India and Japan have discussed opportunities to further strengthen cooperation in communications, digital technology and artificial intelligence, reflecting the growing importance of emerging technologies in their bilateral relationship.

The discussions took place during a meeting between India’s Ambassador to Japan, Nagma Mallick, and Hideo Fuseida, Director General for International Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, in Tokyo. The two officials exchanged views on expanding collaboration across communications, digital technologies and AI.

The latest engagement comes amid broader efforts by India and Japan to deepen cooperation in advanced technologies. The two countries have identified artificial intelligence, information and communication technology, semiconductors and other emerging areas as important components of their economic and technological partnership.

India and Japan have also been working to strengthen cooperation in AI through strategic dialogues and research partnerships. A joint statement issued in July 2026 highlighted areas including AI governance, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, computing resources, semiconductors and collaboration among government, industry and academia.

The communications sector has remained another important area of bilateral cooperation. Earlier initiatives have included collaboration on 5G, Open RAN, telecom network security, quantum communications and other emerging technologies. Both countries have also explored opportunities for joint projects and technological development under their broader ICT cooperation framework.

The latest discussion therefore adds to a wider India-Japan technology partnership that extends beyond traditional economic cooperation. Continued engagement in communications, digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence could create opportunities for research, innovation and industry collaboration between the two countries.

The post India, Japan Discuss Cooperation in Communications and AI first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Photo Courtsey – X.com

A growing constitutional battle over press freedom has erupted at the Executive Mansion following President Trump’s decision to ban journalists from CNN, MS Now, and Politico from White House grounds.

The decision has triggered broad industry pushback, immediate legal action, and a unified boycott from major broadcast networks, significantly overshadowing routine White House operations. While media organizations like the Global Indian News Network (GINN) adjust their political reporting operations in response, the central focus remains fixed on the administration’s unprecedented crackdown on press credentials.

The Access Ban and Administrative Justification

The conflict began when President Trump announced via social media that reporters from CNN, MS Now, and Politico would be barred from the White House, accusing the organizations of delivering “fake news” and critical coverage. By the following day, Secret Service officers had deactivated entry badges and denied White House access to reporters from all three outlets.

In official statements, the administration defended the move, asserting that White House press access is a privilege rather than a right and arguing that the executive branch is not obligated to host news outlets it deems hostile.

Legal Challenges and First Amendment Precedent

In response, CNN, MS Now, and Politico filed a joint federal lawsuit against the administration, citing severe violations of First Amendment protections. Legal experts and press freedom advocates point to long-standing judicial precedent—including the 1977 landmark ruling Sherrill v. Knight—which establishes that while the White House is not obligated to open its facilities to everyone, once credentials are offered, they cannot be revoked arbitrarily based on content or viewpoint discrimination.

Media law analysts emphasize that targeting specific news organizations for critical reporting sets a dangerous precedent that jeopardizes independent journalism as a whole.

Industry Boycott and Press Pool Response

The administration’s actions triggered a swift, coordinated response across the news industry:

TV Pool Boycott: Major broadcast networks—including ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News—suspended their participation in the joint video pool that provides footage of presidential events to news organizations worldwide.

Photo Pool Withholding: Leading news outlets, including The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the Associated Press, announced they would withhold White House photography pool images.

Operational Shifts: GINN has adapted by shifting core reporting staff away from the White House briefing room to cover campaign trail dynamics and field reporting for the upcoming U.S. midterm elections.

The White House Correspondents’ Association and press freedom groups continue to call for the immediate reinstatement of credentials for all barred reporters, warning that conditioning press access on favorable coverage directly undermines public transparency.

The post GINN Joins other news outlet to boycott White house first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

India and Japan have taken another step toward strengthening their strategic and defense partnership, signing a new agreement focused on maritime security and expanding cooperation between their armed forces. The development came during talks in New Delhi between Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi on August 20.

The two countries signed a Memorandum of Arrangement covering maritime security cooperation and agreed to expand practical coordination in several areas. These include information sharing, naval exercises, logistics assistance, ship maintenance and repair, and closer operational engagement between the Indian Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

During their meeting, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. They also emphasized their shared interest in maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific at a time of growing geopolitical tensions.

Both sides voiced opposition to unilateral measures that could threaten freedom of navigation and overflight. They also rejected efforts to alter existing conditions through force or coercion, underscoring their common interest in maintaining stability and security across the region.

The new maritime arrangement will provide a framework for cooperation in Maritime Domain Awareness, search-and-rescue operations, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. India and Japan also plan to improve coordination aimed at protecting important Sea Lines of Communications through reciprocal port visits, joint exercises and exchanges involving military personnel and specialists.

Logistical cooperation will receive greater attention, including access to ports as well as maintenance and repair facilities. The countries also plan to explore collaboration on mine countermeasures and potential joint work in naval ship design and construction. Japan’s technological expertise could complement India’s manufacturing capabilities under the Make in India initiative.

Military exercises between the two countries are also set to become more sophisticated. The ministers welcomed continued cooperation through exercises such as Dharma Guardian and JAIMEX, along with the planned Veer Guardian 26 air exercise. Japanese fighter aircraft are expected to participate in an exercise in India for the first time. Both nations also intend to incorporate unmanned systems and consider exercises that can be organized at short notice.

India and Japan further agreed to expand cooperation between their Special Operations Forces and explore collaboration with India’s integrated theater commands once they are established.

Defense technology cooperation is another major component of the partnership. Singh welcomed Japan’s recent review of its framework for defense equipment and technology transfers. The two sides highlighted the shipborne UNICORN integrated communications antenna system as an important example of their growing technological relationship.

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation and Japan’s Acquisition, Technology & Logistics Agency are expected to deepen work on advanced defense technologies. A new Defence Industry Forum will also provide a platform for closer industrial engagement.

To coordinate these initiatives, both countries agreed to establish a working group covering operational, intelligence, equipment, technology and industrial cooperation. They also agreed to speed up preparations for the fourth India-Japan “2+2” Foreign and Defence Ministerial Dialogue, scheduled to take place in Tokyo later this year.

The post India, Japan Deepen Maritime Security Cooperation first appeared on Global Indian News Network.

Indian-American Congressman Ro Khanna is laying out a new economic agenda for the Democratic Party as speculation grows over potential contenders for the 2028 Presidential race. The California Democrat has not declared a campaign but says his priority is developing a national economic strategy that delivers greater benefits to working Americans.

Khanna described his approach as “economic patriotism,” arguing that the country needs to rebuild its industrial base while ensuring technological progress reaches communities that have been left behind. Speaking to NBC News, he said Democrats need a stronger economic message that connects with workers and families outside wealthy technology hubs.

Representing a district that includes parts of Silicon Valley, Khanna acknowledged the enormous concentration of technology companies and wealth in the region. However, he argued that the economic gains generated by the technology sector have not been distributed broadly enough, particularly among communities affected by decades of industrial decline.

The Congressman said Democrats had weakened their position among working-class voters by failing to adequately address the consequences of deindustrialization. He believes the party can regain support by developing a clear economic program centered on jobs, manufacturing and opportunity.

Khanna also highlighted artificial intelligence as a major part of that agenda. Rather than allowing AI to primarily increase wealth for a small group of technology executives and investors, he wants the technology to generate opportunities for communities that have struggled economically.

On the possibility of a 2028 Presidential campaign, Khanna declined to make a formal announcement. When asked how his approach would differ from progressive Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, he praised her abilities and said the movement would have multiple potential leaders.

Khanna also reaffirmed several progressive positions, including support for Medicare for All, a billionaire tax and an end to foreign wars. He called universal healthcare a top priority and said the proposal should receive a vote in the House.

Another proposal from Khanna concerns the rapid expansion of data centers needed to support AI. He has called for a “data center bill of rights” that would give local communities greater influence over where such facilities are constructed, particularly when residential neighborhoods or farmland are involved.

While supporting expanded data center infrastructure, Khanna said regulation is necessary to address potential effects on communities and electricity costs.

The post Ro Khanna Pushes New Economic Vision for Democrats first appeared on Global Indian News Network.
