and informal talks in Wuhan in 2018, focused on stabilizing bilateral relations and addressing regional issues. The upcoming meeting in Kazan is seen as a crucial step toward restoring peace along the LAC and ensuring long-term stability in India-China relations. In its October monthly report, OPEC noted that India’s economic growth eased slightly to 6.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2024, down from 7.8% in the first quarter. This deceleration was mainly caused by a reduction in government spending during the election period. U.S. Representatives John Moolenaar and Raja Krishnamoorthi have called for a closed-door briefing with executives from Verizon, AT&T, and LumenTech following reports of a cyber attack believed to be sponsored by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

The Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party shared this request in a post on X, emphasizing the need for the telecom giants to brief the committee on the situation.

This initiative comes after an October 5 report from the Wall Street Journal revealed that the cyber attack had breached the networks of multiple U.S. broadband providers, potentially compromising systems related to court-authorized wiretapping requests. The report raises serious national security concerns, indicating that hackers may have gained extended access to vital network infrastructure.

A senior U.S. intelligence official, cited in The Washington Post, noted that such access allows the CCP to identify targets of interest to the U.S. government, potentially undermining intelligence efforts or spreading disinformation.

The hacking group believed to be responsible for this breach is identified as Salt Typhoon, which has ties to China’s Ministry of State Security. Earlier this year, the Select Committee also addressed threats from another Chinese hacking unit, Volt Typhoon, which had successfully infiltrated critical U.S. infrastructure.

The Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party was established to confront the challenges posed by the CCP to the U.S. and its allies. It investigates issues related to espionage, trade, technology theft, and human rights abuses, while also overseeing U.S. policies to ensure alignment with national security interests.

On the other hand, Donald Trump has positioned himself as a champion of both the ultra-wealthy and working-class Americans, attracting considerable backing from 49 billionaires. Notable supporters of Trump include Miriam Adelson of Las Vegas Sands Corp., Don Ahern from Las Vegas construction, Diane Hendricks of ABC Supply, Linda McMahon from WWE, and Steve Wynn of Wynn Resorts. Another 16 billionaires have contributed between $50,000 and $999,999, including Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta, Paulson & Co. founder John Paulson, and Siebel Systems founder Thomas Siebel. Trump’s billionaire supporters also include Elon Musk, who has actively campaigned for him, appearing at rallies and encouraging swing state voters through his political action committee.

While many billionaires have openly declared their support for either candidate, others are choosing to remain neutral for the time being. Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder, praised Trump’s resilience following a personal incident but has not publicly endorsed a candidate. Warren Buffett, a known Democrat, has opted to stay quiet during this election cycle. Mark Zuckerberg reportedly had private discussions with Trump but has not yet endorsed anyone. Vivek Ramaswamy, the Indian-origin entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate who recently withdrew to support Donald Trump, has proposed a controversial solution to the United States’ immigration challenges.
